It had been an exhausting day. Matilda's head throbbed from the constant demands of her arrogant boss, whose voice seemed to echo in her mind: "Bring me tea. Arrange the files. You forgot the meeting notes!"

Sighing, she grabbed her phone. "Whoa, whoa, relax," Ivan's voice chimed cheerfully from the other end. "What happened? You sound frazzled."

"It's Easton," she groaned, rubbing her temples. "He's insufferable today. I swear, I'm Cinderella and he's every evil step-relative rolled into one-boss, master, tormentor..." she mimicked his clipped tone, exaggerating his dark, commanding voice. "Miss Huston, bring me the files, now."

Ivan laughed. "You sound exactly like him!"

"I know, right?" she said, half-smiling despite herself. "It's driving me mad!"

A little voice piped up from the other side of the line. "Daddy, Daddy, I want to talk to Aunt Matilda!"

"Aww, Azalea! How's my little bunny?" she cooed, her tone softening.

"I miss you, Auntie," the child murmured. "Mommy says you'll be back soon, but I miss you anyway."

"Don't be sad, darling. What do you want for Christmas? I'll make it happen."

"I want a teddy bear and chocolates!" Azalea chirped happily.

"Anything for my little muffin," Matilda said, smiling. She handed the phone back to Ivan, who chuckled on the other end.

"Not spoiling her as much as her father used to, eh?" he teased.

"Hey!" she shot back, laughing softly.

Her brief respite ended when a call from an unknown number lit up her screen.

"Ivan, I'll call you back. Another call," she said, before answering.

"Hello," a deep, clipped voice commanded.

"Hello... who is this?" she asked hesitantly.

"Prepare the agreement papers for the brand tonight. I expect them on my desk tomorrow," the voice ordered before hanging up.

Matilda froze. Where did he get my number? Agreement papers... tonight? Her heart raced. "What am I, some kind of machine?" she muttered, exasperated.

Five hours later, caffeine coursing through her veins, the papers were complete. Exhausted, she finally collapsed into bed, hoping for a few hours of rest.

---

The next morning, she entered the lift, bracing herself for the day ahead. She couldn't afford to be late; Easton's temper was legendary.

Stepping out onto the twenty-ninth floor, she knocked gently on room seven. No answer. With Natalie's key in hand, she opened the door - only to stop dead in her tracks.

The supermodel Jane, sprawled provocatively across the desk, was entangled with Easton. Matilda's cheeks flushed scarlet. Easton's gaze shifted, expression turning stone. Jane, caught mid-scold, froze.

"How dare you enter the office without knocking?" Jane spat venomously.

Easton's voice, low and commanding, cut through the tension. "Leave."

Matilda and Jane exchanged confused glances. Leave? Who?

As Matilda started to take a cautious step back, Easton's eyes darkened. "Not you. You, leave," he said, pointing at Jane.

Jane's jaw dropped. "Me? You're sending me out, darling?" she sneered, only to retreat in disbelief, leaving the room tense and silent.

Matilda, still trembling, instinctively exhaled. She had been spared - but the weight of Easton's dominance pressed down on her, and her meekness surfaced. She dared not meet his gaze.

"Do you want to stand there all day?" he snapped, voice sharp and unyielding.

She hurried to her desk, placing the agreement papers carefully in front of him. "Mr. Easton... the agreement is ready," she murmured, exhausted and wary.

"Drink some coffee," he said, voice clipped. She obeyed silently, noting the commanding tone that left no room for discussion.

As she returned, she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. His expression remained unreadable, his presence suffocating yet magnetic. Terrifying... and brilliant, she thought, noting how quickly he had scanned through the hundred-page document in mere minutes.

"Not bad," he murmured, tone cold. Matilda's chest tightened; the praise was minimal but heavy with implication.

---

Later, waiting for her Uber outside, a faint mewling caught her attention. She turned to see a small, injured cat, trembling and in pain. Compassion surged through her, and she scooped it up.

"Oh, you poor thing," she whispered, patting its soft fur. "I'll nurse you, don't worry." She carefully wrapped the tiny leg with a handkerchief, soothing it until the Uber arrived.

Easton, leaving the building himself, noticed her from his car. She cradled the cat, oblivious to him. A smirk tugged at his lips, dark and unreadable.

**********

Matilda's morning had barely begun when Natalie appeared at her desk, a stack of files in her arms. "Matilda, these need to go to Mr. Nathan immediately," she said, her tone brisk and commanding. "Room 7, twenty-ninth floor. Make sure they are in perfect order. Do not dawdle."

"Yes, Miss Natalie," Matilda replied, bowing her head slightly. She took the files, feeling the weight of both the papers and the responsibility. Her heart sank-these tasks always seemed small at first, but she knew from experience they often spiraled into hours of endless work, leaving her little room to breathe.

Carrying the heavy pile, she made her way toward the lift, silently rehearsing the politeness required for Nathan. She had barely reached the door of room 7 when she paused, noticing the tense atmosphere around his office. Her stomach tightened. Please let this be a normal day... please, she thought, gripping the files closer.

As she knocked lightly and prepared to hand over the documents, Nathan's gaze swept over her, sharp and calculating. The moment he realised she was there alone, the air in the room shifted. He leaned back, smirk playing on his lips, and the uneasy tension began to coil around her like a noose.

Before she could react, he started his usual intimidation, creeping closer, his words laced with menace. Matilda's mind raced-she needed to complete her task and leave, but her instincts screamed that today, as always, Nathan would push boundaries.

The man at the desk, in his forties, glanced up at her, eyes scanning her from head to toe. Discomfort churned in her stomach. Nathan was the kind of man who seemed to command attention simply by existing in a room. He was tall, with broad shoulders and a presence that pressed down on everyone nearby, as though the air itself bent around him. His dark hair was slicked back, almost too perfectly, and there was a cold precision to the way he moved - every step, every gesture, deliberate and calculated.

His eyes were the most disturbing feature: black and unyielding, like shards of onyx, sharp enough to cut through pretense and straight to your fear. There was a predatory gleam in them, the kind that made every instinct in a woman's body scream to flee. His lips were thin, curved into a permanent, smug smirk that promised nothing good and hinted at everything he shouldn't want.

Nathan carried an energy that was palpably wrong - dark, negative, suffocating. He smelled faintly of expensive cologne, but there was a metallic undertone to it, like iron, that made the back of Matilda's neck prickle. He had the air of someone who believed the world existed for his amusement, that every woman's discomfort was merely entertainment.

He was the kind of man who could charm, but only to manipulate. Every gesture, every word, seemed coated in danger. He thrived on control, intimidation, and fear, and his intentions were as transparent as ice yet as cold as the deepest winter.

Every girl who crossed his path felt the same tightening in her chest, the same unshakable warning in her bones: Nathan was trouble incarnate, a living nightmare, and no one should ever be alone in his presence.

He rose from his chair with deliberate, precise movements. Each step echoed against the polished floor, a rhythm that made her flinch.

"Do you enjoy working here?" His voice was low, smooth, yet edged with something unnervingly sharp. Every word sent a chill crawling along her spine.

"Yes... yes, it's... it's good," she stammered, voice trembling, trying to steady herself.

He closed the distance between them in a few long strides. The air seemed to compress around her, oppressive and suffocating. "Are you free tonight, Miss Huston? I thought a welcome dinner might be appropriate. You may choose the place," he murmured, his tone heavy, with an undercurrent that made her stomach churn.

A flush of anger and unease coursed through her veins. She forced herself to stand taller. "Do you offer welcome dinners to every employee, or is this... just for your amusement, Mr Nathan?" she snapped, voice quivering between fear and defiance.

Her words hung in the air, sharp as knives. His hand shot out, clamping over hers with a grip that made her gasp. "Don't you dare speak to me like that, you insignificant junior," he hissed, his tone leaving no room for argument.

Matilda's heart hammered violently in her chest. She tried to pull away, but he closed in, his presence overwhelming. The heat of his body pressed against hers, and she could feel the weight of his eyes tracing her every movement. Every instinct screamed for her to escape.

With every ounce of strength, she wrenched herself free and bolted down the corridor. The polished floor rang under her hurried steps until she reached the lift. She dashed inside, desperate to put distance between them.

Her fingers hovered over the thirty-fourth-floor button, desperate for escape. But before she could press it, a large hand landed over hers, pressing down on the button she had intended.

She looked up.

Easton.

The lift doors closed, and the air between them grew suffocating. His chest brushed her back. The faint scent of his cologne invaded her senses, mingling with something darker - commanding, dangerous. He didn't speak immediately, but his gaze, dark and penetrating, pinned her in place.

She tried to step forward, creating distance, but he mirrored her movements, shadowing her with terrifying precision. The lift descended, stopping at the twenty-ninth floor. Her stomach dropped.

Why twenty-nine? Is he... taking me back to that man? Panic clawed at her chest, making her breath quick and shallow.

When the doors opened, Easton's hand settled lightly - almost deceptively gentle - on her arm, guiding her back toward room seven. Every step was heavy, suffocating. She wanted to resist, wanted to flee, but terror held her frozen. She could feel his proximity in ways that made her skin crawl, every brush of his fingers a silent assertion of control.

He guided her toward room seven. This time, his touch was softer, almost deceptively gentle, and Matilda, frozen in terror, did not resist.

Every step she took felt weighted with inevitability. Fear, awe, and a strange, reluctant fascination churned inside her. She knew she was utterly under his control, but one thing was clear: this was only the beginning.
