Chapter 07

Chapter seven

Maeve

I stared at Arthur, wondering if he was just joking or if he was being serious. He sat in front of me on the chair and I really couldn't tell what was going on in his mind.

He looked serious, but at the same time, he didn't seem sure of himself. I looked at him for a while before speaking.

"What do you mean, Arthur?" I frowned. "I really don't understand what you're saying."

Arthur sighed as he stood up from the chair, running his fingers through his hair.

"I really don't know, Hazel. This marriage was forced on me. It isn't what I want for myself. Before I got married to you, I was dating someone that I love very much, and I am not ready to leave them for any reason." I stared at him in disbelief.

"You seemed to have forgotten that this marriage was forced on me too. You're not the only one in the situation, so you don't get to choose what I do and what I don't." I said, still calm. "For crying out loud, Arthur. Are you even thinking?"

"I am, Hazel. All I know is that I don't have any to be with you. I could easily have waited till that day and just dump you, but I chose to tell you so that it won't catch you by surprise, but you're starting to see it the wrong way." He tried to explain, but I wasn't having it.

"How does that make anything better? I'm still the one who ends up divorced, I'm still the one who ends up being thrown out while you enjoy the rest of your life with another woman. I'm still the one that goes back to my parents after you've divorced me, to tell them what?" I asked him, actually waiting for an answer.

"Do you have any idea how embarrassing that will be for me and my family? I'd turn into a joke, something to laugh at in my pack, and that is definitely not what I want." I let him know. "So you can take your stupid notice and shove it up your own ass."

"Hazel, I really don't want this to turn into something that we both don't want. I do not love you, you have to understand that. I was just being nice to you because we were put in this together. This sham of a marriage is going to end immediately my father dies."

I narrowed my eyes at him as he spoke. Arthur really sounded crazy. He even looked forward to his own father's death because of a woman. Even though we had been arranged to marry, I expected that our chemistry would grow with time, and we would end up falling in love or we would at least come to a mutual understanding of some sort to treat each other fairly, but it seemed he had other things in mind.

I might also have had a lover outside, he didn't know that. He didn't know what I had to sacrifice to get married to him, and even after that, I was still willing to live in peace. For Pete's sake I had to take my sister's place after she ran away from him.

I could have easily done the same, but I chose not to. I was happy when I found out that he was the one I was going to get married to because he seemed reasonable. I even rejected Hazel's offered to take back her place because I thought I had finally found a better life.

"I never said that you were in love with me, Arthur. I'm just being a civilized human being, who cares about other people's feelings and not a person who has a whiny bitch bugging me."

I knew he had a lover even though I hadn't seen her before. I knew she might have been close to me at some point, I just didn't know who she was.

"What did you just say?" Arthur turned to me, his eyes looking extremely angry.

I could already feel his fury, but I didn't care he was being I sensitive to me, so I would do the very same.

I stood up from the bed and walked to him. "You heard what I said, Arthur. Stop trying to act like you're doing this all on your own. It's obvious that there's a bitch. You weren't like this yesterday and all of a sudden, you expect me to believe that you came up with this on your own."

"Stop calling her a bitch!!" He shouted in my face.

"I'll call her whatever the hell u want, Arthur. You have no right over me. I used to respect you before, but that's all gone now. You're just a puppet that's being played with and even you don't see it."

The rage in his eyes only got worse as he made to catch me, but I was fast enough to dodge.

"What the hell do you think you're doing? Don't even think about it or the entire pack and your father will hear about what you just told me." I smirked.

I moved away from him and strutted to the window. I was really tired of people tossing me around and making decisions for me all my life. My parents had tossed me around and did as they liked to me and I never uttered a word of protest. All the people in the pack looked down on me because of who I was and I never protested.

Now I was out of my parent's house and the pack. I wasn't going to let it continue that way. Even if he didn't know that I wasn't who I claimed it be, that didn't give him any right to treat me like a toy.

I looked outside for a while before turning back to Arthur who had sat down and was rubbing his hand on his forehead, obviously frustrated. I laughed a little before moving back to him.

"You're an alpha, Arthur, not anyone's little bitch. You should be able to make decisions for yourself. You're going to be the next alpha of this pack. Your people need a man who can make decisions for them, not a man who listens to everything a woman says." I stand up straight and go back to the bed.

"You're were really even waiting for your own father's death because you want to get married to another woman. Pathetic." I scoffed.

"I've had enough of your insults for one day, Hazel. You do not talk to me in that manner, don't forget that I am your husband and alpha." He stood up from the chair and towered over me.

"Alpha my foot." I scoffed and looked away, and just as he was about to say something else, a knock came to the door.

We both stared at each other and then at the door before Arthur moved back and I stood up from the bed to go answer the door. I opened it to see his father standing there. I winced, wondering if he had heard what we were saying.

"Hello, alpha. So nice to see you. Waht brings you here?" I asked him with a nervous smile on my face.

"Hello, Hazel. I hope you've had a fine day?" He said as he stepped into the room.

I shut the door behind him and answered.

"Yes, alpha. What brings you here?" I asked again.

"I just heard shouting while I was in the hallway, so I wanted it come and check what the problem was." He said and turned to Arthur. "The both of you are just a few months into your marriage and you're already fighting like this. What could be the problem?" He asked, looking between the two of us.

Arthur looked at me, his eyes wide. I had threatened to expose him to his father, so he was scared that I would actually do it.

"It's nothing, alpha. Arthur was just disagreeing with me in something, that's all." I said with a sweet smile on my face, Arthur clenched his jaw.

"Are you sure it's nothing serious, Hazel?" He asked, looking sternly at Arthur.

"I'm sure, alpha. It really nothing. It's just a normal couple's banter. Isn't that right, Arthur?" I asked him, raising an eyebrow at him as he stared at me.

"Yes, father. It nothing serious. Well resolve it in no time."

"Okay." Alpha nodded. "If you say so." He said and started walking out of the room.

"But no more arguing." He said as he opened the door.

"Yes, alpha." I said to him as he pulled the door shut.

I smirked at Arthur before retaking my place on the bed.

"You should thank me for not saying anything." I said and his eyes shot daggers at me and I burst out laughing.

"Go to hell, you witch. I'll make sure I get what I want, no matter what it takes." He said and walked towards the door.

He slammed it shut behind him as I smirked.

There is absolutely no way that I am going to give you what you want, Arthur.
