Chapter 02

Chapter two

Maeve

I stood there frozen with shock as the car approached me. Lila and Freya were screaming at the top of their lungs for me to get out of the way, but it was like my feet were glued to the ground. My heart is beating so loud that I can hardly hear anything over it.

Am I really going to die?

If I died would mom and dad and Hazel miss me if I'm gone?

Maybe it was finally time to get away from all the pain and suffering.

I somehow came to terms with my fate as I waited for the car to run me over, but it never happened. The car came to a hard stop just few inches in front of me, the brakes screeching and the tires crying. I let out a breath I didn't know that I was holding before I fell to the ground, the shock making my knees weak.

Lila and Freya ran to me, shouting and crying as they hugged me. I still couldn't say anything because I was still in shock. They helped me up to my feet and walked me to the side walk to sit there so that I could calm down. I took deep breaths, trying my best to calm down and wrap my head around the fact that I was still alive.

I heard the car door open and slam shut, but I was too busy trying to breathe to even notice the person. Lila and Freya helped me breath, lettinge know they were there and giving instructions.

When I had finally calmed down, they both hugged me and dragged me up from the floor and handed me a bottle of water. I drank from it and gave it back to them.

I finally looked up at the stranger who had almost killed me, wondering who it was when I saw an extremely handsome guy, looking straight at me, a worried look in his eyes.

"Are you okay?" He asked me, his deep voice husky, but gentle. "I'm really sorry about that I really wasn't paying attention while I was driving. I hope I didn't hurt you."

It was like I was caught in a trance staring at this man's beauty. He was tall, had blue eyes, his facial features were very angular. He looked like a fallen angel.

"Umm… I'm fine. Thank you." I said, not being able to look away.

"Is there anything I can do for you? Like maybe take you to the hospital or compensate you?" He came closer to me.

"No, no. I'm fine you don't have to. I'll be okay."

"Are you sure? I really don't want to leave you like this." He seemed really skeptical about leaving me there.

"I'm really fine. You can be on your way." I assured him.

"Okay, I'll go now." He said, walking backwards, before turning to his car and when he reached the door, he turned back again.

"I'll get going now. Please take care of her." He said to Lila and Freya.

"We will." They waved to him as he got back into his car and drove away. I watched the car till it didsappeared in the distance.

"Woah. I've never seen someone as handsome as him." Lila said while Freya shut my mouth that I didn't even know was open.

"Yo, you almost died and that's all you can think about." Freya said to me.

"Wow, well I should appreciate beauty when I see it and….I think I should get going now, I've already wasted a lot of time." I said, leaving my friends again.

"See you, and be careful." Freya said with a stern voice.

"I will, don't worry."

I really don't know who that guy was because I had never seen him before. I hope one day I would get to see his handsome face again.

It was finally the morning of Hazel's wedding, and the pack house was bustling with people moving things around and setting things up. I was happy for Hazel though. She would get to marry a rich alpha who would take care of her for the rest of her life. As I thought of that, I pitied myself even more because no guy in our pack had ever looked at me that way before. None of them even wanted to talk to me.

I was standing in the living room wearing a random dress that was in my closet because I hadn't been gotten a new dress, when my mother rushed downstairs and walked towards me.

"Have you seen Hazel?" She asked me as she grabbed my arm and pulled me upset with her.

I frowned, confused as to what was going on. "No I have not. I haven't seen her since I went to bed yesterday."

She pulled me into Hazel's room where my father was waiting and let go of my arm. He had a worried look on his face and my mother had started pacing around the room.

"What is the problem? Where is Hazel?"

"Would I have asked you if I knew? Why would she choose to do this to us at a time like this. What would happen if the Blood Moon pack were to find out that their bride ran away. That could cause a war to break out." My mother was panicking.

"What? Hazel ran away? Why would she do that?" I asked shocked to my bones.

"I wouldn't know, Maeve." She replied to me sassily. "But we need to look for a solution right now."

"I have an idea, but we need to act right to make it work. If we don't, we might get found out." My father spoke for the first time. I walked a little bit close, curious as to what he had to say.

But what he said was something I had never expected would change my life.

"How about Maeve dresses up and pretends to be Hazel, so she can marry the Alpha's son?"
