Zarlia’s POV

"He still has the guts to bring Letisha into this house and have her sleep in the same room with him," I murmured as I brushed my teeth. I had to be early for work on my first day, so I did my best to avoid a brawl with Romero. I'd slept on the couch, making sure to use my earmuffs so I wouldn't hear any sounds from their room.

"Where are you off to this early?" Romero queried as I came into the room to get my clothes. I wouldn't respond to him, not to someone who would disrespect me enough to bring another woman to sleep in our bed.

"Aren't you the one I was talking to?" Romero challenged, standing up.

"And how is it supposed to be your business?" I retorted, looking him straight in the eye before glaring at Letisha and leaving the room hastily. I was already running late, and I wasn't going to let my unfortunate boyfriend give me a bad record on my first day of work.

——————————

"Hi, you must be Zarlia, right?" A young man in a blue tuxedo and neatly ironed pants, broad-shouldered and with a firm jawline, approached me, extending his hand.

"Yes, I am," I responded, completely mesmerized by his looks.

"I'm Andrew, and I'll be showing you around the company," he smiled. "Follow me," he beckoned.

As Andrew showed me around the Stets Empire, I couldn't help but admire the magnificent building. Everything seemed perfectly placed. The paintings on the walls, the gigantic sculptures, the ambiance – it all exuded luxury.

"So, Miss Zarlia," Andrew said.

"Yes, sir," I responded almost immediately.

"Sir? I told you my name was Andrew," he retorted with a broad smile.

"I'm sorry, Andrew," I replied coyly.

"The top floor is occupied only by the MD and CEO, but as his secretary, you have an office just beside the entrance," he mentioned, motioning towards the office.

"Do I start work today?" I inquired.

"Oh no, you start tomorrow. I'll just show you around, and Bernice will tell you what to do," Andrew chirped. "So that's all for today. 8:30 tomorrow morning, don't be late," he added.

———————————————-

Oh, I should have asked him about the salary, I thought in the cab on my way home. "Well, the place looks really luxurious, I'm sure the pay will be good," I smiled. The last time I was this happy was on my birthday a few months ago when Romero sang, cooked, and played with me.

“Oh no, Romero” muttered almost in a scream . He did threaten me not to return to the house.

I desperately hoped he was only bluffing. I had nowhere else to go, and he knew it. There was no way he'd want me roaming the streets. Underneath the sweet loving boyfriend, Romero had a bad side, his anger, on several occasions he would do things that left me surprised, but i always held on, i believed everyone had a bad side to them, that made us all human with imperfections.

"Romero, please don't do this," I cried, as I saw him tossing my things out of the house.

"I warned you this morning didn’t i?” he hollered, shutting the door.

I stood there transfixed, unsure what to do. I couldn't think straight. My alleged mother had disowned me, and Romero had just kicked me out of a house I helped pay for. I couldn't hold back the tears. I held my bags and let them fall freely down my cheeks.

As i sat in the pavement on our street, i saw a car.

"It’s that weird guy again," I mumbled as I saw him in the white Range Rover parked right in front of my house. “How does he manage to find me every time I need comfort?” I wondered.

"Hey, Zarlia," he called out. "What's wrong this time?" he added, stretching his hands towards me.

"How do you always find me?" I queried, peering sternly into his eyes as i placed my hands in his palms.

Zarlia’s POV “I saw you crying from upstairs, and i was immediately worried, Stetson muttered gently cuddling my hair “Please don’t hurt me again” i said softly. Stetson’s eyes widened in shock, “Hurt you?” He chirped quickly. “Yes, see” i responded, showing him my neck where he had bitten. “I can explain” he hollered, holding my hands and peering sternly into my eyes. “How about i take you out for dinner” he offered quickly, trying to grasp the opportunity. “No, i’ll go home now” Zarlia retorted, disentangling herself from him, i could literally hear his heart beating fast as we hugged, i knew what it felt like to be loved, Romero had always made sure of that, but somehow this felt different. He didn’t have to say it but i felt it, i felt his heart lunging for me. I loved it, it felt like he could immediately fill in the void from Romero and my alleged Family, but i didn’t want him to have it easy, i wouldn’t just blow off the weird start. ———— I was a

ZARLIA’s POVI tried to forget everything that had happened that morning, but Stetson's eyes and his fangs lingered in my thoughts. I'd never seen anything like it before, but I was even more bothered by the comfort I'd felt with him."Miss Zarlia, it's your turn to be interviewed. Please go into the office," the lady announcing the applicants called out. A blushing woman who had just finished with her interview, walked out of the room."Thank you," I replied.I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. I knew I desperately needed this job. I needed to prove to everyone that I could survive, that I could do better for myself.I was about to open the door when I heard a feminine voice from inside the room. "Sir, you're leaving? Don't you want to interview the next person?" the voice asked. There was no reply. I knocked and opened the door when I heard, "Please, come in," from the lady inside. As I entered, I saw a tall figure walking out of the room through another door. I felt a

STETSON’S POV"Hey man, we'll be heading to our rooms," Joseph hollered, patting my shoulder.I and my friends had planned a hangout. It had been a while since we'd all properly bonded, after going our separate ways and trying to find our own paths. I grinned at Joseph. He'd brought his girlfriend, just like everyone else. But his girl was the most beautiful. Her dark, long hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall, and her almond-shaped eyes sparkled as she smiled. It was obvious Joseph was really proud of her.Everyone, including Stacy, my date (as everyone was asked to bring one), had gone upstairs to their private rooms. But I wanted to stay a bit longer. The evening was going fine. I sat on my chair, sipping my drink and reminiscing about the stories my friends had shared. But then I started to feel weird, like the bar was rotating.“ But I haven't drunk that much”, I mumbled under my breath as I stood to go to my room. I had planned to go up much later, after Stacy had fall

ZARLIA’s POV ""Zarlia, hurry up and come over to wash these dishes!" Manager Leo yelled, making me sigh unhappily. My face fell. Why would Letisha tell such a lie? I shrugged, mumbling under my breath. All the restaurant's cleaning had been dumped on me because Letisha had called in sick – again. She was pulling one of her usual stunts. I hated Letisha, but I had no choice but to do the work without complaining. The manager clearly favored her, and this job was my only source of income. I just hoped and prayed my application to the Stetson Empire was accepted this time. Just then, my phone pinged. I snatched it up and tapped the message. "Thanks for your application to Stetson Empire. We are impressed by your background and would like to invite you to interview." "Oh myyyyy…" I screamed, immediately stifling my excitement so I wouldn't draw attention to myself. "Yes!" I dropped the napkin I was using to clean the table, a happy smile blossoming on my face. Finally, I could leav
