LOGINARIA POV
“Don't flatter yourself, Vance. Nothing happened last night."
I spat the words out the moment Aria stepped into the sunlit kitchen, my voice dripping with as much icy venom as I could muster.
I stood by the marble island, clad in my usual sharp black button-down and trousers, leaning casually against the counter with a steaming mug of black coffee in my hand. On the outside, I looked completely composed, relaxed, and in control. But on the inside, my mind was a chaotic mess.
Every time I closed my eyes, I didn't see my cold, calculated plans or the image of my vintage Ducati. I saw Aria's soft dark eyes in the flash of lightning. I felt the steady, reassuring warmth of her hands wrapped around mine, guiding me out of the suffocating dark while I choked like a pathetic coward on the floor.
It made my stomach twist in knots. I hated her for seeing me like that. I hated her even more for not using it against me.
Aria froze near the doorway, her hand lingering on her backpack strap. She looked exhausted, dark circles under her eyes from the viral video tormenting her all night, but when her eyes met mine, there was no anger in them. Instead, she looked at me with a soft, quiet understanding that made my skin prickle.
"I didn't say anything, Jaxon," she said quietly, stepping toward the counter to reach for a glass.
"Good. Keep it that way," I sneered, taking a sharp sip of my scalding coffee. "The storm knocked out the power grid, the room got hot, and I had a temporary reaction. That's all it was. You didn't 'save' me, so don't go running around school boasting about it to your little friends."
Aria paused, setting her glass down on the marble surface. She looked up at me, her gaze steady. "I wouldn't do that. I know what it feels like to panic, Jaxon. I'm not going to weaponize your pain."
Her words hit me like a physical blow to the chest. Any other person at Crestwood University would have recorded my weakness, posted it online, or used it to blackmail me. But here she was, standing in a plain, oversized sweater, protecting my pride without asking for a single thing in return.
A strange, unwanted spark ignited deep inside my chest, a sudden, sharp pulse of realization that she wasn't the greedy, manipulative parasite I had convinced myself she was. She seemed genuine.
The thought terrified me. I needed to crush it immediately. I couldn't afford to feel soft toward her. I had a bet to manage, a reputation to keep, and a point to prove.
"Save the saint act for someone who actually cares," I growled, stepping past her to grab the carton of whole milk from the refrigerator. "You're still an unwanted nuisance in this house, and nothing that happened in the dark changes that."
I unscrewed the cap and reached over to hand her the milk carton so she could finish making her breakfast, determined to show her that I was completely back to normal.
"Take it," I commanded gruffly, thrusting the carton toward her.
Aria reached out her hand, her fingers lightly brushing against the side of the container as she took hold of it.
I tried to pull my arm back smoothly, but as our fingers neared each other, a sudden, violent spasm ran down my wrist.
My right hand began to shake.
It wasn't a tiny, subtle twitch. My entire hand was visibly trembling, shaking so hard that the cold white milk sloshed against the rim of the carton, making a tiny splashing sound in the quiet kitchen.
I instantly pulled my hand back, shoving it deep into the pocket of my dark trousers, my jaw locking so tightly my teeth ached. My face burned with a sudden wave of fierce, furious shame. I stared straight ahead, refusing to look at her, waiting for her to mock me, waiting for her to laugh at my weakness.
I sneaked a quick side-eye glance at her.
Aria wasn't laughing. She was staring directly at my pocketed hand, her dark eyes wide with shock and quiet realization.
In that single, quiet moment, the invisible shield I had built around myself for years shattered completely. She saw right through my rude, arrogant words. She saw right through my expensive clothes and cold insults.
She realized that the mighty, invincible Jaxon Hayes was completely broken inside, and now, she held the key to my biggest secret.

JAXON POV“What the hell was the meaning of that stunt you pulled out there today, Blake?!"I cornered Blake against the brick wall of the campus gymnasium, my hands gripping the collar of his athletic jacket so hard my knuckles turned white. The rain was pouring down around us, but I didn't care. My blood was boiling.Blake just laughed, casually pushing my hands off his jacket and smoothing down his shirt with a lazy, arrogant grin."Relax, Jax. I was just playing my part," Blake said smoothly, leaning against the wall. "To win your million-dollar bet and get that Ducati, I have to make her fall completely in love with me. And to do that, I needed to earn her absolute trust. Stepping in between you two in the library was the easiest way to make her think I'm her white knight.""I told you to break her heart, Reed, not steal my joy!" I snapped, my jaw locked tight as I glared at him. "I wanted to watch her kneel. I wanted to see her utterly humiliated on that floor for everyone to se
ARIA POV“Did she actually think a guy like Blake Reed would ever look at someone like her? What a desperate pig!"A sharp, cruel voice echoed across the crowded university hallway, shattering the last remaining pieces of my fragile confidence. The video playing on my phone screen wasn't just the clip of me on my knees in the library. Someone had maliciously edited it. Worse than that, they had warped it using obnoxious, humiliating video filters, adding giant cartoon clown tears to my face, sparkling gold coins raining down around me with every sob to mock my mother's marriage, and flashing text overlays calling me a “desperate gold-digger” and a “pathological slut trying to seduce Blake and cause a fight between two best friends.”The comments section was moving at a blinding, terrifying speed. Hundreds of students from across Crestwood University were tearing me apart piece by piece, accusing me of throwing myself at Blake just to climb social ladders."Look at her pretending she d
ARIA POV“Kneel down right now and apologize!" Jaxon's ruthless command echoed off the high ceiling of the library, sharp and cold as a blade.I stood frozen against the wooden bookshelf, my chest heaving in fast, shallow breaths. Dozens of students stood in a wide circle around us, their eyes glued to my trembling frame. Some were holding up their phones, recording, while others whispered and giggled behind their hands. The humiliation was so heavy, so thick, that it felt like an anchor pulling me straight down into the dirt.Kneel.My knees trembled violently. Tears of pure, agonizing shame spilled hot over my eyelashes, burning my cheeks. Every instinct inside me screamed at me to fight back, to throw my heavy textbooks at Jaxon's arrogant face, to scream until my lungs gave out.But then, sudden, painful memory flashes flooded my mind, shattering my courage.I could hear my mother’s harsh, shrill voice echoing in my head from years ago, cutting through my memory like glass: “You'r
Aria pov"Did... did the almighty Blake Reed just walk up to me?" I whispered under my breath, my hands trembling as I hugged my notebook tightly against my chest. My heart was doing violent backflips against my ribs. My cheeks felt like they were literally on fire, glowing a deep, unshakeable pink. I sat alone at the library table, staring at the empty chair across from me, completely unable to wipe the silly, giddy grin off my face."What on earth just happened?" I murmured to myself, leaning my hot forehead against the wooden table. "He walked up to the real me. Not the anonymous texter. Not a profile picture. He saw me sitting here, came over, and offered to tutor me!"It felt like a sweet, incredible dream. For months, I had been watching him from the top row of the ice rink, feeling completely invisible, convinced that a guy like Blake would never notice a girl like me. And now he noticed me. Oh my gosh!I took a few deep, shaky breaths, finally gathering my courage and my heavy
BLAKE POV“You've got to be kidding me," I breathed, my eyes wide as Jaxon threw back the heavy canvas sheet in the center of his private three-car garage.Sitting before us was the matte-black, custom 1969 vintage Ducati motorcycle. The polished chrome detail gleamed under the soft overhead lights, and the rich smell of leather, gasoline, and expensive polish filled the room. I had been begging Jaxon to sell me this exact bike since our freshman year, but the stubborn bastard had always refused, guarding it like a sacred family treasure.I looked from the motorcycle over to Jaxon, who was leaning casually against the hood of his sports car, sipping iced bourbon with a deadpan look on his face."I thought you were joking earlier, Jax," I said, a dry laugh escaping my throat. "You're really putting this on the line?""I never joke about something like this, Blake," Jaxon replied coldly, taking a slow sip of his drink. "Especially not with my precious bike."I stared at the sleek machin
