CHAPTER 5

"I see that you like her." My dad commented on the drive back home.

"She is beautiful." I shrugged, going through my phone. I was letting Lucas know to hold down the VIP slot at the club tonight.

"Well, hopefully, this alliance brings more money to the family." My dad smiled at my mom.

I was silent for a while as I stared at my dad through the rearview mirror. As nice as my dad could be, he was very ruthless when it came to business. That was where I got my business sense from.

"But Dad, you know you can lend him the money and put your lawyers to work in case there is an issue. You could make a lot of money if the company collapses. You just have to have the right clauses." I suggested.

"Jonathan, you are acting like you still don't know anything about business. Why do I need to lend him money back and still pay my lawyers? That would be me spending unnecessarily and I hate that. With a marriage, you get to influence the heir to McGregor's wealth." My father said.

"You have always been the businessman." I praised him.

"Just like you are." My father gave me a curt nod.

By the time we got back home, I jumped down from the SUV and strode to my Lamborghini.

"You are going out?" My Mom asked.

"Yes Mom, I am and I will be back soon." I beamed at her.

My mother didn't look pleased, but I wasn't bothered. I had already gone to dinner tonight with her and my father and had agreed to get married to Anna. I wasn't going to let her ruin my life all at once.

"Bye, Mom," I said and slid into the lush seat of the Lambo.

Like a racer, I sped to the SirenHome, a secluded nightclub for men like me. The security guard at the gate screened my card before letting me in. It wasn't like the other clubs where anyone was allowed to come in and go out as they pleased. This club here catered to the needs of men like me and my entire body was twitching with anticipation.

I climbed down from my car and ordered a valet to park the car. With quick strides, I marched past the oak doors of the establishment.

Pop music greeted my ears the moment I walked past the door. Another perk of SirenHome was that whatever happened in the club always stayed in the club. Secrets were highly prioritized here.

"You are welcome, sir." A stripper smiled handing me a mask.

I returned her smile as I took in her every curve. With a satisfied grin on my face, I wore the mask and strode to the VIP area. I only had to show the guards at the door my ID and I was allowed to walk in.

The moment I passed through the security doors at the VIP area, I tore the mask away from my face.

"My own man." Lucas grinned at me as he gave me a warm hug.

I clasped hard on his shoulder and grinned at him.

"I am so sorry that I am late tonight."

"Well, the party had to wait for the man of the moment. Now that you are here, we can begin." He acknowledged.

I nodded my head and with that, the events of the night started.

With great precision, the men who were to battle took the stage and the fight began. This was my favorite pastime, one that even the media knew nothing about. I have always loved wrestling scenes and though I may not fight, I made sure to use my money to get the best experiences.

I sat in the front seat along with Lucas and we enjoyed the fight. I couldn't help but grin the moment the fighter I had placed money on won the fight.

"Oh for fucks sake!" Sanjo, a young Mexican who was learning to enjoy the billionaire life cursed beside me. He had placed money on the fighter who had lost the match.

"Hey boy, I told you there was a lot you had to learn in situations like this," I told him with an I-told-you-so grin.

"But he looked muscular. It was only natural to place my money on him." He bemoaned.

"The muscles aren't the only things you should be looking out for young man," I said to him and stood up.

As much as I may know a lot about stuff like this, I hated teaching them. One way I had managed to keep my wealth was to keep my strategies and secrets to myself.

"I think we should get going. I have a lot of activities in the morning at the office." Lucas said leading me toward the door.

"Come on men, the night is just getting started." I grinned at him.

"Maybe it is. But you know me. I love to lead by example. You taught me that." Lucas playfully jabbed me.

"Yeah, I know."

I was about to agree to leave with him when I saw the lady with the red matching lingerie. She was a stripper, but there was just something so sexy about her.

She caught my eye and the look she gave me was both inviting and sultry at the same time.

"Alright. I see that you have gotten yourself a new catch. Have fun bro." Lucas patted me on the shoulder and walked away.

I didn't turn for a second to look at my friend. Instead, I walked up to the lady who had caught my eye.

"Who do we have here? The phenomenal Jonathan Clarkson." She breathed through her red lips.

"I see you are familiar with the name?" I inquired.

"What I am familiar with are the exploits." She winked as she intentionally brushed her palm against my groin.

The single act of her sent a jolt of electricity running through my body and I knew I wasn't going to feel sane if I didn't bang this woman tonight.

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 126

ANNA'S POV Three years later, I stood in the same kitchen where Isabela's threat had first landed on my phone, watching Grace chase her younger brother across the backyard in the late afternoon sun, both of them shrieking with the particular delighted chaos only small children seem capable of producing. The kitchen looked different now, warmer somehow, crayon drawings taped haphazardly to the refrigerator, small handprints pressed permanently into a clay dish Grace had made at preschool the previous spring, the entire room reshaped, gradually and completely, into a space that belonged to a family rather than simply a house two frightened people had once tried to defend. "Slow down before someone falls," Jonathan called from the porch, though he was laughing as he said it, entirely unconvincing as an authority figure to either of our children. Theo had arrived eighteen months earlier, loud and stubborn from his very first breath, and I still found myself, some mornings, simply watc

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 125

JONATHAN'S POV Grace was teething, which meant neither of us had slept properly in nearly three days, and I found myself, at six in the morning, standing in the kitchen in yesterday's clothes, bouncing her gently against my shoulder while Anna measured coffee grounds with the particular slow precision of someone running on fumes. The kitchen still smelled faintly of last night's dinner, dishes stacked in the sink neither of us had managed to finish before exhaustion won out over tidiness, and I found myself, standing there in the grey early light, thinking how strange it was that this particular kind of ordinary chaos felt like the greatest relief imaginable after everything the past year had actually demanded of us. "Your turn to actually shower," Anna said, reaching for Grace without looking up from the coffee maker. "I've got her for the next hour. Go. You look like you haven't slept since the trial." "I haven't, really," I admitted, handing Grace over carefully, watching her i

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 124

ANNA'S POV I hadn't been back to the cemetery since the funeral, and I stood at the entrance for a long moment that Saturday morning, working up the courage to actually walk through the gate rather than turning back toward the car the way I'd nearly done twice already that week. Grace had stayed home with Jonathan that morning, and I found myself grateful for the quiet drive alone, the radio off, nothing but my own thoughts keeping me company through streets I'd deliberately avoided for the better part of a year. Jonathan had offered to come with me. I'd asked him not to, gently, explaining that this particular reckoning felt like something I needed to face alone, the way I'd finally learned to face the hardest things this year, present and honest rather than avoiding them or asking someone else to carry the weight for me. The path wound through familiar rows of headstones, quiet under the pale winter sun, and I found Lucas's grave exactly where memory told me it would be, simple

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 123

ANNA'S POV The car ride home from the gala felt nothing like the one I remembered from our wedding night, though some small, unexpected part of me thought of it anyway, the silence of that first drive, staring out the window while Jonathan sat beside me lost in his phone, both of us strangers pretending to be something else for an audience that had already gone home. I remembered every detail of that night with a clarity that still surprised me, even now. The unsteady walk down the aisle, my father's arm the only thing keeping me upright. The particular dread of standing across from a man I barely knew, reciting words that felt like a sentence rather than a promise. The strange woman who'd pulled me aside during the reception, her voice all false warmth and careful menace, the memory of her now recontextualized entirely by everything we'd learned about who she actually was and what she'd already begun setting into motion that very day. I hadn't understood, standing in that reception

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 122

JONATHAN'S POV The Hartwell Foundation held its winter gala two months after the verdict, the same event, in the same ballroom, where Isabela had first approached us in person all those months ago. I hadn't planned to attend at all this year, the memory of that night still sitting close enough to the surface to make the invitation feel more like an obligation than anything worth celebrating. I'd spent most of the week finding reasons to avoid the conversation entirely, burying myself in the last of the company's post trial cleanup, telling myself Grace was still too young for us to be out late, any excuse that let me avoid admitting how much that particular room still unsettled me. "We should go," Anna said, surprising me, as we stood in the nursery one evening, Grace finally down for the night. "Not to prove anything to anyone. Just to walk back into that room and let it be an ordinary night this time, instead of the one we're still bracing against." I considered that, understand

  • Anna and Jonathan: The Arranged Marriage    CHAPTER 121

ANNA'S POV "On the charges of stalking, conspiracy, and financial fraud," the jury foreman read, his voice steady in the absolute silence of the courtroom, "we find the defendant, Vance Whitmore, guilty on all counts." I felt the breath leave my body all at once, months of fear finally collapsing into something I could barely process, Jonathan's hand gripping mine so tightly it nearly hurt, both of us frozen in the particular disbelief of a moment too large to fully absorb in real time. The words seemed to hang in the air longer than they should have, an entire year of surveillance and manipulation and quiet terror finally condensed into a single, formal sentence, spoken aloud by a stranger who would likely never know how completely those words had just changed the shape of our lives. "On the charges of stalking and conspiracy," the foreman continued, "we find the defendant, Isabela Marchetti, guilty on all counts." The courtroom erupted into quiet, restrained reaction, reporters

I woke up with a start as the alarm clock beside me blared out its harsh sound. With an annoyed grimace, I stabbed hard on the alarm clock and silenced it."How the fuck do you still work?"
