Jina and I were sitting in the office, looking at each other, thinking about our choices.

“We should not bother him with it,” Jina said.

“You cannot hide this forever from him. Imagine if he finds out from somewhere else,” I said.

Footsteps interrupted our conversation, and Jina straightened herself on the sofa as I leaned on the table.

Kevin walked in. He looked at both of us.

“I don't like this,” he frowned.

“Sit,” I said, and without moving his gaze from us, he sat on the chair opposite the sofa.

I cleared my throat, but it was Jina who started. “You need to be prepared for this.” Jina pulled out her phone and clicked the link. Simply placing it on the center table—couldn’t we be more delicate? But it was too late.

Kevin looked down at the article, shifting his hands between his knees. Then he raised his head, looking at both of us. A slight pout appeared as he thought, then he slid the phone toward Jina.

“I know,” he nodded.

We both look

I look at Killian, and he puts the paper aside. Picking another file, he handed it to me. I sat back and opened it. It was not just my father’s file, but my grandfather’s as well, and my great-grandfather, Philip Anderson. Everything from their birth to death, or how many missions they did as a Shadow Knight was here—except my father. His details all matched with his facade, but nothing about the Shadow Knight. “Someone deliberately removed him from our records,” he said. “Who would do that, and why?” I wondered as I looked down at the papers. The file was thick. They were not just Shadow Knights—they were good at it. I come from a line of murderers. It was right here. “Why? This is yet to be seen. But who? I already have the answer.” I looked at him with a silent question. “My grandfather. He is the only one in the position to do so, and Tommen was here before me and was an active part of the organization for ten years.” “Ten year

It took half an hour of persuasion and a carefully fabricated medical excuse before the professor finally agreed to extend my assignment deadline. Thank God. That was faster than I expected—maybe because when I turned to Eva, who stood by the door dressed casually enough to blend in with the college crowd, she wore a scowl sharp enough to make any man hesitate. The moment she caught me looking, her expression shifted instantly into a pleasant smile. For once, it felt genuine. She was five feet of dainty charm, but I’d seen her flip a man twice her size in the training room. I didn’t doubt her capability for a second. That exact combination—approachable face and deadly skill—was why I chose her to be the one who stayed by my side. To anyone watching, she could pass as just another new friend. No one would suspect otherwise.I half-expected the media to make an appearance at NYU, but to my surprise, there was no one waiting outside the gates. I guess I hadn’t caught their atte

This is going to be a hassle.“Three.”“Five at the least.”“Killian, no one is going to invade NYU. I don’t need an army to protect me,” I argued.“Three aren’t nearly enough.” He shook his head, showing no signs of budging. We arrived at headquarters, and he led me to the training area—which, to my surprise, wasn’t what I imagined. Everyone here was over the age of consent and looked like they could easily blend into a college setting. Eva, whom I’d already met, was among them.I was handed their profiles—career history, previous jobs, missions completed. All of them had been shortlisted to be my ‘guard.’ Killian’s original plan involved seven people. Ridiculous. We’d been debating this for over an hour, and while he had agreed to bring it down to five, even that felt like too much.“I’ll come and go in a car. And don’t tell me the driver won’t be trained—that’s already four people involved,” I pointed out. “Eva will be the only one by my side on campus

"It was five years ago. I was offered a deal I couldn’t refuse at the time. KJM didn’t have any name—it was just me, Jina, and Kevin. I needed to trace a highly classified witness who was under protection, and Misha was in charge of it. Back then, my tech prowess was as good as it gets for someone with two years of practice and limited resources."I might’ve been trying to justify myself."Misha needed to take care of his grandmother and was also looking for Christen Meng.""I made a deal with him—he’d give me the location of the witness, and in return, I promised to help him find Meng and dismantle his organization. He lost his job, I got the money, and I offered him a place with us. He didn’t have much choice. No wonder he’s a little pissed about my sudden retirement," I explained all at once, not looking at him. "The witness died later. Misha hasn’t forgotten.""But he can’t condemn you for that," he said."He’s more bitter about losing his job—and I may or ma

I frowned. “Who?” I asked. It was Misha, sitting on the couch, tapping his foot impatiently. “Are you serious about this?” He stood up the moment he saw me, looking thoroughly agitated. “What’s wrong?” I asked. Killian came up and stood next to me. Misha looked at him for a second, then composed himself. “I understand your reason to want to take a break, but this…” He threw his head back in frustration. “Tell me you’re really not planning to leave KJM.” “I already explained everything to Jina,” I said. “M…” Misha gritted his teeth. “Maybe you should ask your guest to sit. Perhaps he’d like some refreshment,” Killian offered, one eyebrow raised, but the cold edge in his tone made it very clear: Misha needed to behave. Misha looked at him with a hard expression. I saw the wariness in his eyes, but he masked it well. “I’m not scared of you,” he said. Killian folded his arms leisurely ove

I pulled my hair into a messy bun and slipped into the black pair of sweatpants and t-shirt. They fit well for once, not too snug, not too loose—comfortably forgettable. Killian had excused himself while I was in the shower. Can you feel distant and close to someone at the same time? I stared at my expressionless face in the bathroom mirror. I waited for something to come to me—anything. A thought. An emotion. But nothing did. Knight Manor. Calling it a manor felt like an understatement. It was a palace. I used to think the Anderson Mansion was ostentatious, but compared to this? The Anderson estate looked like a quaint cottage. Nina, the head of staff from the beach house, actually worked primarily here. She was the only familiar face, though the rest of the staff kept a quiet, respectful distance. When Killian disappeared to God-knows-where, she was the one who brought me clothes and gave a brief, vague tour as we walked to the kitchen.
