MasukMavis locked herself in one of the cubicles in the washroom, holding her chest with both hands. She still could feel how hard her heart was thumping as if it wanted to jump out of her chest at that very moment. It was not like she was scared that she angered Grayson, but it was her body belatedly reacting after showing such a brave front.
As she recalled the words she said, a sense of guilt slowly shrouded her. Holding her belly, she let out a sigh.
"Your mother is selfish, isn't she?" she muttered, talking to her unborn child. "She just does not know when to let go of your father."
At that moment, her marriage of five years came flashing back. It was loveless. Empty. Fragile. What was worse than that was the fact that no matter how hard she tried, nothing had changed. She suppressed a sob. She shut her eyes tight and took several deep breaths to hold back her tears.
She wanted to be brave, not just for her sake, but for her baby as well.
"It
Mavis froze upon hearing those words from Maximillian. Her mind went under a short circuit, unable to come up with a plausible story or even a lie to get away from the situation. Run.That word echoed in her thoughts, but her body refused to cooperate. Not when Maximillian’s piercing gaze was so cold enough to freeze her in place. Not when she knew that look in his eyes—if she even said the wrong word, she’d be dead.“I…” Her breath hitched. “I… Uh…”Maximillian stood from his seat and with only a few strides, he was now right behind Mavis. He leaned down with his hand holding her jaw.“One wrong answer from you means serious trouble to that little kid called Kyler. Silence means death to the woman named Karylle. So choose your words carefully.” His grip tightened. “Who the fuck are you?”Tears pricked Mavis’s eyes. There was no way out already in that situation now that Karylle and Kyler were involved. She could feel her heart beating loud against her chest. Her breathing was shallo
Dr. Charlie drove Hestia to her first house so they could avoid any risk of being eavesdropped once he revealed what he found out during his business trip to Andville. A smirk was drawn at his lips as Hestia poured some wine for the two of them. “If by any chance, will you let Grayson get back with Mavis?” he asked out of curiosity.“No.” Hestia’s reply was fast and firm. “Even if he grovels for days or cry blood, I will never forgive him and let him be with my sister.”The doctor took a quick whiff of his wine before taking a sip.“The final decision still lies to your sister, right?”Hestia decided not to comment on that one and simply occupied the seat across from Charlie.“So what did you want to tell me?” she asked instead.“My trip to Andville was supposed to be just pure business and a quick trip to see Karylle and Kyler. Getting hold of this information is a surprise gift even for me.” Charlie went through his phone before sliding it towards Hestia. “Look at those photos and
Upon her arrival at Sephis Central Airport, Hestia immediately spotted Dr. Charlie because of his ridiculous hair color—glaring blond.“Ew…” She immediately commented. “What kind of abomination is that?”“I got too wasted during my two-day break and made crazy decisions. Now let’s stop talking about my hair and get into business.”Charlie grabbed Hestia’s luggage and led the way to his car.“You are too sensitive to the cold so why suddenly go to a winter trip?” he asked, driving away from the airport.“It is a so-called stupid tradition of the Charter family. It was so cold and even snowing too hard but the two motherfucker lovebirds wanted to go fishing in a freaking frozen lake. I decided I did not want to participate only to get lost and stranded.”Charlie snorted. “And what? Grayson came to the rescue?”“Yeah.”Charlie stepped on the brakes too early and suddenly despite the car ahead of him was a few feet away. “You’re joking,” he said.Hestia shook her head.“He even took car
Grayson returned to Hestia’s ward after an hour and was no longer surprised that she was ready to leave already. “You have not yet fully recovered but you insist on getting discharged. If something happens to you later on, you are responsible for it,” Grayson said as if to scare her so she would change her mind about leaving so early.“Thank you for your concern, but I have to return to Sephis as soon as possible,” Hestia replied before walking out of her ward.Grayson immediately followed, grabbing the bag she was holding.“Did something urgent happen?” he questioned.“At work, yes.”He let out a sigh before opening the car door for her. Once Hestia was settled on the front seat, he got on his seat and started the engine. On their way back to the cabin, neither of them spoke for almost half of the trip.“Where were you before coming back to Sephis?” Grayson suddenly asked out of nowhere. His gaze was focused on the road, but he turned in Hestia’s direction for a quick second.“Does
Hestia was immediately brought to the hospital. Grayson went with her after convincing Venice to stay in the vacation house for her own safety. He couldn’t help but become more worried in each minute that Hestia spent in the emergency room. He did not even bother changing first and just followed her in the hospital just to make sure she was okay.A little while later, a doctor finally stepped out. Grayson immediately approached him.“How is she?” he asked.“Thankfully, she is in a stable condition now. We’ll administer some medicine for her fever and run a few more tests just to be sure she’s fine.” The doctor paused. “It seems like she is more sensitive to the cold than a normal person so look after her more.”Those last words raised an eyebrow. Grayson never knew that. Had he been so neglectful that even after being with her, he had no idea that his ex-wife was sensitive to the cold? That thought ran in his mind, guilt weighing heavier. Hestia got transferred to a VIP ward, where
Hestia woke up before 12 PM the next day, finding herself all alone in the tent. She had been fully clothed and even her once wet jacket was now on her. Her fever did not get any better, hence, every part of her body ached that even moving felt too tiring already. “Grayson?” Her voice grew hoarse. No one replied to her call so she groaned, pulling herself as much as she could just to sit up. The burning wood in the desktop firepit had turned to ashes and it seemed to have gone cold.“Grayson!” she yelled louder than the first time.Still no reply. The first thing that crossed her mind was she got abandoned. Maybe Grayson found her as nothing but a burden so he got up and tried to find his way back without her. Or maybe he got more worried about Venice so he just took off without saying anything. As much as she wanted not to make a big deal out of it, her discomfort and fever just stirred her emotions. Tears welled up in her eyes as she rushed to get out of the tent even though the
