Chapter 08

Chapter eight

Maeve

The Silver Stone pack had been preparing for the annual celebration of the Moon goddess for a while and everyone was excited about it. The whole pack had been decorated and the place looked really beautiful.

I was excited for the ceremony because there was going to be a lot of food and drinks. Alpha Damien had made sure the ceremony would be the best of it's kind.

As for Arthur, he had been avoiding me since the argument we had the other day and I had absolutely no problem with it, as long as he didn't go through with what he said, them we would have no problems.

Through out the preparation process, I had noticed a particular woman hovering around him, so I could quickly tell that she was the girl he had been talking about.

I pretended to be nonchalant about it whenever he was around, but what he had said really hurt me. It hurt to think that I was the only one that had started falling in love.

Yeah, I finally said it. I had finally said it. I had been denying it for so long that when he said we should have a divorce, the realization dawned on me. I tried my best to avoid thinking about it.

I sighed as I sat on my bed looking sadly at the dress Alpha Damien had gotten me for the ceremony. Arthur had probably gotten one for his mistress, while I got one from my father-in-law.

I had gotten my hair and makeup done and what was left was just to put on the dress as the ceremony had almost began. I shook my head, clearing it of all thought, and decided to just be happy and enjoy the ceremony even if it was just for the night.

Input on the dress and asked one of the maids to zip it up for me and looked at myself in the mirror. The dress was really pretty and I loved it. I twirled and laughed as I felt like a princess in the dress.

There was a knock on the door and one of the maids went to answer it. It was another maid. I looked at her, curious about why she was at my door.

"I was sent to inform you that the ceremony is about to begin and your presence is required for it to start." She said and I quickly moved to wear my shoes.

"Please tell them that I'll be right down." I said as one of the maids quickly buckled my shoes.

After making sure everything was done, I went out of my room and down the stairs to the field beside the pack house where the event was being held.

Alpha Damien and Arthur were standing at the entrance. When they spotted me, Alpha Damien smiled at me, while Arthur looked away.

"You look really beautiful, Hazel." Alpha Damien said and I smiled.

"Thank you, alpha." I said and walked to Arthur's side.

"Okay, stand beside each other, they should call us in any minute now." He said and stood in front of us.

I stylishly looked at Arthur through the side of my eye to see him doing the same. I cleared my throat and quickly looked away.

He looked really handsome in his three piece suit. His hair was slicked back and his sharp jaw was out on display. If he hadn't annoyed me, I would actually have complimented him, but he didn't even compliment me, so why should I?

Alpha Damien's name was called, and he walked in. The people clapped their hands and smiled at him as he walked to take his seat on the dias.

Mine and Arthur's names were called and he bent his hand, waiting for me to link mine with his which I did and we walked in. The people clapped and smiled at is as we walked in.

Never in my life would I have imagined that I would get to live such an easy life. I had expected to rot and die in my parent's house while doing chores or washing some clothes.

But now, I was living a life where I didn't have to do anything myself. Everything I needed was provided for me and I wasn't going to give it up for anyone or anyone.

My eyes scanned the crowd before on fell on Arthur's mistress. She was glaring at me with so much contempt in her eyes. If looks could kill, I would probably have been dead, but they didn't and that was her loss. I smirked at her and her eyes widened as she saw it. She was probably surprised that I knew her, but why wouldn't I know her, when she was always around Arthur.

We got to the dias and sat in the chair set out of us beside the Alpha. I smiled as I looked around at everyone, really feeling myself.

Alpha Damien stood up to give his speech, but as he was about to start, a man walked in. The whole place went quiet as everybody watched him with shock and fear in their eyes. I looked around, confused as to what was going on.

The man was dressed in some form of sack clothes. His hair was very messy, but it covered his eyes and he had some sort of sceptre in his hand. If what I was thinking was correct, then he was the packs sage, but since I moved to the Silver Moon pack, I had never seen him. I really didn't know why everyone seemed scared of him.

Is it because of the way he's dressed?

"I have a message from the goddess." His voice boomed as he stood in the middle of the gathering. "A war is brooding in the distance!"

All the people gasped. They spoke amongst themselves, fear making its way into their midst.

"There will be a great loss of lives and property. Many will die, but only few will leave. There is no way to avoid what is coming, but the will be a savior." He said and the panic calmed down a little.

"A savior that will deliver us all from the suffering that we will all have to endure. A savior with special powers given by the Moon goddess, and only that savior can and will deliver us!!" He finished and turned his back on everybody and walked out the same way he came in.

The people started to panic and the noise was increasing as they spoke amongst themselves and rushed to crowd the dias, waithinb for want Alpha Damien was going to say. The Alpha walked up and tried to calmed them down. Arthur and I stood up too and he went to stand beside his father.

"Calm down, good people of Silver Moon pack. This was just a message from the Moon goddess and messages like this are given so that we can prepare in advance." The Alpha said, trying to calm the crowd.

"But he said that a lot of lived will be lost in the process!!" Someone shouted.

"I can assure you that nothing of that sort is going to happen. We will take measures to make sure that everyone is safe and no lives are lost in the process."

"How can you be so sure of that?!!" Another person shouted.

"I have been your Alpha for more years than I can count, do you really think that I would decide to fail you now when you need it the most?" He asked rhetorically. "I also have my trustworthy son beside me, who will soon become the Alpha after me." He said patting Arthur at his back.

That seemed to calm the people down. As they walked back to their seats and the ceremony continued. The chaos had calmed down as the ceremony started properly and everybody started mingling.

I had left my seat on the dias and moved to talk to the few people that I knew. Those that spoke to me about the issue of the sage, I just repeated what the Alpha had said, even though I didn't really understand anything that was going on.

All of a sudden, a sweet scent caught my nose and I perked up, my attention leaving the person I was talking to. I waved the person off and walked in the direction of the scent.

According to what I'd been told, that scent meant that my mate was near, and the confirmation was the way my wolf kept whining and jumping around happily.

I have finally found my mate.

But I'm married to Arthur now. What is going to happen?"

I followed the scent to a corner of the room that seems kind of quiet. There weren't many people there, so I was wondering who amongst them it could be.

The scent kept growing stronger the farther I got from the gathering. I saw twonfigure standing in the distance, but I couldn't make out who they were. They seemed to be hugging each other, and I didn't want to disturb them, but the scent seemed to be coming from their direction.

I squinted my eyes as I walked closer, and as I watched them, the man moved away from the woman, sniffing the air. I smiled as I saw that he had also caught my scent.

I ran towards them, but my steps slowed down when I saw who it was. It was Arthur, standing there with his eyes blown wide and his mistress by his side. As I reached where they were, the word left our lips at the same time.

"Mate."
