Chapter 04

Chapter four

Maeve

I stared at him, shocked to see him standing in the place where the Blood Moon pack next Alpha was supposed to be standing. When he looked up to see me too, his eyes widened, also surprised. My father places my hand in his and we both walked forward to stand in front of the pack priestess.

I stared at him as the pack priestess started to speak. He seemed to be a nice person the last time we spoke, maybe he would not be as bad as I thought he would. At least even if I was forced to marry him, his handsomeness was my compensation.

The joining went on and the pack priestess had us read out our vows to each other and take the mandatory wedding drink for all married couples and we were finally married. This was where I found out that his name was Arthur.

I noticed something through out the duration of the wedding. Arthur wasn't mean and didn't ignore me, but he also never spoke to me first. He always gazed away from me even when we were taking the vows.

I was on my way to back from change my dress for the after party. The after party dress was way more comfortable and free to move in than the other. We didn't stay at the after party for long before we were told that we could go. At first, I was feeling down about having to marry a man in Hazel's place, and worse a man I didn't know but I started to think maybe it wouldn't be that bad.

I went into the house to get my things out and my mother was waiting for me in the living room.

"Maeve, you must understand the importance of this task that has been given to you. You have to do your best to act the part." As she spoke, some people walked past and she watched them before turning to me. "Follow me." She said walking up the stairs, and I followed behind her.

We got to Hazel's room and she locked the door behind me after I entered. She got one of Hazel's boxes and opened it up on the bed.

"The future of this pack rests on you now. If anybody were to find out what we have done, I cannot guarantee the safety of this pack and mostly us." She wasn't saying all thyeae things in a calm voice. It was like she was giving me others, not like, she was.

She opened Hazel's closet and began packing her clothes into the open box.

She packed two boxes of Hazel's clothes for me. I guessed she didn't want anyone to figure out that I wasn't Hazel from the state of my actual clothes. She rolled the boxes towards the door.

She gave me one last look before opening the door and calling someone to take the boxes to the car downstairs. She didn't wave at me, she didn't say goodbye, she just walked away without looking back. I sighed, really pitying myself because of how disposable I was to my family.

My boxes were put at the back of Arthur's car and we waved to everyone before getting in the car and Arthur started driving. I looked back to see everyone smiling and looking really happy even though I didn't know why they were so happy.

Silence filled the car as we drove away, the pack house no longer visible. I looked down and played with my fingers, not wanting to look at Arthur because I was nervous.

"So.. you remember me, right?" He said, and I looked up as he surprised me. I never expected him to speak to me.

"Yeah, I do. How could I forget you?" I said, my voice becoming faint at the end of the sentence.

"I was really surprised to see you standing in front of me during the wedding. I never would have expected you were the Alpha's daughter." He said and I blushed not saying anything.

"Is there a problem?" He asked as he looked at me briefly before looking back at the road.

"No,no. Well, it's just that I didn't expect you to speak to me. Through out the wedding you never spoke to me, so I thought you didn't like me or something." I said, my voice low.

"I don't hate you, Hazel." I cringed at the name that he called me. "We were both forced into this, so what I think is even if we don't like each other, we should at least treat each other civilly. Don't you think?" He waited for my response.

"Yeah, yeah. You're right. I'm actually happy you think that way. I was scared I would be getting married to a grumpy guy who was always angry at the world." I said and he let out a husky laugh.

"You're quite funny." He said and I laughed too. "Don't worry I'm not grumpy, neither am I angry at the world." He smiled.

He had a beautiful smile. Though I couldn't tell him that. That would just make me look stupid.

The drive to the Blood Moon's pack house was long, but we were able to get there before midnight. The pack house was huge. It was even bigger than ours. When he drove into the parking lot, the maids came out to take my boxes into the house. He gestured for me to go in and I was awed by the interior of the house.

Everything looked expensive. The living room had a chandelier in the center and it was really big. The house really looked like an Alpha's house.

"Let's go upstairs." He said, interrupting my thoughts.

"Oh.. okay." I said and followed behind him.

We went up the grand stairs and into a long hallway. There were many different doors, but heled me to the door at the very end. He opened the door to a big room that was already decorated and all, so I frowned.

"This is our room, where you'll be staying." He said and realization dawned on me that we would be staying in the same room.

I had thought he wouldn't want that, but I was happy that he didn't mind sharing his room. It was the first time I would be staying in such a room. My room back home was small and plain and made me sad.

"Okay, thanks." I stepped into the room.

"The bathroom's over there, so you can take your bath." He said and handed me a towel from the closet.

"Thanks." I said and collected the towel before walking into the bathroom and closing the door behind me.

I sighed as I stared at myself in the window. Arthur was treating me nicely at that moment, so I hoped it would last, and I wouldn't regret ever living.
