Chapter eleven: what was her reply?

Nicklaus POV

With Arya out of sight my dark and terrifying demeanor returned but this time it intensified at the very thought of what awaits my prey.

Not letting even a second slide, immediately my call ended I dashed for the car but for some odd reason I looked over my shoulder only to reveal a now empty space, although I found her restless and childish behavior quite annoying, I couldn’t deny that it was lively and added a little color to my usually mundane and humdrum drives. “Snap out of it Nick” I murmured at the realization of my sudden drifting.

“Yes boss?” My Chauffeur inquired. “It’s nothing” I dryly replied as I met his surprised gaze through the rear mirror “Uhm hmm” I cleared my throat in an attempt to alleviate the awkward atmosphere knowing he was perplexed at my change in attitude, it was of course very unlikely to find me talking to myself even I can’t fathom my words or actions lately especially my little display back at the dinning.

Why on earth did I kiss her knowing it’s almost impossible to get serious with her but I selfishly did and it now seems I’m toying with her. I groaned inwardly at the thought while sweeping it to the back of my mind as I’ve got urgent matters to attend to.

“We’re here”. My chauffeur announced as I beheld my warehouse base through the tinted windows.

Klaus came to view the minute I touched down briefing me on the details regarding the occurring events, one of which was a casualty as two of our guards got shot but luckily it wasn’t a danger area.

Everyone else is safe but same can’t be said for the captive I’m currently heading towards. “How dare he lay a finger on my men!”. I growled with tenacity.

“Tonight I'll show that scum what awaits those that steal a lion’s prey”.

Soon we reached a dark room preferably called the red room and I could hear his screams and wailing from the continuous whip lashes and constant torture which is just a tip of the iceberg of some activities that are very much capable of cracking the tightest of mouths. It sure does live up to its name.

Turning to face Klaus I inquired “What’s the status?”. But when Klaus replied “Nothing yet”. My aura exploded as I stepped into the room and hand gestured my men to cease action bringing him to his knees from the hanging swing.

Lowering myself to his level I grabbed his hair flipping his head to meet my gaze unavoidably letting the mixed smell of blood and saliva fill my nostrils.

“There’re different types of trash, which type are you?” I mockingly asked as I tightened my grip.

“Who sent you?”. I inquired getting dead serious and digging deep into his now swollen eyes.

“Go to hell”. He cursed coughing out some blood but I already anticipated such a reply so I let go stretching out to my full height which hovered over him in an ever so intimidating way and my gaze not leaving him for a second. With a snap of my fingers a chair is quickly set for me before my prey.

“Mr Huzari, isn’t that your name? I asked as I got comfortable in my seat crossing my leg over the other and flipping through his file.

“You’re not the type to act carelessly without a backing, your records says it all. And I’ll also like to believe you’re not stupid enough to blindly steal from Harrington clan, or are you?”.

I asked resting my elbows on my knees and entangling my fingers against my chin which was the perfect posture to flex my devilish smirk making him rush to reply “yes-” but to his greatness misery I interrupted his response with a question that instantly made his blood run cold. “Your daughter, she’s your only child I believe. Is that what Juliet’s got on you?” His eyes reveal the truth but his lips wouldn’t bulge.

In other to make him follow suit Juliet connived a scheme insomuch that she threatened him using his daughter. Interesting. Well then, two can play that game.

“You won’t reply?” I growled exasperatedly at the trembling figure before me stuck in a facially visible dilemma. “All right then since you’ve decided to throw away your only chance of survival we’ll do what we always do to thieves. Exterminate their entire family”. I announced with a resolute gaze and watched how his conflicted expression came to a complete halt.

I rise up with a dominating aura and sauntered for the door but stopped in my tracks as he called out to me. “Please...please I beg of you leave my daughter out of this. Kill just me, I’m willing to die as a payment for my crimes, please”.

He begged bawling his eyes out and crawling soaked in sweat and debris.

With both hands in my pocket I turned facing him with my usual cold and still eyes which held no sympathy. “Sorry to break it to you but your life is too worthless a price to pay for the damages you’ve caused”.

I declared allowing realization slowly creep in as he puts a halt to his wailings but his next move caught me completely off guard. And in that split seconds my eyes flashed as I yelled “stop him!” But it was too late as he had already bit down on the pill before my men got to him, which inevitably led to an immediate convulsion and he was gone in seconds.

“F*ck!”. I yelled in frustration kicking the metal chair aside with uncontrollably rage as I sprinted for the figure sprawling on the floor lifeless but it was no use he was gone. My eyes were red and burning with intense rage as I took long strides out letting the boys clean up the mess.

“What a shame we couldn’t get the evidence against Juliet” I spat irritably as I locked Klaus gaze in the opened field area and I read his troubled expression which undoubtedly were the same with mine.

“Klaus, you know what this means, don’t you?” I asked and the look on his face told me he understood perfectly but couldn’t bring himself to voice it out. “Let me do the honors then. We’ve got a mole in our midst”.

I announced while I roughly loosened my neck tie. “Yes, it seems so boss. Someone must’ve given him the pills during the interrogation”. Klaus affirmed and I couldn’t help but snigger at Juliet’s unscrupulous actions. All her previous attempts to get to me has been proven futile but this time she really stung a nerve.

Swarmed in my thoughts, I receive a text from the shadow guards assigned to keep Arya safe. I opened the message and my countenance immediately reflects a grimace and terrifying image.

“Miss Arya is with Lucious at the hospital and he’s asking her to be his daughter’s nanny” I read the text out loud to be certain my eyes weren’t deceiving me. There was also a photo attached to the text and I can see Arya smiling blissful but for some odd reason it made my blood boil as I balled a fist and tightly clenched my jaw tasting the sour savory of my blood.

This woman was really something. She knows just when to get on my nerves, I thought as I swiped over to give her a call but to my bewilderment she didn’t pick up.

She must really have a death wish for ignoring me, she’s presumably having such a blast that she couldn’t hear her phone ring or was she purposely ignoring my calls? I could feel my veins pop by the mere thought of that.

A look of disappointment washed over my face after multiple failed trials as I resolved to calling her shadow guard instead. “Hello boss” the voice over the phone answered and with a stern tone I muttered through gritted teeth.

“What was her reply to Lucious?”.
