AWAKENING

The harshness of the light had him blinking, Xavier darted his weak eyes to see a white bedsheet up above his chest. Wide-eyed, he shifted and yanked it off him. An IV needle was stuck into his wrist... And then he finally realised he was on a hospital bed in a ward.

His lid lowered and he saw a head resting beside the bed. He blinked several times, trying to remember what happened before now until Bethany raised her face and drifted into a gentle smile. "You are awake." She yawned and leaned forward while he moved backwards.

He shut his eyes and exhaled.

"How long have I been here?"

"A night."

"A night... and you didn't sleep here, did you?" He said this lowering his legs to the floor.

Bethany ignored the question, of course, she slept. She stood up to leave and call a doctor when he gripped her hand. "Who brought me here?"

She scratched her nape nervously, attempting to find words to reply. "Your brother did..."
