As soon as we got to the venue, one of my security rushed forward to open my door, but before he even touched the handle, Kenneth was already there.

He moved around the car with effortless confidence, ignoring the staff completely as he opened my door himself.

Like I was royalty.

He extended his hand, I hesitated for half a second, then placed mine in his letting him help me out of the car.

He did so with care I’d never experienced before, one hand slipping to my waist to steady me even though I didn’t need steadying. Then he adjusted the strap of my gown, straightening it.

Every touch was a performance, I knew that. I wish my skin and pulse knew that too. His hand slid back into mine.

The engagement was held in one of the most top rated ball rooms in the city. No one had noticed we had arrived yet.

We made our way into the hall and it looked like Shawn was re-proposing just for the crowd as he was one knee and Kate was beaming, her fingers stretched out to accept the ring.

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   At The Tip Of My Tongue

"Ken—" I whispered, using the short form of his name in my panic Before he could reach me, the sound of footsteps approached. A man—a tech investor I’d met a few times—rounded the corner. Kenneth pulled his hand back instantly, his expression shifting to a mask of polite boredom."I'll go get us some drinks, Feisty," he said, giving me one last, lingering look before walking past the investor. The man, a shark named Marcus, smiled at me. "Raina! I heard the news. You and the mystery man are official? It’s a shame. I always thought you were holding out for someone... more established."I was barely listening. My skin was still buzzing from Kenneth’s touch "I know you never really date," Marcus continued, stepping closer than was necessary. "But now that you're 'open for business,' maybe you should give someone else a try? Someone who knows how to handle a woman of your... stature. I'm pretty sure I could do a lot better than that bodyguard-type you're with."Open for business? I fel

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   Don't Run

"Running away, Feisty?"Kenneth’s voice sounded closer than I expected. I hastened my footsteps, desperately trying to get away from him while my brain was clouded with desire. “Remember, no escaping.” he called after me as I let myself take a turn into a dimly lit corridor. I knew what I was doing taking a turn at that corridor and I didn’t care. Kenneth caught up with me, pushing me back, until my back hit the cold wall with a soft thud. His hands held my wrists to the wall. “Was that too much for you?” his hot breath landed on my lips “What was that? I’ve heard better.” My pride still finding a way out, even though I was an aroused messHe smiled. “Let’s say I can’t tell from your rock-solid nipples threatening to tear your fine silk.” his eyes lowered to my boobs and stayed there before he dragged his gaze to my face. “I’ll pretend it’s just the cold and play long. If it didn't affect you, then why’d you leave?”"I needed air," I managed to say, though it sounded like a confe

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   Even Public Places Weren't Safe

Had it started? That couldn’t have been my punishment out there, could it?I smoothed my dress, forcing my composure back into place as people approached me to congratulate, compliment or request for photos. We said nothing to each other as we sat right in front of the runway. The runway lights dimmed. The first model stepped out, her lace catching the light the way I’d imagined months ago at three in the morning. The cut was perfect. The fall was flawless. It was exactly how I had envisioned it months ago. And yet, my attention kept drifting. This was supposed to be my moment.I forced myself to focus on the runway, on the applause, on the validation I’d chased for years. On the fact that this room existed because of me.Kenneth leaned in beside me, his hand settling on the exposed curve of my back. I swallowed and followed the pressure, angling toward him without thinking.“You designed all of this?” he asked quietly.I nodded. “Every piece.”“I thought you only designed AI and pr

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   If This Were Real

“Yes. She is in fact still in love with her ex.” My heart dropped to my rectum. Fuck. For half a second, the world froze. The murmurs blurred into a low distinct roar like I’d be shoved underwater without warning. I didn’t need a stock alert to know what this sentence could do to my life. I could already see the headlines writing themselves. With the gasps that came from the reporters, I knew that more questions were right at the corner. My chest tightened. I looked up at Kenneth, still cradled in his arms, my fingers digging into his lapel like it was the only thing keeping upright. Why would he do this to me? There were a lot of other ways he could have punished me!I tried to wiggle my way out of his arms, my mind clouded with absolute fury. I needed space. I needed air. I needed to fix this before it spiraled. Kenneth didn’t let me go. He held me in place, his grip dead strong. He didn't just hold me, he carried me like i was made of the finest silk and the most fragile g

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   No Rules Day

The day had come. Forty-eight hours without rules. Forty-eight hours without the control that I had been so used to, the control I had lived by for three years. I splashed water on my face again and looked in the mirror again. I didn’t come this far just to come this far. If there was still even the slimmest chance possible that I’d want something with a man, it’d be with a responsible man who I didn't just pick up in a bar or a club. And considering I could count the men who broke me and shaped me into the personality i carry today with two fingers, I knew I couldn’t slip and lose my guard around someone whose three names i didn’t know, someone who clearly looked like he broke hearts for a living even though he was breathtakingly sexy and extremely hard to resi….“Thinking about your punishment?” I jerked, my fingers immediately folding into a fist and moving with full force toward the source of the sound. “Kenneth?!!” I screamed “Woah. Chill out, feisty.” He chuckled as he c

  • An Assassin For The Billionairess   Forty-Eight Hours

You excited? Those words had no right making my heart jump. Was it curiosity? Anticipation? Fear?Whatever it was, I refused to name it.I scoffed lightly, lifting my chin to meet his eyes. “I’ve never been excited by anything coming out of a man’s mouth.”His lips curved, like I had said something that pleased him “Since when did you not count me as a man?” his eyebrows shot up in fake offence. “When have I ever gotten excited over anything you said?” “You just don’t like admitting it when one gets under your skin.”I stepped closer, refusing to give him the satisfaction of cowering. “Men don’t get under my skin. They get in the way. Especially men like you."“Mm.” His gaze dropped briefly, then returned to my eyes. “Men like me?” I opened my mouth to retort. He beat me to it.“For forty-eight hours,” he said calmly, “none of your rules apply.”The words landed heavier than I expected.I stilled. “Excuse me?”“You heard me.” His voice was even and controlled. “No calling me out.
