82 – OUTBREAK

REBEKKA POV

My eyelids fluttered open and the familiar ceiling and walls of the clinic room came into view. I blinked as I felt the soft rays of the sunlight filter through the curtains and hit me.

What time was it? How long had I been out of it?

I strained to sit up, my body felt very heavy like someone was sitting on my chest. I took my right hand to the side of my head and then brushed it over my face.

Peeling faces, very crimson eyes!

These two images flashed through my mind and I suddenly became alert, all the lethargy leaving me.

I jumped to my feet and ran barefooted to the mirror at the side and looked into it, I let out a breath of relief.

My eyes were back to the old nondescript color. But what happened? Last time, they were very crimson, just like…

“Lord Stephan!” I yelped suddenly and then cupped my mouth, afraid that someone might have heard me.

It was all coming back to me now, I had just escaped the thugs Lady Vanessa sent after me when I had some sort of

If not for the current situation of my plan failing woefully and the alpha being on the warpath, I would not have to indulge the likes of Claude. After all, he was the one that lost Stephan in the first place,

We need all the hands we can get,” he said as he continued to lead me through the sea of bodies. My eyes darted left and then right.Gurneys were strewn everywhere and people were coughing and some had oxygen masks strapped around their faces. What the hell was going on?Dr Purcell said something about an outbreak but that sounded weird to me. How could our pack be suffering from an outbreak? That was not supposed to be possible.“How many so far?” I was surprised with how steady my voice was.Dr Purcell looked at me with a look of something that resembled astonishment. “Over fifty and rising. Our clinic might not be able to house them all if it gets much higher than that.”“Where

He got up and ran back to his sister, yelling and breaking the tense silence, “Kami!” he cried. One of the palace guards dashed forward and yanked him up by his collar, “You insolent brat… do you know what you have just done?”Oh noI got up and ran to the guard, “Please have mercy, please, he just lost his little sister.”The guard sneered at me, “Stay out of this,” he barked. He withdrew his claws and was about to maim the kid right before my eyes.My eyes widened in terror. Instead, the alpha was alive, his precious son on the other hand was missing in action.I would have been enjoying that little turn of events but instead, I was fussing over the fact that a plague was running rampant in my pack. What the hell was she thinking doing something like that? Did she think that I betrayed her? What happened when she confronted alpha Michael?I had way too many questions and not nearly enough answers. The pack looked deserted when we rolled in, Beta Hans, Claude, Vane and myself were in the lead.“What the hell happened here?” Claude asked, his eyes were wide with surprise. He was the one most opposed to leaving Stephan behind at Dragon Foot but seeing the gravity of what was going on back at the pack, looked like he had forg

I knew that I should have come back earlier, as soon as that pretentious dick, Vane, stopped me from using the Elite Guards, I should have rushed back here. The truth was that I was scared of what I would find, a Rebekka in a coma with red sores running down her spine.A part of me didn’t want to see that, to admit that I had failed her, that I had failed in general. Coming this morning was just routine I told myself. With how fast her own case was progressing, there was no way that she would still be alive now. She surely was dead. It was better I met her corpse than to meet her suffering and feeling helpless in her presence.I smirked as I walked into the clinic, the smell of disinfectants was so thick in the air that I could not distinguish her scent from anything else.Finding her in this mess would be a pain, “Hey…” I grabbed a hold of a wi

I would just be wasting precious time and sharing unnecessary hope. No, I would not tell it to anyone, I would keep it to myself and I would put it to the test and do it quickly. The sooner I ruled it out, the better.“Rebekka?”I spun around to see Miss Caitin staring at me with surprise. She was looking at the hospital gown I was putting on, “Are you sick?”“No,” I almost yelled. “Just ran out of fresh clothes.”She sneered, “Get dressed into something proper, there are more people that need those gowns… and what are you doing just standing there? The chief of the Elite Guards? No, the right hand to the alpha? No… that’s right, you are nobody to give me commands!” I yelled back.“You are all dismissed!” Vane yelled at the guards present. They shuddered and began to shuffle away.“If any of you take another step, I will have his head!” I commanded without even looking at them.Everyone came to a halt and stood very still. My eyes were on Vane and they were not happy eyes.
