GRIEF AND GUILT

Lucas’s POV

The tires screeched slightly as I pulled into the clinic’s parking lot. I hadn’t even waited for the car to come to a full stop before I was out, slamming the door behind me. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat.

Antonia had sounded strange on the phone. Her voice had been quiet, weak, not her usual sharp and controlled tone.

Eva’s perfume still lingered on me. My shirt was wrinkled from our passionate encounter. My thoughts, my body, my mind—all were still trying to catch up. The guilt was crawling up my spine like ice.

But none of that mattered now.

I rushed through the automatic glass doors. The clinic was small, quiet, and smelled of antiseptic and anxiety. A nurse at the front desk looked up.

“Lucas…” I heard my name, faint but urgent.

My head turned. Antonia stood a few feet away near a row of blue plastic chairs, her arms wrapped around herself, her face pale. She looked nothing like the woman I left behind yesterday. Her shoulders sagged, her

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    THE COST OF DESIRE

LUCAS’S POVThe morning sun filtered through the blinds, casting pale stripes across the floor. But nothing about the lightness of the day reflected how I felt inside. The events of yesterday kept looping in my mind — Antonia’s voice, tight and suspicious. Eva’s sudden appearance. The awkward tension that clung to the air in that room.I had somehow managed to convince Antonia that Eva’s visit was harmless. A simple delivery. A formality. Nothing more. But deep down, I knew I had played a dangerous game, and the cost was circling me like a hungry predator.Still, my thoughts weren’t with Antonia this morning. They were with Eva.I sat on the edge of the bed, phone in hand. Antonia had gone to visit her mother early — something about a follow-up for her fatigue. She didn’t seem too worried when she left, just tired. Maybe a little pale. I didn’t press. But I had to see Eva. Not because I wanted to explain yesterday — though I did — but because I couldn’t stop thinking about her. The wa

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    THE EDGE OF COLLAPSE

The door closed behind me with a soft click, but to me, it sounded like a gunshot. My pulse was wild in my neck, in my ears, in every part of me that still clung to the thrill of being close to Lucas. But now—now all that was left was panic.I didn’t look back.I Couldn’t.I walked briskly down the pathway, trying not to let my legs wobble beneath me. My heels clicked too loudly on the concrete, like a siren. The street felt too quiet, the air too sharp. I could still feel her eyes on me—Antonia. The way she’d looked at me in that moment: confused, suspicious, maybe even already convinced.God, I had messed up.I had pushed it too far.I reached the end of the street before I let myself breathe. The envelope still trembled in my hand like it held dynamite. Just paper, just pretense. But it was what it represented that made my stomach clench. What the hell had I been thinking?I stopped at the corner and leaned against the cool metal of a streetlight, dragging in a shaky breath. My pho

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    CRACKS IN THE MASK

LUCAS’S POVThe door clicked shut behind Eva, and I swear the silence that followed cracked something open in the air.Antonia didn’t move. She just stood there, arms crossed, her eyes drilling into me like she was peeling back every layer of skin to get to the truth beneath. Her lips were set in a hard line, her brows drawn low—not angry yet, but waiting.I stayed frozen, envelope in hand, heartbeat a little too loud in my ears.“She came to drop something off,” I said, before she could even speak.Antonia blinked. Slowly. “Oh. Did she?”I nodded, clearing my throat and setting the envelope down on the counter, like it was Exhibit A in my case for innocence. She tilted her head. Her voice, when it came, was calm. Too calm. “That’s interesting.”I waited.“Because Eva doesn’t work in your department. She’s not on the marketing team. In fact,” she took a single step forward, “she’s not even your employee. She’s your employee’s wife,She’s Henry’s wife.”I opened my mouth. Closed it.Sh

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    NARROW ESCAPE

EVA’S POVThe sky had already begun to bleed orange when we packed up from the beach. Henry folded the blanket with practiced ease while I tucked the empty cups back into the tote bag. We’d stayed longer than we planned—walking along the shoreline, eating in silence, pausing to watch the waves crash and pull back like a rhythm only the sea could command. He reached for my hand as we walked back to the car. I let him.But my mind was somewhere else—drifting far from the quiet sand and salt air. Floating toward a name I hadn’t said out loud in days.Lucas.It had been a whole daysince I sent that message. One line, one desperate plea: Please. Just tell me why you left without a word.No reply.I should’ve been used to the silence by now. But it still cut.The ride back was quiet. Henry turned on the radio, humming along to a song I didn’t recognize. My phone sat in my lap, face down. I told myself not to check it. Not to hope.I failed. There was nothing waiting for me.Again.By the ti

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    TORN APART

Eva’s POVThe moment Henry turned away, I gripped my phone like it was the only thing tethering me to the world. My pulse was uneven, fingers shaking. I stared at the dark screen, hoping it would light up again, hoping his name would flash across it.But it didn’t.Lucas hadn’t replied. Not even a single word. No call. No explanation. He was just gone.I pressed the phone against my chest, hoping it would absorb the ache, calm the storm rising behind my ribs. But the silence was louder than any ring. It pulsed in my ears, crawled into my skin. I sat down slowly on the edge of the bed, trying not to make a sound, trying not to fall apart.Across the hallway, I could hear Henry moving in the kitchen—opening cabinets, the kettle clinking softly, footsteps creaking against the floor. Familiar sounds. Safe sounds. But I didn’t feel safe.I felt like I was being torn in two—one part of me wanting to reach for the man making coffee in the kitchen, and the other part still spinning around a g

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    THE SILENCE BETWEEN US

HENRY’S POVThe house was quiet. The kind of silence that clung to your skin and refused to let go. It had been like that since they argued. Eva had barely said a word after they went to bed. She just lay there, facing the wall, breathing steady, but Henry knew she wasn’t sleeping.Neither was he.Now it was morning. The soft golden light peeked through the curtains, brushing over the hardwood floor and across the edge of the bed. But Henry didn’t move. He was still staring at the ceiling, hands folded across his chest, replaying everything in his head. The balcony. The way Eva looked at Lucas. The conversation he walked in on.She had turned around so fast when she heard him, like she had been caught doing something she shouldn’t.He hated this. Hated even thinking it. But the thoughts came anyway.Had something been going on?Was there something between them that she never told him?Henry closed his eyes for a moment, trying to push the images away. He remembered another day, months

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    WHEN TRUST FALTERS

EVA’S POVThe ride home was quiet. Henry didn’t speak, and neither did I. I could feel the weight of his thoughts in the air, heavy and thick. I kept my eyes on the window, the city lights blurring as we passed street after street. I wanted to say something, anything but I didn’t know what would make things better. When we pulled into the driveway, he turned off the engine but didn’t move. I waited a moment before reaching for the door handle.“Eva,” he said finally, voice low.I paused. “Yeah?”“We’ll talk inside.”I nodded without looking at him and stepped out.Inside the house, the warm scent of vanilla from the candle I had left burning earlier filled the air, but it did nothing to ease the tension. I slipped off my heels and dropped my purse on the table. Henry followed, quiet still, but I could hear the frustration in every step he took.I went into the kitchen and poured two glasses of water, more out of habit than thirst. When I turned to offer him one, he just looked at me,

  • BETRAYAL GAME: HIS BOSS, MY OBSESSION    A NIGHT OF FACADE

EVA’S POV The day after meeting Mark, I sat alone in my apartment, the weight of his words pressing heavily on my chest. He had warned me that someone close might be monitoring me, and now, every glance from Henry felt scrutinizing. His smiles, his touches—all seemed tinged with suspicion. I questioned every moment, every memory, wondering if I had missed signs. Weeks passed, and the invitation to Lucas and Antonia's wedding arrived. Attending felt like a dagger to the heart, but declining would raise questions. Henry was eager, excited even. He saw it as a chance to celebrate with colleagues and friends. I plastered on a smile, agreeing to go, while inside, turmoil brewed. The ceremony was beautiful, set in a grand hall adorned with white roses and golden drapes. Antonia looked radiant, her gown shimmering under the chandeliers. Lucas stood tall, his eyes scanning the crowd, briefly meeting mine. I quickly looked away, focusing on Henry's hand holding mine. At the reception, laugh
