Chapter 22

Wesley's POV

"Whatever. Sure, you would say that" I said in a doubtful tone." "Since you want Wesley that bad, you can have him"

I stormed out of the house without waiting for her response. I felt heavy in my heart at what I had witnessed.

"Stupid you" I kept on muttering to myself. This was part of the reason why I avoided relationships in general. Ever since my painful breakup with my first boyfriend, Tristan. I had altogether removed love from the picture whenever I was involved with someone. But like a dog, I had gone back to my vomit and was hurt again. It was all my fault for trusting him.

"Suzy, are you alright"

I looked up to see Marcus peering at me curiously. I had been so immersed in my thoughts that I hadn't noticed him on the road.

"I'm alright" I said absentmindedly, holding back a sniffle. I didn't want to see or talk to anyone now because i might start crying.

"No, you aren't. Walk with me" He said, holding out his hand.

I was surprised at his friendly gesture. He had never been this nice to me. I hesitated before I took his hand. The shadows lengthened as we walked on. I look around for observers but it is late and the streets are deserted.

"So what's going on. You look bad. Like you're about to cry" He said

"Wesley is fucking Macy" I said, letting it all out in one breath.

He doesn't react to my words in any way. He doesn't even look surprised.

"You knew all along" I said, turning to stare at him.

"Just a suspicion. Didn't know for sure, nothing more" He said after a while." It doesn't matter anyway. He doesn't love her"

"If he cared about my feelings, he wouldn't do it" I pointed out to him.

"I thought you wanted to go out of here.When did you develop feelings for him? " He asked, shaking his head at me.

"Umm… , I don't know" I said, not knowing what to say.

He chuckled for a while and I punched his shoulder.

"Ouch, that hurts. You pack quite a punch now. Seems my lessons are paying off"

"Showoff" I said, joining him in his mirth. Just like that, the atmosphere eased to a calm one. He had that easygoing air about him that brought reassurance.

"How's your married life yourself. Haven't seen your mate, Bella ever since we met that day" I asked him.

"She's out of town now. You'll see her soon" He said offhandedly. I can see from his expression that he doesn't want to talk about it. There is a lot he's not saying but I don't push the issue.

"Where are we going? " I asked when we took a detour off the normal path into an unexplored area of the woods.

"To train. There's a new training regimen I want to show you"

"Don't you think it's late now, lets make it tomorrow morning" I said looking around as the hairs on my body rise.

I had learnt to trust my gut instinct right from when I was young. It had saved me from encountering many scrapes. Right now, it was signaling danger.

"There is nothing to be scared of out here. You're safe with me. If you still feel uncomfortable, you could go back. I'll be ahead" He said and walks into the thicket of bushes.

Against my better judgment, I followed him. My eyes quickly adjust to the darkness, it picks the various small animals around down to the small insects flying by. My wolf whines inside me, excited at what she sees as adventure. I turn up my nose as I push aside leaves across my path.

"Wait up! " I yelled to Marcus as I see his silhouette some metres away from me.

I don't receive any response from him. He doesn't even look back. I heaved a sigh when I stumbled into some clearing and I see him standing there, folding his hands.

"Took you long enough" He said sharply.

I glanced around as I heard light footfalls in the darkness around. I hear them before I see them, they come out from behind the trees. I turned back and stayed behind Marcus. They are 3 in number, they all wear black with a hood so I don't see their face. It gives them a mysterious air and have it's effect on me. Fear.

Two of them seized my hands and I struggle limply in their grip. I turned my head to see how Marcus was faring and was shocked that he was talking to the third guy. To my greatest surprise, they all bow down to him after a while.

"Marcus, i don't understand. What's going on here" I said, looking at him in confusion.

"You still don't get it. Do you. Let me put it simply for you. You're becoming quite a nuisance to us and we want you out of the way" He said, his voice changing to a stern one. To say I'm shocked at his betrayal is an understatement. I've been betrayed by three people in a single day.

"Who are you people and why am I a threat to you" I said, twisting to look at all of them.

"Not you, what you present to the public. Eve. She was onto us before she died"

"You mean before she was killed" I accused him, spitting in his face. One of the guys slapped me and Marcus held up a hand for him to stop and he wiped the spittle from his face.

"Yes it later became necessary to kill her" He said, without feeling any remorse. I realized now how much dangerous Marcus was compared to Wesley. He viewed people as expandable pawns that he could sacrifice at any time.

"Why all this. So you also tried to kill me at the waterfall and later, Wesley at the party" I asked as various pieces of the puzzle came together in my head.

He grounded his teeth in frustration.

"A flimsy mistake on their part. They didn't do a clean job"

"Whats the purpose of all this, what do you hope to gain" I said, not understanding his actions.

He walks up to me and the wolves hold me tighter. Probably to stop me from hitting him.

"I thought it would be clear by now. I want to be the Alpha of the pack"
