MasukNYSSA'S POV:“Are you alright?”The voice of Adrian Giovanni pierced through my thoughts, and I turned from the window, trying to get rid of the thoughts that clouded my mind and barely allowed me to think properly. How could I be alright when Paul, the second in command and the right-hand man of Roman Adams had just told me he loved me?How was I supposed to be alright when I had just been told that Roman Adams had actually been searching for me, and had blamed himself severally for my disappearance? At that moment, I wasn't alright. All I thought of was my choices, and how terrible they were. I was running away from a life of crime and the streets which were filled with death and broken families, but in that same life of crime was a man who loved me, a man whom I couldn't resist, the same man who yesterday had kissed me in a manner in which no other man had done. “Since you came to the house, you've barely answered my questions. And you've been staring at that window for minute
NYSSA'S POV:I was eating in my room when the door opened. Seeing Roman Adams's face after everything that had happened the previous night made me almost groan in exhaustion. Since when did he start frequenting the servants quarters? The last time I had been in the Adams household, I knew that he rarely went near the quarters. But now, it was different. He came in and went as he pleased, something that he wouldn't have done a few months ago. I dropped my fork, glancing at the face of the man who had affected my life in ways I couldn't imagine another man could. “Paul is going to drive you to the Giovanni estate. I mean, that's where you'll be this morning, isn't it?”“Yes, thank you.”He made a move as if he wanted to leave the room, then stopped before turning to me. “And remember, after your work with Adrian, you come back here, alright?”I looked away, hurt by the fact that he was so obsessed with reminding me that he owned me and everything that concerned me. If there was an
CHARLENE'S POV:As I left the Adams estate, Roman's words refused to leave my mind, a memory that was going to be forever entrenched. I stumbled as I exited the gates, knowing that I wasn't in no condition to be leaving the estate, but I knew I had to. I just had to go far away from the house, from the laughter that was probably going on at my back. As I hailed a taxi, I was reminded of all the good times I had shared with him, the first time he had talked to me in the bar. The first time he had asked me to move in with him. All those memories, how head over heels I had fallen in love with him now seemed as though it had happened over a decade ago. Now, I could barely even remember the last time he had shown affection towards me. I was no different than any of his workers. “You've always been free to leave..”I sobbed, trying to control myself as a taxi pulled up. The driver, a man with a baseball cap, picked his teeth with a toothpick as he scrutinized my face. I dabbed at
ROMAN'S POV:“Well, I'm sorry, but that's one of the things you're not going to be able to have, Roman Adams. You're not going to have me. I am not a property, one of those assets you can easily buy. I value myself and my freedom…”I stood up from the bed, even though I knew that Charlene entering the room already made any desire in the room that she had for me disappear, even though it was temporary. “I don't care about making you my personal assistant anymore, Nyssa, that's not what I mean.”“What do you mean?”Her lower lip trembled, and as brave as she was, I could see all the effects of my kisses and my touches all over her features. No matter how hard Nyssa Dimitri tried to lie and deny it, I knew she felt something. I knew she had felt something that night, and she still felt something for me, even now. All she could do was try to compel and hide it. “When I kissed you, were you going to lie that you didn't feel anything?”Her reply was forced, her face had a frown that woul
NYSSA'S POV:Did I feel anything for a criminal and a Mafia lord who had destroyed the life of numerous youths by introducing them to drugs, getting them addicted and even making them sell it for him?The default answer was no, I wasn't supposed to feel anything for such a man. But what I felt for Roman Adams was beyond morals. It was deeply rooted, a want that was limitless, a road that was always going to continue into oblivion no matter how long you seemed to walk. “I didn't feel anything that night, Roman. Whatever I felt earlier before that was a mistake…”“A mistake? A mistake?”He slammed his hand against the wall again, barricading me in a cell where we were the only occupants. “When I kissed you now and you responded, was that a mistake? Was that a mistake?”My mouth, already dry from the fear of failing in my resolve to resist his charms, was craving his tongue, and my lips, already wet from his kisses, wanted more. It wasn't a mistake. I had never wanted any man the wa
NYSSA'S POV:Roman Adams was the last person I expected to enter the servants quarters and come to the room where I had been sleeping before leaving for New York City. That was why when he showed up at the door, I was barely ready. I was in my pajamas, and as soon as he entered, I stood, suddenly conscious of what I was wearing. “Good to see that you're settling in like you never left.”The fact that he had proposed such a deal and didn't show any remorse still pissed me off. The sigh of him made everything worse. “Settling in? I cleaned this room from the start and made it what it was. Before that, it was barely inhabitable. I was always going to come back to it.” “Then why did you do it, Nyssa? Why?”I looked up as soon as he spoke. His voice was almost a whisper, but underneath it was a firmness that couldn't be denied. Even without asking him what I did, I knew what he was referring to already. I looked away, the answer to his question on the tip of my tongue. After everyth
