ASHINA’S POV

After Alpha Boris dressed my wound, a strange emotion took root in my chest—something strange yet menacingly warm.

It made me restless, my thoughts spinning in directions I didn’t want them to. I shouldn’t be feeling this way.

Not now. Not ever.

I clenched my fists as we made our way back to the camp. The battle had left me exhausted, yet my mind was plagued by one persistent thought—I was growing attached to Alpha Boris and that was dangerous.

I still had unfinished business. My parents and brother’s deaths had yet to be avenged. I had no right to indulge in emotions that could distract me from my mission.

Alpha Boris was way out of my league any way. If I could not get a Beta, why would I get an Alpha?

In any case, Rosy was waiting for me at my tent the moment I arrived. Her eyes widened as she spotted the blood-soaked cloth wrapped around my arm.

''What happened?'' she gasped, rushing over to inspect my injury.

''I’m fine,'' I said quickly, but she wasn’t having it.
