CHAPTER 4

Freya's POV

The stranger's dark eyes held mine, and I forgot how to breathe.

He was still gripping the wrist of the man who'd tried to touch me, but his attention was completely focused on me. The intensity of his gaze made heat crawl up my neck and spread across my cheeks.

My skin tingled where his eyes traveled, like he was touching me without laying a single finger on me.

I’d never felt this with Rowan. Never felt this pull, this magnetic draw that made every nerve ending in my body wake up and pay attention.

"Thank you," I managed to say, though my voice came out smaller than I intended.

He released the other man, who disappeared into the crowd without a backward glance. The stranger stepped closer, and I caught his scent — pine and something darker, something that made my pulse trip over itself in a way I couldn't explain. My heart hammered in my throat.

"Caelan!"

Aurora's voice broke the spell. She rushed over, her face lighting up with genuine delight. "Oh my god, I haven't seen you in forever! What are you doing here?"

The stranger, Caelan, finally looked away from me. "Aurora. It's been a while."

"This is my cousin," Aurora said to me, looping her arm through mine. "Well, distant cousin. Caelan, this is Freya. My best friend."

"Distant relative," Caelan confirmed, his voice smooth and controlled. "Just a high-ranking wolf. Nothing special."

But that didn't match what I'd felt. His aura had been powerful, commanding, far beyond what a regular high-ranking wolf should possess. I opened my mouth to question it, but he met my eyes again and something in his expression made me pause.

"I train rigorously," he said, as if reading my thoughts. "It tends to enhance certain qualities."

I understood that. I'd spent my whole life training to compensate for not being able to shift, building strength and skills that made up for what I lacked. Maybe Caelan was the same. Someone who'd pushed himself beyond normal limits.

The thought created an unexpected connection between us. Two people who didn't quite fit the mold, who'd had to work harder to prove themselves.

"You two should catch up," Aurora said, glancing at her phone. "I need to take this call. Work emergency."

She disappeared into the crowd before I could protest, leaving me alone with Caelan.

"Can I buy you a drink?" he asked.

I should have said no. Should have made some excuse and left. But my body was still humming from his proximity, and I didn't want to walk away.

"Sure," I heard myself say.

We talked for hours. Or maybe it was minutes that felt like hours. Time seemed to blur around him. He was easy to talk to once the initial intensity faded, asking questions that made me think, listening like my words actually mattered. So different from Rowan, who had always been half-focused on something else even during our most intimate conversations.

When Aurora returned, yawning and announcing she needed to get home, Caelan offered to drive us both.

His car was sleek and expensive, the kind that matched the power I'd sensed in him. Aurora climbed into the back seat, already half-asleep from the alcohol and late hour. After we dropped her off at her apartment, I moved to the passenger seat.

"You can drive now," I said, settling into the leather and gesturing ahead.

Caelan didn't move.

I turned to look at him, confused, and found him watching me with that same intense expression from the club. My heart kicked against my ribs.

He leaned closer. I froze, my breath catching as he invaded my space. This close, I could see flecks of gold in his dark eyes, could feel the heat radiating from his body. His scent surrounded me, familiar somehow, like coming home to a place I'd never been.

My pulse thundered in my ears.

Was he going to kiss me?

Did I want him to?

His hand moved to my waist and I stopped breathing entirely.

Then he pulled the seatbelt across my lap, clicking it into place with a soft sound that seemed too loud in the quiet car.

"Safety first," he murmured, his breath hot against my ear.

His hand brushed my thigh as he withdrew, and electricity shot through me. I bit my lip to keep from making a sound, but heat pooled low in my stomach, desire surging through me with an intensity that left me dizzy.

Maybe it was the alcohol. Maybe it was the emotional rollercoaster of the past two days. Maybe it was just him, this stranger who looked at me like I was something precious and dangerous all at once.

I reached up and caught his hand before he could pull away completely.

"Caelan," I whispered.

His eyes darkened. "Freya, you've been drinking. I should take you home."

"I don't want to go home."

He went very still. "What do you want?"

I should have said something smart, something safe. Instead, I leaned forward and kissed him.

For a heartbeat, he didn't move. Then he made a sound low in his throat, his hand coming up to cup the back of my neck, and he kissed me back like he'd been waiting his whole life to do it.

The kiss started gentle, almost careful, but it didn't stay that way. Heat exploded between us. His other hand gripped my waist, pulling me closer despite the console between us, and I reached for him like I was drowning and he was air.

"We should stop," he said against my mouth, but his hands tightened on me.

"We should," I agreed, and kissed him again.

Somehow we made it to his apartment. I didn't remember the drive, only the burning need to touch him and to be touched. He kept trying to slow down, to give me space to think, but I didn't want space. I wanted to forget Rowan, forget my mother's expectations, forget everything except the way Caelan looked at me like I mattered.

He was careful with me. Even in the heat of the moment, even when I urged him faster, he took his time. His hands mapped every inch of my skin like he was memorizing me. His mouth followed, pressing kisses to places Rowan had never bothered to explore.

And when we finally came together, it was nothing like it had ever been with Rowan. Rowan had always been quick, focused on his own pleasure, using my body to scratch an itch before rolling away. This was different. Caelan watched me, responding to every sound I made, every movement, adjusting until I gasped and arched beneath him.

"Look at me," he said when my eyes fluttered closed, overwhelmed by sensation.

I obeyed, meeting his gaze, and the intensity there pushed me over the edge. Pleasure crashed through me in waves I'd never experienced before, so powerful I forgot to breathe.

He followed me moments later, his control finally shattering, my name on his lips.

Afterward, he pulled me against his chest, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on my shoulder. I felt boneless, my body still humming with aftershocks.

"Stay," he murmured into my hair. "Don't go."

I knew I should have left and put distance between us before this became complicated. But I was so tired of doing what I should, and his arms felt too good around me.

So I stayed.

~

I woke slowly, my body aching in unfamiliar ways. For a moment I couldn't remember where I was. The sheets were too soft, the bed too big, the scent too masculine.

Then the memory crashed back and heat flooded my face.

Oh goddess.

What had I done?

Through the bathroom door, left slightly ajar, I could see steam rising. The shower was running. I sat up carefully, clutching the sheet to my chest, and caught sight of movement through the foggy glass.

Caelan's silhouette was visible through the steam. Broad shoulders, narrow waist, muscles moving under skin as he moved. Even blurred by condensation, he was beautiful in a way that made my mouth go dry.

Last night flooded back in vivid detail. His hands on me. His mouth. The way he'd made me feel things I'd never felt before, made me forget everything except the pleasure building between us.

My face burned hotter. I'd been the one to initiate it. I'd practically thrown myself at him, and he'd been gentleman enough to try to slow things down before I did something I couldn't take back.

Except it hadn't felt like a mistake in the moment. It had felt right in a way nothing with Rowan ever had.

The shower cut off. The glass door opened, and then Caelan stepped into view, water droplets sliding down his chest, a towel slung low around his hips.

I couldn't stop staring at the defined muscles of his abdomen, the V-cut that disappeared beneath the towel, the way water clung to his skin like it didn't want to let go either.

He looked up and caught me watching. His eyes lit up, something warm and hopeful sparking in their depths.

"You're awake," he said, his voice softer than I'd heard it before. "How do you feel?"

The tenderness in his tone made my chest ache. This was dangerous. Whatever this was between us, it couldn't happen. I had responsibilities waiting for me. A contract marriage to arrange. A pack that needed me to be strategic, not reckless.

And Caelan deserved better than being dragged into my mess. He deserved someone who could give him everything.

Chapter 67Aurora The annoying shrill of my alarm pulled me out of my slumber and I sluggishly sat up on my bed, stretching my sore arms above me as I yawned like a baby hawk. “Ugh..” I grunted as the thought of what I’d be doing today entered my head. I couldn’t believe I’d have to spend more and more time around Daniel. My head was still in the cloud when I heard the doorbell from downstairs. It’s way too early for any visitors and I just prayed silently that it wasn’t Daniel. Anyone but Daniel!I had no time to sit and wish around, so I went into the bathroom to freshen up and then headed downstairs as quickly as I could. If I can get out of this house before my father sets his eyes on me this morning then I’ll definitely escape being around Daniel. “I didn’t think you’d come this morning, seeing how my request was on such short notice.” My father’s voice echoed and I grabbed a wall. “Of course I’d show up at any time, you’re like a father to me after all.” He replied. “Horse

Chapter 66Caelan Lucian had refused to leave my house and return to wherever it was he’d come from. Having him around grated on me and ever since he’d learned that Freya didn’t know I was the Alpha King, I’d been walking on eggshells. I measured every word, avoided every opening, doing my best not to give him anything that could force him into making a threat.I’d told him I would tell Freya when the time was right, but I knew Lucian well enough to know he could sense there was more I wasn’t saying.I’d totally forgotten what contact with Freya felt like and I couldn’t get over that kiss we had, I wanted more, needed more but of course she had been avoiding talking about it. Pretending like it never happened and I hated it. I was adjusting my shirt in front of the mirror when my phone rang and I picked it up immediately. It was Daren, exactly as I’d expected. “You ready?” I asked, keeping my voice low and even. “Yes sir. I’m in the driveway,” he replied. “Alright. I’ll be do

Chapter 65Freya“And that’s not even the best part, I’ll be thrilled to tell everyone here exactly what you’re up to, lord Margolis, because judging from the kind of life you live, you have absolutely no right to speak to me about putting the council at risk!” Lord Margolis recoiled in his chair, shock etched all over his face but I was far from being done. “Oh you want to speak of dragging the council in the mud, while we’re at it, why don’t we discuss your constant visits to the brothel in the outskirts of the clan?” I asked firmly, my eyes glued to his face without an iota of fear. “That’s enough young lady!” He barked, slamming his fist into the table. His audacious voice snapped something in me and I felt a pang in my chest. For a moment all I could think of was to lunge at him and rip his eyes off of his face, but I felt a cold hand on my thigh. The hand rubbed gently and I leaned back on my chair, resting my back properly as my blood cooled off. “It seems everyone has a

Chapter 64Freya As much as I dreaded it, the day of the council meeting finally arrived. The one that would likely decide my fate and whether I’d still have a place on the council after the humiliation of taking part in the preliminary training. I dragged myself out of bed and made my way sluggishly to the bathroom, where the warmth of the water against my skin jolted me awake. But it didn’t change the knot in my stomach. I still didn’t want to go, especially knowing that once I stepped into that room, I’d be the topic everyone was waiting to discuss. There was a knock on the door as soon as I was done getting dressed. I rolled my eyes in frustration, the smell of jasmine filling my nose even before I opened it. Iris. “It’s too early please, what do you want?” I asked, pulling the door open. A small grin played at the corner of her mouth, the kind that never showed up unless she was about to say something annoying and I already knew whatever came next wouldn’t be good news.S

  • Awakening Of The Hidden Alpha Heiress   YOUR DAD IS A DICK

Chapter 63AuroraThe moment I stepped onto the front porch, I heard my father’s voice echoing through the entire mansion. But this wasn’t the usual yelling at a servant or screaming into his phone. For the first time in forever, he was actually laughing. I gritted my teeth as I inhaled sharply and pushed the front door open. I prayed silently for no one to notice me as I slipped through the hallway and headed towards the stairs. “Get ready Aurora!” My father ordered and I froze, “you’ll be leaving with Daniel in less than an hour..” I turned around and stormed into the living room, my eyes swiftly sweeping through the room like a dart. “Father, the training isn’t even until sundown, why do I have to leave now?”“I’m sure the two of you have some catching up to do, so it’s best if you get some time to yourself before the main training starts.” He said as he pulled himself up from the sofa. “I’ll be in my office..” that was his cue to walk away, leaving just Daniel and I in the li

Chapter 62AuroraI gritted my teeth as a soft chuckle tumbled out of my mouth. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead and I slowly wiped them off with the back of my hand, despite the ac in the room. “What are you doing here Daniel?” I scowled. “That’s not a really nice way to welcome your guest now, is it?” His voice echoed irritatingly. “Welcome my guest?” I scoffed, “you’re even more delusional than my father..” “You don’t seem happy to see me..” Daniel sneered, folding his arms over his chest as he tried to close the distance between us. “Don’t even get any closer to me Daniel..” I snapped and his legs paused. “What even gave you the audacity, to think in that small mind of yours, that I’ll be excited to be in the same space with you?” “Well for starters, we haven’t seen each other in a really long time and judging from how close we used to be, I just thought you’d want to catch up for old times sake at least..” His feigned innocence bore into my soul like a burning dagger a
