ROMAN'S POV

“I should be asking you the same thing. The Adams estate is about ten to twelve miles away from here. Why did you drive all the way from your home down here?”

Adrian's words only made the grip on my gun tighten.

Since we had left the summit at New York, I had barely seen his face.

And now, staring at him, I knew that the hatred I had in my heart for Adrian Giovanni would take a lot of time and patience to be quenched totally. It was deeply rooted, the kind of hatred that couldn't disappear overnight.

The fact that I knew and suspected that he had something to do with Nyssa's disappearance in New York but couldn't prove it only succeeded in intensifying my hatred. Staring at him,I wanted nothing more than to let a bullet rip through his flesh.

“I don't answer to you, Adrian Giovanni. I owe you no explanation.”

Adrian laughed, the throaty sound I had always hated.

“Why is he here, Clinton? To pay his condolences? From day one, I've known Roman Adams as a liar, an opp

NYSSA'S POV:Did I feel anything for a criminal and a Mafia lord who had destroyed the life of numerous youths by introducing them to drugs, getting them addicted and even making them sell it for him?The default answer was no, I wasn't supposed to feel anything for such a man. But what I felt for Roman Adams was beyond morals. It was deeply rooted, a want that was limitless, a road that was always going to continue into oblivion no matter how long you seemed to walk. “I didn't feel anything that night, Roman. Whatever I felt earlier before that was a mistake…”“A mistake? A mistake?”He slammed his hand against the wall again, barricading me in a cell where we were the only occupants. “When I kissed you now and you responded, was that a mistake? Was that a mistake?”My mouth, already dry from the fear of failing in my resolve to resist his charms, was craving his tongue, and my lips, already wet from his kisses, wanted more. It wasn't a mistake. I had never wanted any man the wa

  • Auctioned To The Highest Bidder   CHAPTER 124

NYSSA'S POV:Roman Adams was the last person I expected to enter the servants quarters and come to the room where I had been sleeping before leaving for New York City. That was why when he showed up at the door, I was barely ready. I was in my pajamas, and as soon as he entered, I stood, suddenly conscious of what I was wearing. “Good to see that you're settling in like you never left.”The fact that he had proposed such a deal and didn't show any remorse still pissed me off. The sigh of him made everything worse. “Settling in? I cleaned this room from the start and made it what it was. Before that, it was barely inhabitable. I was always going to come back to it.” “Then why did you do it, Nyssa? Why?”I looked up as soon as he spoke. His voice was almost a whisper, but underneath it was a firmness that couldn't be denied. Even without asking him what I did, I knew what he was referring to already. I looked away, the answer to his question on the tip of my tongue. After everyth

ROMAN'S POV:Immediately after dinner, I went to the kitchen, where I saw Mia supervising the cleaning of the kitchen and making sure that the rest of the leftover food was well stored. I stayed next to the door, observing her closely until she was aware that I was watching her. As soon as she saw that I was watching her, she began to panic. No matter how hard she tried to conceal it, it was there in the way she spoke, the way her voice took on a different shade of performative loudness, as if she was trying to show me that she was working. That was when I knew immediately that she was either scared of something, or she was hiding something from me. “Okay people, let's round up the cleaning and prepare the dough for tomorrow's meal…”When I touched her shoulder, she practically jumped out of her skin. “Boss…I…I had no idea you had come into the kitchen.” Her voice was barely above a whisper, and her eyes were lowered to the floor, as if she was scared to look at the obvious ques

NYSSA'S POV:“It's different now, I hope you know?”I smiled sadly at Mia. Had it ever been different? Practically every worker in the Adams household had hated me during my first few months here. And now, being back with the tag of being a traitor, it wasn't going to be any different. I had always been treated coldly, and I was used to it already. “It's always been like this, Mia. There's no difference from what it used to be a few months ago. No-one here has fully accepted me, and to be honest, I don't mind.”I placed my luggage on her bed, then patted my hair tiredly. I reeked of sweat and tiredness, the result of a meeting with men who carried guns and wanted to kill each other without even batting an eyelid. I desperately needed a warm bath. “What about my room? I'm guessing someone uses it now, huh?”Mia shook her head, smiling. “Your old room is still there, the boss didn't allow anyone to use it. He reserved it for you.” She paused before she continued, “I think he actual

ROMAN'S POV:“Get in.”I stared at Nyssa Dimitri's body as she stood in front of me, a few feet away from the car that had transported me to the Giovanni estate. I swallowed hard as I stared at her. It was the same body I had craved for days on end, that body that was always going to remain forever entrenched in my memory. It was the same body alright. It was the same body that made me avoid Charlene on most cold nights, the same body that had made me sleep on the hard sofa in my study. I hadn't seen her for about three months since the New York City incident, but now, seeing her, I knew I had never forgotten her even one bit. “I'm not sitting in the same car as you.”I laughed out loud instinctively, knowing that even though I wanted her to be so close to me badly, I knew how weak it was going to make me look if I told her immediately to sit with me. “You have no choice, Nyssa. The other car contains my men, and I'm certain you don't want to be seated amongst men who hate you an

NYSSA'S POV:“Come back to your house?”I stared from one face to another on the table, wondering at that moment, if I was the only one that had just heard his outrageous demand. The irony that I was running away from the Adams household and everything that came with it only to end up in the same house every night?“I'm sorry but I cannot agree to such a deal.”I kicked my chair backward, ready to leave the dining room when Adrian spoke, his hand touching mine. “Sit down, Nyssa. We can work this out.”“Work what out?”I glared at Roman, who was silent throughout the interaction. The smirk on his face was painful to see, the smirk of a man who knew what he was doing, the smirk of a cunny man. “There’s nothing to work out. I cannot go back to the same household that made me forget what it was like to have freedom. Going back there is simply going against everything I've believed in since I came here.”Adrian's reply was a stab to the courage I was building. “Can I speak to you for a
