I stayed there long after the door slammed shut, landing in my chest like a hammer.

I turned and stared at the door. I couldn’t even cry anymore.

My tears were too shocked to fall.

His statement echoed in my head.

“I think we should take a break.”

The same man who rushed all the way home because he thought I was crashing out over him leaving is the same man asking for a break.

He was being nice to say a break. I am sure he would’ve said a breakup.

My knees gave out, and I sank onto the edge of the bed.

Hours ago, his hands were on me. We made love, and now he couldn’t even look at me.

All I did was ask what was going on with him because my instincts were telling me he was hiding something.

He said the voice in my head was feeding me stuff, like I was crazy.

I pressed my palm to my mouth to muffle the sob that tore out of me.
