ELIAS POV:

I was worried; my Vixen was sick, terribly sick. I knew it; everyone knew it, but she wouldn’t admit it. After Lani, she got worse; she always looked so weak and pale that she passed out a few times. I didn’t know how to help her; she was a demon, not a werewolf, so I didn’t know how to help her if she didn’t tell me.

I was in my office, trying to do pact business. But my thoughts kept going to Mila and her health. What the hell was wrong with her, and how could I help? It made me feel worthless. What kind of alpha, a king, can’t even care for his mate? What kind of a mate does that make me? I ran my fingers through my hair in frustration, then the phone rang.

I looked at it, but I hesitated to answer it for some reason. I felt a dark, cold shiver run over me the longer the phone rang. Finally, I picked up the phone from the receiver and answered it.
