MIA'S POV
“I'm sorry, Mia. We have to let you go." I blinked at Mr. James, unsure if I heard correctly. "Le... let me go?" "Yes. We have no use for you anymore." My stomach dropped. "Did I do something wrong?" He sighed, leaning back casually. "Not really. We just feel we have more than enough cleaning staff." "In this huge mall?" I whispered. "Six cleaners is too many." My palms burned with sweat, tears pushing forward. This couldn't be happening. Not now. "But it's a big mall. You even need more—" "You can't tell us how to run this place," he snapped. "We decided to let one person go, and it's you." My heart squeezed painfully. "Please, Mr. James—this is the only job—" "That will be all." I froze. "Leave my office," he added coldly, eyes glued to his laptop. I stood, numb, hoping he'd change his mind, but he didn't even look up. I stepped out and shut the door behind me, tears spilling immediately. Where was I going to go now? How would I even begin job hunting again? I forced myself to the locker room, unlocked my locker, and stared at my things. My phone lay on top of my folded clothes. My only hope was one number—Axel. My finger hovered over it, trembling. "Mia?" Mary's voice made me flinch. She rushed toward me. "Why did he call you in?" I couldn't speak. A tear fell on my phone. "Mia, talk to me." "I got fired," I whispered. "Oh no. What reason did he give?" I couldn't answer. I'd worked so hard. I didn't deserve this. Mary rubbed my shoulder, but before she could say more, the door swung open. Gina, Cassie, and the rest walked in. "Oh look," Gina said loudly. "One of us is leaving today for some juicier reasons." My heart dropped. "I heard someone has been sleeping with the owner's son," Gina added proudly. Gasps filled the room. My knees weakened. Mary tensed beside me. "Funny how she thinks being pretty means she can seduce her way into a better life," Gina sneered. "What a slut." Their laughter echoed. My chest tightened so hard I could barely breathe. I grabbed my things and bolted. "Run along, slutty ass!" Gina yelled as the others cackled. I sprinted to the restroom, sobbing, gripping the sink as Gina's words replayed in my head. "Mia," Mary's voice came from the doorway. "Is it true?" I broke. "I didn't seduce him. I didn't know he was the owner's son. We met at the mall... we fell in love." She hugged me. "It's okay." "He wanted the relationship secret, but now they know, and I lost my job." "One of them must've snitched," she whispered. "But how?" "Gossips always find a way. Listen... does he love you?" I nodded. "Then call him. Tell him what happened. He can help you." I looked at Axel's number again... and dialed. ⸻ AN HOUR LATER I stood outside Axel's mansion, still calling him, still unanswered. Fear and frustration gnawed at me. I entered through the gate, walked into his house... the door was open. "Axel?" No response. But there were two used glasses on the living-room table. A red dress lay on the stairs. My stomach twisted. With shaky legs, I climbed the stairs. "Yes... yes... oh, fuck!" I stopped breathing. I moved toward the door, pushed it open—and saw him. Axel. With a brunette. On his bed. The sound left my lungs in a broken scoff. "What the—who is she?" the girl asked, staring at me. Axel's head whipped toward me. "Mia..." He jumped up, covering himself with a duvet. My tears blurred his image. "Who is she?" the girl demanded again. "She's... uh... no one. Amy, she's no one." No one. That stabbed deeper than the sight of them in bed. "Handle her and come back," Amy snapped. "Before I break her face." Axel put on his shorts and grabbed my arm. "Let's go." "Axel..." My voice cracked. He dragged me downstairs. "I told you to call me before coming." "I did. You didn't answer." He didn't respond, just paced. "Who is she to you?" I whispered. "Listen, Mia, you need to leave." "What?" "You don't show up unannounced. You're bound to see something you won't like." I stared at him, stunned. "You're cheating on me." "You weren't supposed to be here." I scoffed. "Unbelievable." He rubbed his temple. "What are you even doing here? Today isn't one of our days." "I got fired," I said quietly. "What?" "They fired me. Someone told them about us." He sighed. "Just go home. I'll talk to my mother." I stared at him, heart tearing. "Why are you like this? You said you loved me." "I told you what I told you. If you believed it, that's on you. Go." "Axel—" "Get your filthy hands off my man, blond whore," Amy snarled from the stairs. Before I could react, she shoved me. I stumbled back. "Amy!" Axel called, but she ignored him. "Get out of our house!" she barked. Axel looked at me with zero remorse. "Just go, Mia." Amy pushed me again. I hit the floor with a whimper. "Come on, Axel. I haven't orgasmed yet." He followed her upstairs without another glance. I stood shakily, sobbing as they disappeared together. Then I left the mansion, completely shattered. ⸻ HOURS LATER I sat in a crowded fast-food joint, untouched meal before me, phone buzzing nonstop. Mary was calling, but I couldn't bear to talk. I hadn't stopped crying for hours. My job was gone. My relationship destroyed. Everything falling apart at once. My phone beeped with a voice note—my mother. "Mia, where are you? I need tampons and painkillers. I don't have money. Get them for me ASAP." I exhaled shakily, grabbed my bag, and left. ⸻ AN HOUR LATER I arrived at my mother's small bungalow. Before I could knock, the door swung open and my little sister Victoria grinned at me. "Mia!" I knelt and hugged her. Her tiny arms squeezed me until I finally felt something warm inside me. She took her chocolate snack happily, and her smile managed to ease the ache in my chest. We walked inside. "Where's Mom?" I asked. "She's in—" "Victoria," a deep voice interrupted. My stepfather. George. My pulse quickened as I turned toward him.MIA I turned to him. He is looking at me with concern. "Can I stay in a different room, please?" I asked, hoping he would agree. "A different room?" I nodded. "Why? Don't you want to stay with me?" "I want a different room." I insisted. He stayed with me for a while and I held his gaze. He nodded in agreement. "It's okay. Let's go." He said, offering me his hand. I placed my hand on his and led us towards another room down the hallway. We got to it and he opened the door. It was a simple room without a walk-in closet. I walked into your room, staring at the aesthetics. It is beautiful and very comfortable. Queen-sized bed, two nightstands on both sides, two white couches, black tiled floors, and a little chandelier. "Do you like it?" I nodded, still moving my eyes around. It has black curtains too. Axel walked closer to me, taking my attention. "I am glad you like it," he said, staring at me as he took my hand. My heart raced I held his mesmerizing gaze. He stro
MIA PRESENT HOURS........ AXEL'S HOUSE........ Seated on the sofa, I looked around the familiar living room as I fiddled with the hem of my dress. I have always seen this place as a home. A future happy home after Axel and I get married. We will have our adorable kids running around the house. Adorable kids like Jay Jay. I smiled at my thoughts as I stared at my fingers while fiddling with the hem of my dress. If wishes were horses. Axel has someone else. I wonder where she is. I still find what is said outside strange. He has been looking everywhere for me? How can that be? He sounded unconcerned when I spoke to him the last time. He was all about that girl. What does he mean by..... "Hey," he called, taking my attention. He is approaching with two white mugs of coffee in his hands. He got closer and handed one mug to me. "Thank you," I said, taking the mug from him. "You are welcome," he said, taking a seat next to me. I took a sip, feeling the hot temperature hit
BIG KAI "Boss, wait," I heard Caleb call. "No," Tyrell protested, attempting to run. I shot his two legs, making him groan in pain as he fell on the floor. I walked closer to him. He turned around, panting in pain. I crouched down to him. "Come on, men. Don't do this." He begged, struggling to move his body back. I stared at him. "You can't kill me, men. I am your only true family. Shit, I am your blood. Don't do this." I pinned my gun to his injured leg. He groans louder. "Ma true family wouldn't betray me like you fucking did." I snarled as I pressed harder. "Oh fuck! Look I am sorry! I never knew he was ma son! Please! Don't do this, fuck!" I pressed harder again, making him cry in pain. "You kill me and you're the only one left in our bloodline, men. Malik gone. Now you....you want me out too?" I scoffed. "Come on, man." "I left them fucking bloodline the night the bloodline kicked my poor mother and me outta the fucking street, motherfucker." He shook his head
BIG KAI HOURS EARLIER...... IN THE LIVING ROOM..... "Don't listen to her, Papi. You know your sister. She is trying to cause trouble as always," Isadora said, making Imani chuckle. I clenched my knuckles as I processed this fucking news while staring at the floor. "The fuck you tryna gain with this fucking lie, Imani?" Tyrell asked. "I'm tryna expose your betraying asses to my beloved brother, Tyrell. Lil Kai is your son not his." Imani's words made my blood boil harder. "Fuck you, Imani," Tyrell yelled. Imani chuckled. "Like you fucked the Hispanic bitch." "You are one sorry piece of shit, Imani and I feel nothing but pity for you," Isadora said. "Give me the result," I ordered calmly, trying not to lose my fucking shit. "Papi, don't listen to...." "Give me the damn result?!" "Here it is," Imani said, placing the result in my hand. I opened it and I saw the familiar city hospital name. I scrolled down with my eyes. "Papi, this is absurd. Don't listen to her. You are Li
MIA George walked out of the house with a plant pot. I became uneasy at the sight of him. I watched as he walked towards the left balcony and placed the pot there. "Dad!" Vicky's familiar voice took my attention. She is walking out of the house with a tiny flower pot in her hand. "Vicky," I whispered, tears filling my eyes as she walked towards George. He took the pot from her and placed it on the ground. "Listen, girl, I don't have all day for this." The driver spoke up again. "Don't you want to get off or do you want to go someplace else?" I looked at the driver and then back at the house. George picked up Vicky, making her chuckle happily and he smiled at her. They both entered the house. I lowered my gaze and moved my hand away from the door. "Let's go, please," I said. "That will cost you." He said, driving away. I stared at the house with tears in my eyes as we drove past it. I can't be there either.I always forget about George. Seeing him now reminds me of a lo
MIA Slowly, I reached to push my door open. I stopped myself halfway, gulping as I braced myself again. How come my door is open? Someone....someone broke the locks. I pushed the door a bit but what I saw made my heart drop again. All my belongings were destroyed. I covered my mouth with my palms as I walked in slowly, staring at my destroyed bed, my clothes torn and on the floor. My utensils, my books, my only frame. It has Vicky's and Mom's pictures in it but it is broken. I crouched down and took out the picture from the broken glass. My heart broke as I stared at the picture while standing up straight. A tear rolled down my face as I trailed my fingers on the picture. Vicky's bright smile made me want to see her and hug her. I miss her so much. I looked around me again, taking in my destroyed place. Who could have done this? Why would they do this? All my belongings are destroyed. More tears rolled down eyes but something struck me.My heart rate increased at the th
