Chapter 2: Demon side

"How is she?" Lyon asked upon entering the room.

"Don't worry; it's just a regular sickness. I gave Selene medicine to lower her temperature, so make sure she gets enough rest," Gemma responds while packing her equipment.

Lyon sat on the bed and nodded.

Before leaving the room, Gemma exclaims, "Your wife goes through so much, so be good next time!"

Lyon clinched his hand and fixed his gaze on Selene, who was fast asleep. Her skin was dull and sweaty.

Lyon realized what had happened earlier and that he had made a mistake. Every time he remembered seeing her outside, he was irritated.

Lyon murmurs, "It's your fault..." as he lies down beside Selene. I'm not sure how long he'll be in that position. The only thing that matters is Selene in his arms.

Lyon then recalls the month since Selene became his wife.

(FLASHBACK)

"You can do everything except leave the house... Do you understand?" Lyon says as he walks into the large living room.

Selene remained quiet and focused on the household.

Her parents' house had always seemed spacious to her, but after seeing Lyon's... Selene couldn't say anything.

The beautiful furnishings complement the mansion's construction.

"If you have no further questions, the servant will accompany you to your room," Lyon added as he walked away.

"Wait! About your promise..." murmured Selene. Her heart is filled with uncertainty. She wants vengeance on her parents, but Selene is unsure how to proceed.

She didn't know who was torturing her, and she was perplexed by their connection to her family.

"You are now Selene Armstrong — my wife," Lyon said calmly, staring into her eyes, "so everyone who wrongs you will withstand my wrath."

"That's all I need..." Selene said, her fists clenched. Her memories of her father and mother's expressions after she committed suicide remained clear at this point.

"As I promise, as long as you stay in this house, you will get everything you want..." Lyon says as he walks straight to his office.

The housekeeper led Selene to her new room.

"Is this the main bedroom?" Selene asked, apathetic. Lyon and she agreed that she would have her own room.

Even though they are married, Selene wants some privacy because there is no love between them. She still prefers to live alone.

"No, ma'am," the servant said, pointing to the double doors on the opposite side, "the main bedroom is opposite this room."

Selene was stunned... The room was far too large for her.

It appears I married a billionaire... she remarked as she walked around the room sorting things out.

There is a tea table on the patio, and the library is quite large, with a piano in the corner near a bookshelf.

The attendant pointed to the door inside the room and said, "Ma'am, your wardrobe is there. If you require anything further, do let me know—"

"Thank you... But all I want is to rest," Selene cut the other servant off.

Selene has never been a fan of expensive items, so she didn't place much emphasis on the room's appearance.

The servant exited the room politely. Selene stepped out onto the balcony by herself and looked out.

Only now does she realize how large the yard is...

If she's not mistaken, they're probably a thousand meters away from the house. The same is true for the other side.

"Do I need to be terrified of the guy I married; who are you really, Lyon Armstrong?" Selene sighed.

Selene gets up early the next day. Despite the fact that she is not in love with her husband, she is aware of her responsibilities.

"Ma'am, master Lyon has been out since yesterday," the servant explained when Selene asked.

Selene ate alone while reading the newspaper, knowing that the man was gone.

"Uncle..." Selene mumbled, her lungs groaned with rage. Her uncle dragged her away while criticizing her for asking for help. Her parents, too, became thieves and committed suicide.

After that, Selene's phone rang.

Selene responds quickly when she sees Lyon's name. "Did you do this?" she asked hastily.

"Hmm, yes... As I promised, everyone who hurts you will pay..." Lyon gasps.

"How did you do that so quickly?" Selene asked him on the other line.

Lyon, on the other hand, chuckles, "Fast? I haven't done anything yet."

"Did I get married to a demon?" Selene commented, gripping the phone tightly, living abroad and unaware of what is going on in the city.

Lyon snickers as he responds, "You will find out soon..."

(END OF FLASHBACK)

----------

"Ugh..."

Lyon's flashback to the past was cut short by Selene's growl.

"You need to strengthen your body. You're too weak, so once you're healed, someone will train you," Lyon says as soon as Selene opens her eyes.

Despite her feeling sick, Selene forced herself to rest against the headboard of the bed after hearing Lyon's distant voice.

"How could you—"

"It's your fault! I told you not to leave the yard, but you didn't listen! The next time you disobey me, things like this will happen!" Lyon exclaimed as she stood up. It reflected the tenacity of his will in his eyes. Lyon knows he's wrong, but he'll never admit it; Selene needs to know where she fits in.

“I can't forgive you, Lyon Armstrong!" Selene exclaimed as tears rolled down her face.

"You can hate me all you want, but you can't deny the fact that I gave you a new life! So, I can easily take it away from you!" Lyon retorted with a smirk.

"Leave! Get out!" yelled Selene angrily. She snatched the side table's base and threw it at Lyon.

Her heart was broken, but her mighty husband was a jerk to her. Instead of apologizing, he used harsh words.

Lyon must have known what she was thinking because he did not persist. He quietly exited the room and made his way to the counter.

"Damn it!" Lyon exclaimed, pouring a glass of Scotch and drowning himself in alcohol.
