MIA'S POV

“I'm sorry, Mia. We have to let you go."

I blinked at Mr. James, unsure if I heard correctly. "Le... let me go?"

"Yes. We have no use for you anymore."

My stomach dropped. "Did I do something wrong?"

He sighed, leaning back casually. "Not really. We just feel we have more than enough cleaning staff."

"In this huge mall?" I whispered.

"Six cleaners is too many."

My palms burned with sweat, tears pushing forward. This couldn't be happening. Not now.

"But it's a big mall. You even need more—"

"You can't tell us how to run this place," he snapped. "We decided to let one person go, and it's you."

My heart squeezed painfully. "Please, Mr. James—this is the only job—"

"That will be all."

I froze. "Leave my office," he added coldly, eyes glued to his laptop.

I stood, numb, hoping he'd change his mind, but he didn't even look up. I stepped out and shut the door behind me, tears spilling immediately.

Where was I going to go now? How would I even begin job hunting again?

I forced myself to the locker room, unlocked my locker, and stared at my things. My phone lay on top of my folded clothes. My only hope was one number—Axel.

My finger hovered over it, trembling.

"Mia?" Mary's voice made me flinch. She rushed toward me. "Why did he call you in?"

I couldn't speak. A tear fell on my phone.

"Mia, talk to me."

"I got fired," I whispered.

"Oh no. What reason did he give?"

I couldn't answer. I'd worked so hard. I didn't deserve this.

Mary rubbed my shoulder, but before she could say more, the door swung open. Gina, Cassie, and the rest walked in.

"Oh look," Gina said loudly. "One of us is leaving today for some juicier reasons."

My heart dropped.

"I heard someone has been sleeping with the owner's son," Gina added proudly.

Gasps filled the room.

My knees weakened. Mary tensed beside me.

"Funny how she thinks being pretty means she can seduce her way into a better life," Gina sneered. "What a slut."

Their laughter echoed. My chest tightened so hard I could barely breathe.

I grabbed my things and bolted.

"Run along, slutty ass!" Gina yelled as the others cackled.

I sprinted to the restroom, sobbing, gripping the sink as Gina's words replayed in my head.

"Mia," Mary's voice came from the doorway. "Is it true?"

I broke. "I didn't seduce him. I didn't know he was the owner's son. We met at the mall... we fell in love."

She hugged me. "It's okay."

"He wanted the relationship secret, but now they know, and I lost my job."

"One of them must've snitched," she whispered.

"But how?"

"Gossips always find a way. Listen... does he love you?"

I nodded.

"Then call him. Tell him what happened. He can help you."

I looked at Axel's number again... and dialed.

AN HOUR LATER

I stood outside Axel's mansion, still calling him, still unanswered. Fear and frustration gnawed at me.

I entered through the gate, walked into his house... the door was open.

"Axel?"

No response.

But there were two used glasses on the living-room table. A red dress lay on the stairs.

My stomach twisted.

With shaky legs, I climbed the stairs.

"Yes... yes... oh, fuck!"

I stopped breathing.

I moved toward the door, pushed it open—and saw him. Axel. With a brunette. On his bed.

The sound left my lungs in a broken scoff.

"What the—who is she?" the girl asked, staring at me.

Axel's head whipped toward me. "Mia..."

He jumped up, covering himself with a duvet. My tears blurred his image.

"Who is she?" the girl demanded again.

"She's... uh... no one. Amy, she's no one."

No one.

That stabbed deeper than the sight of them in bed.

"Handle her and come back," Amy snapped. "Before I break her face."

Axel put on his shorts and grabbed my arm. "Let's go."

"Axel..." My voice cracked.

He dragged me downstairs. "I told you to call me before coming."

"I did. You didn't answer."

He didn't respond, just paced.

"Who is she to you?" I whispered.

"Listen, Mia, you need to leave."

"What?"

"You don't show up unannounced. You're bound to see something you won't like."

I stared at him, stunned. "You're cheating on me."

"You weren't supposed to be here."

I scoffed. "Unbelievable."

He rubbed his temple. "What are you even doing here? Today isn't one of our days."

"I got fired," I said quietly.

"What?"

"They fired me. Someone told them about us."

He sighed. "Just go home. I'll talk to my mother."

I stared at him, heart tearing. "Why are you like this? You said you loved me."

"I told you what I told you. If you believed it, that's on you. Go."

"Axel—"

"Get your filthy hands off my man, blond whore," Amy snarled from the stairs.

Before I could react, she shoved me. I stumbled back.

"Amy!" Axel called, but she ignored him.

"Get out of our house!" she barked.

Axel looked at me with zero remorse. "Just go, Mia."

Amy pushed me again. I hit the floor with a whimper.

"Come on, Axel. I haven't orgasmed yet."

He followed her upstairs without another glance.

I stood shakily, sobbing as they disappeared together. Then I left the mansion, completely shattered.

HOURS LATER

I sat in a crowded fast-food joint, untouched meal before me, phone buzzing nonstop. Mary was calling, but I couldn't bear to talk. I hadn't stopped crying for hours.

My job was gone.

My relationship destroyed.

Everything falling apart at once.

My phone beeped with a voice note—my mother.

"Mia, where are you? I need tampons and painkillers. I don't have money. Get them for me ASAP."

I exhaled shakily, grabbed my bag, and left.

AN HOUR LATER

I arrived at my mother's small bungalow. Before I could knock, the door swung open and my little sister Victoria grinned at me.

"Mia!"

I knelt and hugged her. Her tiny arms squeezed me until I finally felt something warm inside me.

She took her chocolate snack happily, and her smile managed to ease the ache in my chest.

We walked inside.

"Where's Mom?" I asked.

"She's in—"

"Victoria," a deep voice interrupted.

My stepfather.

George.

My pulse quickened as I turned toward him.

MIA Big Kai got out of the car, taking my attention as my heart kept pounding. Shuddering, I slowly raised my head but.... "Fuck you, Big Kai!" BANG! I flinched, ducking instantly as terror washed over me. Someone was shot. Big Kai. The silence messed with my sanity as I thought of the worst. Slowly, I rose, staring ahead. Some boys are on their knees with their hands up and Big Kai is standing in front of them but has his gun pointed down at the dead body on the ground. I swallowed as I felt relieved within. I thought he was shot. "Anyone else wanna fucking speak up?!" He yelled. I flinched. No one answered. The place is filled with cars on both sides, bodies littered on the ground, and the few men shuddered as they stared at Big Kai. A familiar man walked towards Big Kai, saying something to him that I can't hear. Big Kai looked at him as he spoke. It is the man from Bricktown. He is one of Big Kai's men. The dead men and the ones kneeling must

MIA My heart raced faster as he stared at me with his dull eyes that were getting more bothersome. He hasn't recovered yet. It is written all over his face. Why is he doing this? I hope he picks the first option. His eyes lowered on my body momentarily and then back to my eyes. "Fine, the pajamas are trustworthy. At least you won't catch a fucking cold." He said, starting his car. I furrowed my brows. "Wha....are you seriously picking the second option?" "Do me a favor and put your seatbelt on," I scoffed. "Come on, Shawty," he said, placing his other hand on the head of my seat and driving towards the gate. I shook my head as I grabbed my seat belt and strapped it on. We drove out the gate and hit the road. I fiddled with my fingers as I stared at him. He has one hand on the wheel, the other still on the head of my seat, and his eyes are focused on the road. How could he be driving? He is sick. Where does he want to be so bad that he doesn't care about his health? Wh

BIG KAIFuck, I love it when she says my name. "What are you......are you supposed to be..." "The stutter sounds like fucking music, baby." I retorted, smirking. She stared at me nervously. My eyes moved further to her pajamas. It's my first time seeing her in those. "You look fucking sexy despite being covered up in pajamas," I said, reaching to caress her face but she moved away instantly, making me furrow my brows. "Don't touch me, please." She said, looking everywhere but me as she folded her hands and let out a sigh. "What's wrong?" No response. I walked towards her and grabbed her arm gently. "Shawty...." She moved her hand out of my hold. Gently but it felt cold. The fuck did I do? I stared at her as she kept staring away. "Tell me what is....." I trailed the minute my dizziness picked up."Tell me what is wrong, shawty." "Nothing. Just go to your room and to your girlfriend and...." I furrowed my brows. "And leave me alone." she completed. BIG KAIMINUTES EARLIER..... The familiar sound of my ringtone pierced slightly into my ears, making me open my eyes. The ceiling greeted my eyes as I felt the weight of my fever lessening but my taste buds were a bit sour. I felt a weight on my chest and belly, making me lower my gaze. A feminine hand on my body. I turned my head to the left and I saw dark hair. What the...Sharp dizziness struck me, making me close my eyes and rub my forehead. "Fuck." My phone rang again. I reached for it lazily on the nightstand and took the call without looking at the dialer. "Who the fuck is this?" I barely whispered. "OG," Reeko's familiar voice came through. "Reeko," I breathed, still feeling dizzy as I closed my eyes. "It's them Marcel boys." I opened my eyes. "What?" "They entered the hood a few minutes ago. Destroyed another mall and some properties in the hood as well." I gritted my teeth as I rose and put my legs down, earning a addition to my dizziness and a movement on th

MIAGosh, why didn't I check it earlier? Now I will have to go to the kitchen and get a new pack. Jay Jay will definitely wake up for his midnight snack as always. Sighing, I walked towards the door and out of the room. The hallway is quiet and lonely just like a typical night. Since I left the kitchen hours ago, this is my first time coming out. Coco had to bring us lunch and dinner to the room. She said nothing about Big Kai coming out of his room. I didn't even bother to ask. Why am I thinking about him now? I stared in the direction leading to his room. What if Coco was right about Brenda wearing his shirt as a misunderstanding? I let out a scoff. Stop this, Mia. Really. I took the direction leading to the stairs but stopped in my tracks, closing my eyes and letting out a sigh. Fine. Let's go check up on him.I rubbed my temple slightly as I turned towards the direction. Not long later, I got to his room door. I let out a breath and I reached to knock on the door

MIAShe is dressed in only a black shirt that looks familiar and her hair looks messy. My heart picked up at the possible reason. I shared a look with Coco as she placed the orange juice on the island. "The white girl and her kids. I wasn't expecting to see you here though," Brenda said, walking around the island and moving towards the fridge. I looked at Coco again as I put down the glass of juice Jay Jay was drinking from. Coco moved to the cooker as Brenda stared at the open fridge. I rested my eyes on the shirt she is wearing. Why does it look like the same one Big Kai wore from last night? She took out a bottle of water and closed the fridge. She grabbed a glass and moved to the island. She placed the glass down, opened the bottle, and filled up the glass. She picked up the glass and began drinking. I couldn't take my eyes off the shirt. Regardless of how it is messing with my head and heart. That is Big Kai's shirt. Why is she wearing it? She let out a fulfilling b

MIA Slowly, I reached for it and picked it from his palm. I lowered it and my gaze as well. "Put it in your hair." I clenched the stem again as anger filled me. Why does he keep telling me to do that? What is wrong with him? "Put the damn lily in your hair, girl." His voice was picking up. "I
