Chapter 9

The soft sound of whimpering pulls me from my sleep, causing me to sit up, startled. I look over and see Gemini as she thrashes, little, her fingers twitching. Part of me thinks I should wake, but the other part, the part that wants to know her secrets since she knows mine, watches instead.

“No,” she whines, curling into a ball, “No, they can’t be gone.”

I sit up, sliding closer to her, not sure if the closeness will startle her or help her. My hand glides over her shoulder, touching the fabric of the shirt I gave her as I give her a soft, hopefully comforting pat. She seems to lean into my touch, and I’m not sure what the hell to do with that.

“No, no, no,” she whimpers, tossing and turning to face me. Gemini wiggles into my side, her fingers curling into the blanket at my waist and her cheek pressing into my stomach as she seems to flinch and groan. “What will I tell him?”
