When Hunter was able to take Ava back to the house, she found he had already fixed the broken door and installed security around the house. Tucking her into bed, he sat next to her taking her hand.

“Are you sure you’re okay here?”

Giving a nod she pulled him to cuddle next to her. “As long as you’re here with me.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I already sent a text to Evaline and told her I wasn’t coming home. She never even responded, so I know damn well she is behind this. She never ignores a text or call.”

“Something else is bothering you, isn’t it?”

Taking a slow breath he thought back to the night he thought she left. “Ava, did Evaline offer you a bribe to leave town? I never mentioned it before, but I need to know.”

Looking away, tears welled in her eyes. “Yes,” she said sheepishly. “I didn’t take it, Master. I swear. I’d never betray you like that.”
