Chapter one

Maeve

"You're getting married, Hazel." I heard my mom say to Hazel as I was scrubbing the floor.

I looked up to where they were seated on the couches and Hazel had an amused look on her face. My parents didn't look like they were joking one bit.

"You're kidding, right?" She asked them, laughing awkwardly.

"No, we're not." My dad spoke up. "You're getting married to the son of the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack."

My parents were the Alpha and Luna of Gold Mine pack, one of the biggest in the country. I knew the reason they were doing it were political.

"What do you mean? How could you just say that all of a sudden with out informing me prior to this?" Hazel's face was really funny to look at because she looked dumb when she was confused.

"It was a decision made for the good of both packs and for your own good."

"How is this for my own good? I really don't care about the good of the pack, so why should that be my problem." Hazel's voice got louder.

"We're only doing what's best for you, Princess." My mom referred to her with the pet name.

"How is this best for me? And why does it have to be me, why can't it be Maeve?, she's dispensable." She spat my name as she eyed me and I looked down, a sad look on my face as I faced the floor.

"Well, it can't be her, because they've specifically taken interest in you since you were born."

I had expected that. Hazel had always been treated specially because of how she was born even though we were identical twins. For our kind, if a baby is born in its human form, then it's just ordinary. But if a baby were to be born in its wolf form, it was said that that baby would possess great and special powers or a great destiny.

Hazel was born a wolf and I, a human. She had always been treated specially by my parents and everyone in the pack, while I was sidelined. I was basically treated like a slave in my own parent's house.

It had been hard for me to accept what they had been doing to me, and it still was but after a while, I came to terms with the fact that maybe I just was as ordinary as they said I was. My parents had always made it clear howich of a disappointment and a disgrace they thought I was.

What hurt me the most was that Hazel, who I had thought would be there for me as my twin sister, was the worst of them all. She made sure to make my life a living hell. She had been and was still being spoiled rotten by my parents, so the princess attitude was going no where.

"You know you're special, Princess. You're destined to do great things, and I don't think those great things are here. They're out there, where you can explore and meet new people." My mom moved to sit close to her and my heart pounded in my chest, painfully.

I can't remember the last time she sat that close to me.

"I don't care, mom. I'm never going to marry whoever you arranged me to." She said, standing up as she made to stomp upstairs to her room.

"I'm sorry, Princess but you have no choice in this. The decision has already been made. This isnt something that we can just call off without causing trouble and making unnecessary enemies. I'm sorry." He spoke softly.

"I hate you two." She said as she walked over the place I was scrubbing, almost stepping on my hand as she stomped.

"Princess." My mother called after her as sheade to follow her.

"What are you looking at?!" She regarded me with a disgusted look on her face. "Get back to your work, and you should be done by the time I get back down." She stepped in the spot I had finished cleaning before she walked up the stairs.

There are other places you could have walked through.

I sighed as I continued scrubbing. My father didn't even spare me a glance. I wondered why the Moon goddess had cursed me by bringing me into their family. I really hoped there was a way out for me.

Hazel had been pouting ever since the news of her marriage. It had been a while now and the whole pack was preparing for the wedding that was in a week. We still didn't know what Hazel's groom looked like, but I had heard that he was good looking.

I was on my way back from a workshop that Beta Nick had organized with the two friends that I had, Freya and Lila. They had been my friends since we were children and we're two of the few people that treated me civilly. They never used my weakness against me and never made me feel left out. They protected me from other people who wanted to bully me when we were in school, so I was really grateful to them.

My parents had let me out of the house with a warning to be back immediately the workshop was done if I didn't want any punishment. They never liked letting me out of the house, because they didn't like people seeing me.

We had finally reached the spot where we would part ways, and I looked both ways before walking backwards into the road, waving at them. But what happened next was not what I had expected would happen to me ever.

It all happened in a split second, Freya and Lila were smiling one second, and the next screaming at me. So I stood still at the middle of the road because I couldn't understand what they were saying. I heard honking coming from my side, so I turned and there coming towards was a car at full speed.
