LOGINFreya’s POV
Rowan's face turned an ugly shade of red. Beside him, Selene's perfectly composed expression cracked, her brows knitting together in barely concealed panic.
Rowan stared at the invitation in my hand, his eyes going from disbelief to something that looked almost like recognition. Then his expression twisted into something ugly.
"To get back at me, you really are unscrupulous," he said, stepping forward.
I stared at him in disbelief.
Had he always been like this?
"Do you have delusions?" I scoffed.
"An omega like you couldn't possibly get an invitation," Rowan countered, his voice rising. "You must have stolen it just to approach me. To make me jealous!”
Goodness! He sounded so stupid!
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. This was the same man who'd saved me when I was fifteen. I'd been attacked by rogues during an outdoor expedition, and when I woke up, Rowan had been sitting beside me. He'd stayed with me, comforted me, protected me until my pack found me. That's why I'd fallen for him. That's why I'd given him three years of my life.
I never imagined the person I'd always liked could be this arrogant. This cruel.
"Have some self-respect, Freya," Rowan continued, his voice loud enough to draw more attention. "Stop pestering me. It's pathetic."
I opened my mouth to say something hurtful back to him, but Aurora suddenly appeared at my side, her face flushed with anger.
"Someone of your status isn't worthy of Freya pestering you," she said sharply. "Staying with you for even one more minute is disrespectful to herself. Now leave."
Rowan's jaw clenched, and he stepped forward. "I'm a newly crowned alpha. My Luna is the actual female alpha heiress, unlike you who claimed to be. We're more than qualified to be here."
The words female alpha heiress rippled through the crowd like electricity and reminded me of the whips I had to endure.
"A female alpha heiress? Really?"
"I've never seen one before. She's so beautiful."
"The power of that bloodline must be incredible." They whispered.
I noticed how Selene's back immediately straightened, her chin lifting as she basked in the attention. Her eyes swept over the crowd with satisfaction before landing on me and Aurora with pure contempt.
And something inside me snapped!
I couldn't tolerate her impersonating my identity again and again. I couldn’t stand watching her steal what was mine anymore while I stood there silent.
But there was nothing I could do. Couldn’t prove it, couldn’t try. The last time I did….it didn’t end well.
"Of course," I whispered, turning around and walking away to prevent things from escalating.
The ballroom went silent, and every head turned toward me as I walked away. .
"Freya! One last thing?" Rowan’s voice cut through the air, stopping me in my tracks.
"Do something about your loneliness and stop following me around." He added, loud enough for everyone to hear. .
The crowd gasped.
I don’t say a word and just disappear into an empty hallway. I stood there, taking deep breaths and waiting for everyone to forget what just happened before I could get out.
Aurora walked in after a few seconds. “Are you okay?” She asked. “Do we need to leave?” She asked further.
I shook my head, forcing a smile that I hoped looked convincing.“Leave because of Rowan and Selene? No way.” I said as I drew in a deep breath, trying to steady myself.
She didn’t look convinced so I widened the smile, keeping my voice as soft as possible. “I’m really fine. You should go enjoy the ball, I’ll just rest here for a while.” I added.
Her eyes narrowed at me, her lips pressed in a line. “Okay, I’ll catch you later.” She said before walking away.
I stayed there for a while, my thoughts circling around everyone and the way they must be seeing me now that Rowan had told them I’d claimed to be the Alpha heiress like it was something I wasn’t and had never been.
Eventually I took a deep breath and stepped out of the hallway, hoping the moment had passed and the talk had died down.
It hadn’t.
The moment I entered the ballroom, the whispers started up again with every word hitting me in the heart. “That wolfless omega actually thought anyone would believe she was the Alpha heiress?” someone murmured, loud enough for me to hear.
“She is so delusional and jealous of Alpha Rowan’s Luna. That’s definitely why she did what she did, out of jealousy.” Another whispered.
More continued as I walked and I felt the annoyance boiling within me. Something was rising, something distant and I tried so hard to reach for it quietly.
But I couldn’t just like the last time, I had no other choice but to take in all their insults.
“The pathetic little omega is out of her hiding once again.” Selene sneered as she walked towards me.
Why couldn’t she just let me be?
“Get a life.” I lashed at her.
Her face twisted into a scowl, her fists tightening at her sides. “You seem to be asking for another whipping, I’m guessing the last one wasn’t enough.” She hissed.
That was it, my last straw.
I closed my eyes as the rage engulfed me. I felt it immediately. That restless, dangerous power that had been locked away my entire life. It stirred at my call, rising up through my chest like a wave building before it crashed.
The air in the ballroom changed.
It started as pressure. Subtle at first, then growing. An invisible weight pressing down on everyone around me, heavy and ancient and undeniable.
Selene's smile froze on her face.
There was definitely something in me and frustration of being unable to show it was killing me.
A beta near the front of the crowd swayed slightly, his face paling. Another wolf's hand went to his chest, as if he was having trouble breathing under the weight of my aura.
Selene's face had gone white. Her hand clutched Rowan's arm so tightly her knuckles were bone-white.
"It’s her black—" Selene started to say.
But her voice was drowned out by the gasps spreading through the crowd as my aura continued to grow, pressing down on everyone in the ballroom like a storm about to break.
"I think she’s a witch..." someone breathed. "There’s no better explanation for this than witchcraft.”
Chapter 154Freya“Take her out of here and get her dressed!” Rowan ordered and two security men walked up to me, pulling me up from the floor. “You’ll regret this Rowan.. trust me!” I spat and yanked my arm away from the security men. I turned to look at the maid who had given me away and I didn’t know whether to feel anger or pity towards her… I was led back into a smaller room with very little lighting and only a few windows. Another group of maids were brought in and new stylists I hadn’t seen before. Selene strolled into the room, her face bright with pride as she inspected all that was being done on me. I wasn’t even given the chance to take a bath and the blood that dripped from the back of my head still trickled down my neck every now and then. Despite the excruciating pain I was going through, the hairstylist couldn’t care any less and didn’t hesitate to pull my hair up into a tight bun. I sat there, growling and wincing in pain. As the designer brought in what was supp
Chapter 153CaelanAurora and Marcus were already waiting at the border with the men Daren spoke to on our behalf. I, on the other hand, slipped into the pack estate with Daren’s help and waited for him to go get Freya. Everything was going as planned. The whole point of letting Rowan and Selene know of my arrival was to steer them away from Freya so Daren can sneak her out of the mansion without raising any alarms. As Daren left with one of the rogues from the shelter, I took out my phone to call Aurora. I watched it ring for a few seconds until it connected, “How’s it going at the border?” “Tight. Selene came by a few minutes ago but she was trying to be undercover. If I wasn’t paying attention I probably would have missed her..” she said and I hummed to myself. “That’s good. At least they’re doing as we expected. Why was she alone? Shouldn’t Rowan be there with her?” I asked again. Aurora paused for a while, like she was scouting the area and then cleared her throat. “I can’
Chapter 152FreyaI walked briskly through the corridors, hiding behind every pillar each time I spotted someone coming and my heart didn’t stop pounding in my ears. My body felt cold and I couldn’t shake off the burning feeling deep in my chest. “You can do this Freya..” I repeated under my breath as I hastened up. I didn’t realize just how enormous this mansion is until I kept circling around even though I once knew these paths like the back of my hand. Suddenly, a sharp scream tore through the entire mansion and I whipped my head around. If I’m right, that sound was coming from the room I just escaped from. “Oh hell no..” I groaned as I turned back around and ran. Now isn’t the time to check out who was screaming, so I didn’t look back, nor did I pay attention to anyone I ran past. “Lock the entire mansion down immediately!” I heard one of the security men yell and my head felt heavy. I finally found the back exit but Daren wasn’t there. That doesn’t matter… I just need to g
Chapter 151Freya Daren left after that. And got some reason, I could help but feel worried instead of relieved. I was worried not about my safety but that of his. How long has he been here? How did he even manage to stay here all this while and move around the house without getting caught. If he ever does get caught, that might be the end of his life.“Be careful Daren.” I whispered, walking back to the bed and dropping into it. The annoying creaky sound it made in response, made me want to rip my head off. I kept my eyes fixed to the ceiling wondering what my next line of action should be. But each time I tried to form a thought, I was back to square one. I hated that all I could do was sit and wait for Daren to come get me. Hours drifted away and my stomach grumbled with hunger because I had refused to eat. But then just as I turned to lie on my belly, there was a knock on the door and I was quickly pulled out of my thoughts as my eyes snapped towards it. Maria walked in, hold
Chapter 150FreyaRowan walked in again, his face full of smiles and a bright light reflecting in his eyes. He grabbed Selena’s waist, pulled her into his arms and pressed his lips into hers. I didn’t turn away because the sight didn’t bother me, nor did it make me feel uncomfortable. They pulled apart from each other and Selena wiped her lips with the back of her hand while Rowan cleared his throat. “You know, I was going to be lenient with you, Freya..” he started, throwing his hands in the air. “If only you just saw reason with me and accepted my proposal, all of this wouldn’t have had to occur. But now that we’re here already, I would never let you slip out of my hands again..” “And what is giving you this much confidence that I’ll remain here with you forever?” I snapped and he shrugged. “Well for starters, that wound I inflicted on you will soon start rotting away and eating at the other parts of your body. You need my antidote to stay alive and I won’t give it to you unti
Chapter 149Freya“There’s no way I can find out who this messenger is if I’m locked up in here for who knows how long…” I muttered to myself, looking around the window like it would give me the answers. The sky had grown darker and the night air seemed to want to calm my nerves but the tension in my entire body was far too strong for the mere night breeze. “I need to get the hell out of here for a start–” I folded the piece of paper into my hair where no one would ever notice it, and went into the bathroom to freshen up. I changed into the pair of sweats I found in the wardrobe and a tank top, picked up the lousy footwear Maria left for me and headed out the door. But of course, the security men outside refused to let me through. “I just need some fresh air, am I not allowed that?” I snapped impatiently, gritting my teeth in rage. “I apologize madam, but his majesty has strictly forbidden you from leaving this room without his consent.” The older man said, barely making eye con
Chapter 57Freya By the time I woke up the next morning, the headache had dulled and my body felt better, but what happened at the training grounds refused to leave me alone. For the longest time I’d been without a wolf, nothing but an omega empty inside, so how was I supposed to explain what hap
CHAPTER 5Freya’s povCaelan's eyes had gone from warm to arctic in the span of a heartbeat. He stood there dripping water onto the hardwood floor, his expression carved from ice, and I felt the temperature in the room drop."Just an accident," he repeated slowly, like he was testing the words. "I s

Chapter 3 Freya Her eyes were as cold as they’d always been and for a brief moment I let myself hope that seeing me like this, my back covered in bruises, bloodied, and completely broken might finally crack through that ice and bring a bit of warmth in her eyes that I hadn’t seen in years. But
