Kate was here, she had risked everything to come to help. I was a tornado of emotions. Guilt and horror at how far I have fallen, fear that she might still turn away from me once she knows about Seraphine. The most appalling emotion of all came through in the background, jealousy.

The fact that despite everything the demon, no I, had thrown at her she had emerged into that room like a redeeming angel. Her hair flowed and shone under the glow of the fire, her hazel eyes were clear and healthy. She wore Dex’s black opal ring upon her finger and was clearly mated and in love.

Why had she bothered with me? Why would anyone, if not to cast rightful hate and judgement.

To hear her call me sister, it left Bree reeling. Though Bree told me she forgave me and would always be by my side it was clear even my placid wolf did not expect this from Kate. She’s just so perfect, always so fucking perfect that even if I walked on water and stopped this war right now I’d still be the shit one.
