CHARLOTTE'S POV

“Why… why didn’t he tell me?” I whispered to the empty study, my voice trembling, cracking in the quiet of the morning.

I clutched the edge of my desk, knuckles white, tears spilling down my cheeks. The pictures Dylan had sent me were enough to destroy the world I thought I had built with Aiden.

Aiden… my Aiden, the man who had whispered love to me in the quiet of our nights, was kissing another woman.

Alana Rondolf. His supposedly dead ex-wife is alive and in his arms.

I fell back into my chair, my hands shaking, hot tears blurring the morning sunlight streaming through the window.

“Why now?” I murmured, voice raw. “Why did she choose now, after everything? After all we’ve built? Why didn’t she show up when we weren’t… when we weren’t in love yet? Why only now?” My chest ached with every question.

Every unanswered question felt like a stone pressing down my throat.

Elsie’s soft footsteps reached me before her voice. “Ma’am… are you okay?”

I didn’t look up. “Do I l

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THREE: When Love Turned Quiet

CHARLOTTE’S POVFour days. It’s been four endless days since Aiden left for Chicago, and 2 days since Dylan started planting doubts I can’t seem to dig out of my mind.Every time my phone buzzes now, I flinch. Not because I’m expecting Aiden to call, but because I’m scared it’ll be Dylan again. He’s already said enough to make me question everything I thought I knew.About Aiden.About his past. And then Alana.Even hearing her name out loud that night, when Dylan said it so casually, left something cold behind in me.“Aiden’s ex-wife is alive. And if he’s in Chicago, something fishy is going on.”He had said. I’d told him he was insane. But now, in the quiet of our room, I don't know what to think anymore. Because if Dylan was lying, why does Aiden’s silence feel so heavy? Why hasn't he been taking my calls or returning them? And my text messages too.Why does my gut twist every time I see his name and no new message under it?The clock on my nightstand blinked at 7:13 a.m. I was sitt

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWO: Fear Of The Unknown

AIDEN’S POVThe next morning came faster and felt heavier than most. I did not close my eyes all night. My thoughts refused to stop replaying last night, the sound of her voice, the look in her eyes, the impossible truth that Alana was alive.Alive.And I’d buried her years ago, or at least, I thought I had.I sat on the edge of the hotel bed, elbows on my knees, staring blankly at the wall. My phone buzzed on the nightstand. Charlotte’s name.I couldn’t bring myself to touch it. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to hear her voice. God, I did. I needed it. But how do you talk to the woman you love when your dead wife just walked out of a restaurant breathing and smirking? And to make it worse, I didn't even tell Charlotte that I had a wife before her?If she hears this she will hate me for life.I dragged my hand through my hair, jaw tightening. “What the hell is happening to me?” I muttered in the quiet room. The walls didn’t answer, only the low hum of the heater filled the silence.

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND ONE: The Past Knocks Twice

CHARLOTTE’S POVMorning came quietly. All through the night, my thoughts were scattered all over my mind. Why did he show up now?Why did he choose now to text meThe air in the room was still cold from the night before. I hadn’t really slept. The last thing I saw before closing my eyes was Dylan’s text, glowing against the darkness like a ghost that refused to fade.“Hello, Charlotte. It's been a long time.Miss me?”From Dylan. That one line had undone me completely. It’d been months since the night everything changed, the fight between him and Dylan at the motel room, the night Dylan came to see me in the hospital, and after that, he vanished, after Dylan's head collided with my head and I blacked out. They told me it was an accident. That Dylan fled because Aiden swore to destroy him. That my memory loss was temporary.Temporary, that word had felt like mercy and punishment at once.I touched my forehead unconsciously, right where the scar hid beneath my hairline. Sometimes when

  • Arrange Marriage to a Heartless CEO   CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED: Love that Hurts

CHARLOTTE’S POVWaking up early in the morning was never my thing. My mother usually woke me up every single day back in high school and college. I sat up in bed and checked the alarm clock on the nightstand beside it; the time was 11:25 a.m. I checked my phone, which I placed on the charger before going to bed last night.I unplugged the phone and opened it. There were no new messages nor any missed calls.Aiden hadn’t replied to any of my messages or returned my calls.I tried to tell myself he was busy. That maybe his flight was delayed, or he’d left his phone on airplane mode, but each time I unlocked the screen and saw nothing, no “I’ll call you soon,” no “I’m safe” a fresh ache formed in my chest.“Maybe he’s just… overwhelmed,” I whispered to no one. My voice cracked on the word.I got up and walked to the balcony, the air cool against my bare arms. The city looked alive, loud, but my world was stuck on mute.Aiden had left for Chicago two days ago. He had gone to look for pro

AIDEN’S POVThe drive back to the hotel felt endless.Chicago’s skyline shimmered through the windshield, a blur of white and gold, but I wasn’t really seeing it.My knuckles were white on the steering wheel because of how tightly I was holding it. Every few seconds, I caught myself gripping the wheel tighter. She’s alive. Those two words hit like a drumbeat in my head. Each time I blinked, I saw her face. Alana. The ghost I’d buried, the woman I mourned, the woman whose death I was blamed for. I had held a funeral for her.I had thrown a rose onto her coffin.I had listened to her mother scream at me that I destroyed her daughter.I had believed her.And now… she was walking around Chicago like death was an inconvenience. Like death was a jacket you wear, and once you are tired you drop it off.The traffic light turned red. I stopped, but my pulse didn’t. It took the sound of a horn from a car behind me to make me move. I pressed the accelerator hard, almost like I could outrun my
