The fear never left me. It clung to my skin, wrapped around my throat and sat heavy in my chest. I told myself I was strong, that I had survived worse, but the truth was, I was exhausted.

Every night, I laid awake listening to Dorian’s steady breathing. I imagined them finding us, breaking down the door, dragging us back into the nightmare we had barely escaped. I imagined what they’d do to us.

After a while I couldn’t live like this anymore. I knew what I had to do.

I waited until Dorian was asleep. He always slept light, but exhaustion had finally caught up to him. It was the only chance I’d get.

I moved carefully, easing out from under the blanket, barely breathing as I pulled on my coat. My heart pounded so hard I was sure it would wake him. My boots were by the door. I slipped them on, then hesitated. My fingers hovered over the doorknob.

If I left now, there was no turning back.

I stepped out into the night.

The cold bit at my skin as I pulled my coat tighter, shoving my hands into my pockets to hide the tremble. The streets were mostly empty and my footsteps echoed louder than I would have liked.

I moved quickly, keeping my head down, watching for anyone following me. It wasn’t paranoia. We were being watched. Always.

But tonight, I wasn’t running.

I was hunting.

I reached the alley behind the old café, the one where we had met Viktor the night before. The scent of damp concrete and cigarette smoke lingered in the air. My pulse pounded as I stepped into the shadows, my breath fogging in the cold.

I didn’t have to wait long.

Viktor emerged from the darkness like a ghost, his face drawn and wary. His eyes flicked behind me, scanning for Dorian.

“This is a bad idea,” he muttered.

I lifted my chin. “Dorian doesn’t know I’m here.”

Viktor exhaled sharply, rubbing a hand over his face. “Then you should turn around and go home before he wakes up and finds you gone.”

“I can’t,” I said firmly. “I need answers, Viktor. And I need them now.”

His jaw tensed. “I already told you what I know.”

“No.” I took a step closer, refusing to let him evade me. “You told us just enough to scare us into running. But I’m done running.”

His lips pressed into a thin line. “You think you want the truth, but you don’t.”

“Try me.”

He sighed, his breath misting in the cold. He looked tired, as if the weight of too many secrets was finally crushing him.

“Why now?” he asked. “Why come to me alone?”

I swallowed hard. “Because if I don’t, we’ll never be free. And because I know you want out too.”

His gaze snapped to mine, sharp and assessing. I knew I had hit a nerve.

“Help me,” I pressed. “Help me end this.”

Viktor let out a low curse. He ran a hand through his hair, then glanced around the alley again before sighing in resignation.

“This will get you killed,” he warned.

“I’ll take my chances.”

He studied me for a long moment, then finally nodded. “Alright. But if we do this, we do it my way.”

I nodded, my pulse hammering. “Fine.”

“Then follow me.”

Viktor led me through the back streets, taking a path so confusing that I soon lost track of where we were. I didn’t ask questions. I just kept up.

Eventually, we stopped in front of an unmarked door in a deserted industrial block. He knocked twice, waited, then knocked again—three short raps. A beat passed, then the door creaked open.

A woman stood on the other side. She was tall, her dark hair pulled back into a tight ponytail, a cigarette dangling from her lips. Her eyes flicked over me before settling on Viktor.

“You shouldn’t be here,” she said flatly.

“Neither should you,” he shot back. “But here we are.”

She exhaled smoke, then stepped aside. “Five minutes.”

I followed Viktor inside. The air was thick with the scent of oil and old paper. The walls were lined with filing cabinets, stacks of documents spilling onto tables. The woman shut the door behind us, locking it with a click.

“What is this place?” I asked.

“Information,” Viktor said. He moved to a cabinet, rifling through a drawer. “Everything they don’t want you to know.”

I stepped closer, scanning the scattered files. Some of the names were familiar. Some sent chills down my spine.

And then I saw it.

My name.

My fingers trembled as I reached for the folder.

Inside were pages of notes, medical reports, surveillance logs. My stomach twisted as I read the dates, realizing they had been watching me long before I had even known I was a target.

Dorian’s name was there too. But what sent ice through my veins was the final page.

A termination order.

“Jesus,” I whispered.

I turned to him. “Who are they?”

He hesitated. Then, finally: “A division of powerful industries. Off the books. Funded by people with enough power to keep it buried.”

I gripped the folder tighter. “And what do they want from us?”

His expression darkened. “If you ask me, I think it's a personal beef with you both but then again what do I know.”

I felt sick.

“They won’t stop,” Viktor said. “Not until they have you. Or until you’re dead.”

A sharp knock at the door made us both freeze.

The woman tensed, putting a hand on the gun at her hip. “You need to go,” she said. “Now.”

Viktor shoved a USB drive into my hand. “Everything I have is on there.”

I nodded, stuffing it into my pocket. “Thank you.”

He hesitated, then gripped my arm. “Be careful, Anna.”

The urgency in his voice sent a fresh wave of fear through me. I pulled away, following the woman to the back exit.

The Noble's representative Neron hurried back through the tunnel, his boots splashing lightly in the puddles of water that had collected on the dirty ground. The gong's echoes still rang in his ears, urging him to pick up his pace. His journey to the tunnel had been fruitless—he couldn't find a way in and there was no sign of Serah either. He was just left with the unsettling feeling of being watched and he hoped that he hadn’t missed any important thing happening at the entrance. As he came out of the tunnel and made his way back to the entrance, he was relieved to see the mass of Adventurers still gathered outside. They had organized themselves into two queues as they prepared to file into the villa. It was a rowdy spectacle though as the Adventurers didn't take kindly to the guards trying to organize them and there were ripples of murmurs spreading across the crowd. He thought he spotted Legris and his team ahead of him and he ducked his head out of sight quickly out of reflex.

Nico's PovWith a simple glance at the vehicles that had just surrounded mine, I could tell they belonged to our gang, and I was almost certain that this encounter wouldn't end well for either of us. Luckily my car had tinted glasses so they wouldn't know she was inside, that's if she kept quiet like I said.I tucked my pistol into my back pocket and stepped out of my car the same time my boss, Dante “The Serpent” Moretti stepped down from his.His weathered skin contrasted sharply with his silver hair and he wore a tailored black suit, which fitted him snugly. As usual , his gold signet ring on his knotted fingers glittered in the dark as he tapped his hand rhythmically against his ivory cane. The men with him respectively stepped down from their cars too and spread out over the area and I knew it wasn't a friendly meetup judging from their faces. I was the Underboss and these were men I led but in the low light, they refused to meet my eyes and I knew that I was in a lot of trouble

Anna’s POV“You need to be checked, Anna. We don’t know—”“No,” I cut him off, shaking my head. “We don’t know who we can trust.”Dorian clenched his jaw no doubt frustrated by my stubbornness but I wasn't going to back down.We were arguing once more about going to the hospital. I knew that he was right and I ought to but the facility had been relentless in hunting us down. We had no way of knowing who was still looking and who might recognize me. A simple doctor’s visit could be the mistake that led them straight to us.Instead, I focused on listening to my body, trusting what little instinct I had. The nausea came and went, and a strange sort of awareness settled in my bones. It wasn’t just me anymore.Dorian was torn. I saw it in the way his hands hovered near me, as if he wanted to shield me from everything but didn’t know how. He tightened security around us, changing our routines. No more walking the same routes, no more visits to the same markets or shops. He made sure the apa

Anna's POV The highway stretched endlessly before us so much that I wondered if it would end. The sound of the engine was the only noise we heard as we crossed another nameless border under stolen identities. Dorian kept his hands tight on the wheel, his jaw clenched. There were so many things I wanted to talk to him about but I was content for the moment with watching the road signs blur past, my fingers tapping anxiously against my thigh.Neither of us spoke because we didn’t need to. We both understood what was happening. Our old lives and everything as we had known it were gone. The facility, the experiments, Reinhardt. Everything we had run from was behind us. But the thought of them was hard to let go off.I closed my eyes, but the moment I did, flashes of the lab burned behind my lids. I remembered being trapped on the cold metal table. The scalpel in my hands and the guard’s blood seeping between my fingers.I jolted upright, gasping and saw Dorian hovering above me. "Nigh

[The Next Day]“Good morning, Esteemed Otherworlders. It’s wonderful to see each of you in good health."At that moment, Rey and his classmates stood in the open fields of their training ground. All twenty-eight of them were facing Grandmaster Conrad, who had Brutus and Lucielle to his right and left respectively.Conrad had a calm smile on his face as his long hair swayed gently in the wind.As usual, he was adorned in expensive jewelry and elegant clothing. No one would doubt that this man was royalty."I appreciate your patience and understanding during these trying times," Conrad continued, his voice carrying across the field. "You've faced numerous restrictions, and I am truly grateful for your cooperation."Truthfully, if it hadn’t been for Adonis calming the students down, there would have been a lot more resistance to the actions of the Royal Council. After Adam’s demise, it was clear that there had been a change in the power balance. The desperation of the United Human Allian

The Tournament (Part 3)The entire colosseum was filled with inexplicable silence and anticipation as everyone's eyes were transfixed on the two fighters on the stage. On one end was the champion on a winning streak, the one everyone thought would be the obvious winner of the entire challenge. On the other end, though, was a bizarre sight that seemed to have no place on the stage meant for warriors. Donning a disheveled, nearly oversized jacket, and shorts, the... boy... couldn't be said to be an ideal opponent to the tall man who stood a distance from him. This lad, Theo, had just said something absolutely insulting and condescending that caused everyone in the room to gasp. The weak-looming kid, having a defiant expression plastered on his face, had just called the Tall Serpent... weak!“What did you just say, brat?”Sure, it sounded like the immature prattling of a child who knew nothing, but warriors weren't known for their nice and understanding personalities.Even though Zeke

Sophia's POV Before I could react, hands grabbed me from behind, yanking me backward. I thrashed around but they were too strong. A sharp sting burst across my skull as someone struck me, my vision blurring with pain."Dorian—" I barely managed before they forced me down.I caught a glimpse of him fighting, moving like a blur—until a taser’s electric crackle filled the air. His body convulsed, muscles locking up as he collapsed.“Dorian!”A thick bag was shoved over my head, muffling my scream. Then—darkness. When I came to, my head throbbed like I’d been hit by a freight train. My body was heavy, sluggish. I tried to move, but resistance met me—straps. Thick, unyielding. My wrists, my ankles, even my torso were pinned to a cold metal table.Panic surged through me. My breath came in ragged gasps as my mind raced. Where was I? Where was Dorian?Footsteps. Slow, deliberate.A shadow passed over me, the dim overhead light shifting. Then, a voice—smooth, practiced, unsettling.“Anna.”
