"Our first item of the night is the whispering city," the auctioneer announced. I stared at the painting from across the room, the dim lighting in the gallery seemed to heighten the painting's quality. "The bid will start at $1,500," the auctioneer said, and bidding began. "$2,000." "$2,500." I observed as others raised their paddles to bid. It wasn't that I wasn't interested in the painting, in fact, I was only here for the painting. I saw no reason to join the rest in the bidding game, there was no real challenger for me. "$7,000." The room went silent. I guessed everyone was done playing. After waiting for a few more seconds, I raised my paddle just as the announcer was about to declare it sold, "$8... $1,000,000." Everyone turned around in shock. "Wow! Did I hear that right? $1,000,000 from the gentleman at the back!" the auctioneer announced happily. I turned to see a man standing at the back, dressed in a black tuxedo. He had long hair tied in a short ponytail and a permanent scowl on his face, but he still managed to look hot. I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the announcer calling for more bids. Everyone began murmuring among themselves. "Who would be crazy enough to bid higher?" someone muttered. I would. "$2,000,000!" The room went dead silent. I turned to see that the man now had his eyes on me. His scowl seemed to disappear for a second, but I wasn't sure since I could barely see. "Wow, the painting is only worth $1,500, but we are already at $2,000,000," the auctioneer exclaimed. "Any other bidders?" the auctioneer asked. I stared at the stranger with a proud smile, knowing that he wouldn't go higher. To my surprise, he lifted his paddle and, with a low yet authoritative voice, said, "$5,000,000." My jaw dropped in surprise. Who bids $5 million on a painting? Even the announcer was dumbfounded. "F-f-five m-million?" he stuttered. I gripped my paddle tightly, I couldn't be defeated like this. I glanced at the man, who was staring back at me with... interest? Curiosity? I couldn't tell. After a moment of hesitation, I decided to throw caution to the wind and take this hot stranger head-on. "Twenty million dollars!" I yelled. If I thought the room was already dead silent before, then I was wrong. The room became so quiet that I could hear the inhales and exhales of others. "Sold!" the auctioneer announced, and the room erupted in applause. I had just bought a painting for twenty million dollars! I turned to look at the person who had successfully made me spend my life savings on a painting and saw him staring back with a grin. It was the first time his lips had curved up since the auction began. After the auction ended, I made my way to his table and introduced myself. "Hey there, I see you didn't buy anything?" I started with a smile. "A pretty lady stole the only piece I was interested in," he replied, flashing me a smirk, the same one he had given me from across the room. "Bummer, but I know another piece of art you could take home," I said, trailing my fingers along his tuxedo. His grin grew wider, hinting that he knew what I was implying, and soon his hands found their way around my waist. Maybe that painting was really worth 20 million dollars. . . . I woke up the next day in the stranger's bed. He was no longer lying next to me, but I could hear the sound of running water coming from the bathroom, meaning he was taking a shower. I scanned the room, admiring the interior and decorations. There were many paintings hanging on the walls, he must have been an art enthusiast like me. The sound of water stopped, and the door slid open, revealing the man standing half-naked, with only a towel tied around his waist. "You're still here?" he asked with a bored expression. "Where else would I be? I haven't gotten your name after all," I replied with a smile. "You don't need it," he said, beginning to get dressed. "Come on, I gave myself to you. Do you think it was for nothing?" I asked with a scoff. He turned to look at me with furrowed brows. "This was supposed to be a one-time thing," he stated. "One-time thing my ass! Do you think I'm a slut?" I asked. He stared at me with an unreadable expression. "So what do you want then?" he asked, making me almost scoff again. "I WANT YOU!" I snapped. He stared at me with an amused expression. "You want me? But we just met," he said, leaning against the wall. "Call it love at first sight," I replied. He burst into humorless laughter. When he stopped, he took slow strides to the bed and leaned over so that our faces were inches apart. "Can you handle being with me?" he asked in a serious tone. "Why wouldn't I be able to?" I asked. Before he could reply, the door burst open, and two men barged in, dragging a nearly unconscious man with them. They dropped the man in the center of the room and made him sit in a kneeling position. "Is this the bastard that stole from me?" the hot stranger asked in a chilling voice. "Yes, boss. We found him trying to sell the drugs," one of the men replied. Drug? Was he a drug lord? He walked to the almost lifeless man and held his chin in his hands. "Do you know what I do to people like you?" he asked. "Please forgive me! It won't happen again!" the man cried in a weak voice. "Trust me, it won't," the stranger replied, and without warning, he brought out a knife from his pocket and slit the man's throat. Then he turned to me with blood smeared all over his face and asked, "Do you still think you can handle being with me?"GINA’S POV The doctors lifted Quinn onto the stretcher and hurried off, beckoning on everyone to get out of the way. I tried seeing him off with them, to see his face before he is wheeled into the theater but the nurses held me back.“Mam, please. He need to get treatment. You could be bleeding internally. Mam, he will be fine. Please take care of yourself.” They said. Their hands gripping me from all sides. My face is smeared with tears and my vision blurred. I couldn't fight their hold. I'm just too tired. The nurses won, strapping me to a stretch. The lights on my way to the the emergency room kept flickering on and off. I turned my head sideways and held a nurses hand. And mutered. “Please… please don't let my husband die.”Her eyes are glossy, holding a hint of uncertainty. She mouthed silently. ‘We will try our best.’ It was the last thing I heard before the lights went out.****************THE FOLLOWING DAY “Mum, Dad is going to be alright. Don't cry please.” Derek said, snu
GINA'S POV I hit the road in the night and drove my full tank of gas all the way towards God knows where until it dried up. I parked the rental car in a motel I found in that unknown location and checked in. It is day break already. My eyes are sullen from crying and my head is aching. The motel attendant gave me aspirin and asked me to take it in front of her. I wasn't going to OD (overdose) and die in their motel.I didn't find it funny, not even a little bit. I paid in cash and crashed my tired self on the bed. Yesterday night playing in my mind on loop. I'm Aura. I'm Aura. I've been Aura this entire time. They were looking for me. I couldn't remember anything from the past that Quinn had narrated but it somehow made sense that I met Quinn and Leonardo. Why I was instantly pulled to them of all the people in the world.Until last night, I was certain my parents were mine. I had been lied to. Over and over. How much of my life do I not know? How much is missing in my memory?“Fuc
GINA'S POVMy plan touched down on East side, Orlands Airport. I took the rental car and drove into town. It is going to be a long drive to my destination so I called home. I talked with Derek than I called an old friend.“Hello, Guss.”I heard a chuckle at the other end of the phone.“What's funny?”“Oh, nothing. I'm still surprised you asked me for help. I mean. The first time we met ended you making one of those Hispanic girls slap the nuts of me.”I smiled. That was funny. “I'm glad you don't hold grudges.”“Grudges don't suit a black brother like me plus, the lady is hot by the way.”I let out a small laugh. “Take care of her.”“I will.” The line cut. I dropped the phone and stepped on the gears. The retried nurse told me that Aura was not adopted. She was taken by her family. Going on this hunt, made me realize why Quinn and Leonardo may have never found this if they looked. Hailey’s husband has access to filed that no one else can. Rock Creek hospital was a military hospital b
GINA'S POV“Hello, Quinn, finally. I've been calling.”“I'm sorry baby. Its really messed up over here.” I can hear a hint of frustration in his voice.“Is she really Aura.” He was silent for a moment. “Yeah.”“Oh my god.”“Mhmm. It really sucks. I didn't think I will ever have to meet her again under these circumstances.”“What are You gonna do?”“Leonardo and I have agreed, we will stay. If we left her alone back then she wouldn't have ended up the way she did. We have to make it up to her. Anyway we can.”“Quinn, are you growing a soft spot for her?” I wish so bad that he can understand how disgusted that made me feel.“I know this is so out of place but she is Aura.”“I don't care. Your Aura has become a bitch. Who she was in the past past doesn't validate or save her from any of the harm she did in the Future.” I was almost yelling, veins popping from my head. “Gina, please. I understand what this is like but I don't think you understand that we owe this girl. We have a lot to
SAMANTHA’S POVIts been a month since I fell off that base building. I still had fractures in places where fractures shouldn't be. But that wasn't the scary thing, it is that once again I had to sit in the same room with the men who put me here.Quinn is standing behind Leo. His massive figure pressing too hard against his suite. His face is ice cold and he wore no smile. Like the executioner on a visit with Hades. Leo was comfortable settled in the third cushion chair in the room. His legs crossed and his eyes fixed on me without blinking.I held my breath and squeezed my palms together. Trying to remind myself to calm down that I was here welcome. “Samantha Honey, it's alright. This men are your friends. That have been looking for you. Tell them how you found us.” The old lady said. I smiled brightly and then returned my gaze to the two men. I gulped. If only she knew what we all meant to each other now she wouldn't have cramped us up in the same room.“I remember two weeks ago, L
LEONARDO’S POV“Its Samantha’s father. All of a sudden, he has grown a soft spot for the girl he once abused. Now he is hunting my men down and tearing my syndicates apart and I can't do anything about it.”Gina’s eyes are locked with mine. The light in the room made them glimmer. She has tears in her eyes too, that's why. Her face held an expression of pity. She is worried about me and knowing that made my heart melt. The kiss on my lips made me realize how much I'm still in love with her.“Matteo will squash you. You don't have what it takes to hold him down, Leo.” I flashed her a big smile. “I won't go down without a fight either. You don't need to bother about all this. Its my business.”“And you saved our… Derek, I can't just standby and watch you suffer. Plus, Matteo should pay for raising a kid like Samantha.” She turned around to stare at Quinn who has been fuming with anger since they walked into the room. He exchanged glances with Gina. Hie frown deeper instantly.“Forge
