REBEKKA Activity was bustling in the clinic as I held my mop close to my chest and weaved through the crowd to make my way over to the bedside of one of the pack warriors who had just vomited blood on the tiled floor. I put the mop down and cleaned up the mess and was about rinsing it free when I heard my name. “Rebekka! Get over here!” Doctor Purcell yelled as he struggled to hold down a combative patient. I dropped the mop and the bucket and ran over to him, “Yes, Master!” “Hold him down, I need to pull out all these shards!” He commanded. The man on the table eyed me wickedly as I tried to hold his hands down by his side, with a little shake he sent me stumbling backwards and I fell to the floor. I wasn’t even strong enough to hold down an injured pack warrior. “Get out of the way, mutt!” a vicious voice called out to me. I stiffened and looked up, shifting out of the way quickly. The man that spoke to me, along with two other men, were covered in blood and were pushing a gurney hurriedly into the pack clinic. On the bed was the most handsome man I had ever seen! He was shirtless and covered in blood but even that did not dampen how hot he looked. I felt a tightness in my chest as I gawked at him as I got to my feet, Who the hell was that? The initial excitement was replaced by a wave of fear, when I saw his injuries. Why was he bleeding so much? I didn’t think I had seen so much blood in my life. I felt sick. I just stood there as he was wheeled in and Doctor Purcell left the patient he was treating to give all his attention to the hot injured man that was just brought in. I shook off the fear and confusion, I was in a clinic and one day I was hoping I might be able to work here as a doctor, I should not be scared of the sight of such blood or injury. I went about my normal duties of cleaning up after patients and changing soiled sheets. Later that evening, as I was returning from a supply run, I saw a line forming up outside the clinic. What was this about? “Excuse me miss, please why are you lining up here?” I asked the last lady on the line. She eyed me head to toe and then smirked, “Are you sure that you are in this pack at all?” She looked at my uniform, “How can you work in the clinic and have no idea what is going on?” I was caught off guard by her aggression, “What is going on?” I asked innocently. She rolled her eyes at me, “If you are so curious, go to the town square!” she replied. I left her side and made my way over to the town square, today had just been weird. Firstly, we got a huge influx of pack warriors, it looked like they had been in some kind of fight or battle, with whom I had no idea. We were not through dealing with that and now there was a line forming up outside the clinic, was some rare disease going around? The voice of the alpha’s messenger boomed loudly and interrupted my thoughts, “Loyal members of the Half Moon Pack, today, your heir, the son of the great alpha Michael needs your help. He has been poisoned with wolfsbane by devious witches and is near death!” I gasped in shock, the alpha’s son was dying? How? Where? Something pinged in my brain and I remembered the young sexy man that was rushed in by those three menacing men. Could that be the alpha’s son? My heart began to thump in my chest. “He has a rare blood type and as such we need to find a donor for him or else he will die. Save your heir’s life… go to the clinic now and get tested, there awaits a huge reward for whoever shall save his life!” Before I could finish processing what I had heard, I was already running back to the clinic to join the line. How could I be aspiring to be a doctor like Master Purcell in the future and yet allow the alpha’s son to die under my nose? I couldn’t let that happen, I doubted that a low born like me would amount to any good but I was determined to do my best to save his life. I joined the queue and waited impatiently for my turn. Kaitlin glared at me when it was her turn to draw my blood, “What the hell do you think you are doing here?” “Please test me,” I said and bowed curtly. “What good could your blood be to anyone?” she added. “Next!” she shouted, looking past me. “Please test me, Kaitlin, please!” I refused to bulge. “Get away mutt, you are holding up the line!” the man directly behind me shouted. I winced but didn’t bulge, “Please Kaitlin,” I pleaded. Doctor Purcell came over with an annoyed look on his face, “What’s the matter here?” “Dad, Rebekka joined the queue!” Kaitlin ratted off. Doctor Purcell eyed me then looked at his daughter, “Just test her, this is urgent.” “But…” she began to protest. “Just do it and be done with it,” he cut her off. “Give me your hand!” She said in annoyance. Kaitlin jabbed me with the needle and drew my blood, I winced in pain, looked like she did it intentionally to hurt me. She put a drop of it on the yellow Stardust leaf and then gasped when it turned deep red. “Dad!” she yelled. I looked from the leaf to her face, “Please, what is going on?” Doctor Purcell ran over, as soon as he saw the red leaf his eyes widened and he looked at me, “You are a match!” Before I could show my surprise, two guards moved forward and grabbed me and led me into the clinic to a room and a bed, adjacent to me was the alpha’s son, Lord Stephan. Everything happened so fast. One minute I am getting tested and the next I am being laid down and prepped. The last thing I remembered before passing out was the drip being hurriedly fixed into my left hand and then everything faded into blackness.198 – VICTORY AT LASTREBEKKA POVSir Claude stopped in his tracks and his eyes moved over to alpha Stephan, awaiting his instruction. The whole crowd remained silent.I looked at Alpha Stephan too. Could she do that? Could she invoke the Iron Rule? What was even that?“Nessa…” alpha Stephan strained.“I will not let her have you alpha, not without a fight. A low born has no place at your side,” she remained adamant, her voice shaking with her steely resolve.Alpha Stephan exhaled deeply, “Very well, the Iron Rule is in effect.”The explosion from the crowd was energetic, cheers rippled from every nook and cranny of the alpha pack house.Alpha Stephan turned to look at me, his eyes showing that he understood my confusion, “You’re going to have to fight for me, Rebekka.”“What?” I muttered.“Fight for me, just like I have fought for you every step of the way. Don’t let me down, else I would be forced to live the rest of my life in misery.”He was serious, there was no mirth in his voic
197 – JEALOUSY AND THE IRON RULEREBEKKA POV“This war is over!” Stephan’s victorious voice reached me inside the cave.I coughed as I tried to get up, the second explosion that the Supreme Mother had caused broke the cave-in that separated me from Sir Claude and Williams.I started to get to my feet.“No,” a deep base voice oozed with sorrow.I stopped and looked up.The warlock, the Wolf Slayer, was kneeling in front of the Supreme Mother’s body. His huge body was shaking uncontrollably, “You can’t go, you can’t leave me alone here, come back to me,” he was muttering, shaking the Supreme Mother’s corpse.I groaned as I rose up.He looked over his shoulder, his eyes filled with tears and hate, “You did this,” he snarled in his low, almost inhumane voice.I backed up.He got up and started charging at me, “You did this!” he yelled, consumed by grief and anger.Out of nowhere came Sir Claude, the Wolf Slayer did not see him, he was too consumed with rage and grief, too focused on me to
196 – AMONGST BROTHERSSTEPHAN POVThe trembling in the cave bothered me.The first one sounded like it was in the general direction of where Rebekka and Claude were.It had been almost eight minutes since I heard Damon’s roaring words, I could feel it, I was close to him, any moment now. There was another terrible tremor and dust fell listlessly off the roof of the cave as the reverberation reached me.I felt a knot in my stomach, I turned to Tony, “Go make sure that they are okay.”He stared at me, “But–” he stopped himself, “Yes alpha.”He darted back in the general direction that we came.I took a deep breath, Rebekka had to be okay, if not, all this was not worth it, she needed to survive.I kept moving forward. It was strange, I could still hear the sound of fighting raging around the cave network but I had not encountered a single witch or warlock since I started going after Damon. It was as if the entire area had been cleared out for both of us.I took a right turn and came to
195 – A WITCH AND A PRIESTESSREBEKKA POV“Stephan!” an unnatural voice roared from a far distance sending goosebumps all over my body.“Damon!” I muttered under my breath, beads of sweat forming on my temple. The cave structure shook badly and more rubble and dust fell off the top.“Show yourself to me boy!” the voice boomed again, rattling the place. It was just three of us now, me, Sir Claude and one other wolf who I heard sir Claude call William.Alpha Stephan and the one called Tony had left to go after Damon and now Sir Claude and William were leading me out to safety. My whole body was still tingling, every sense seemed heightened beyond what it was and finally, I could see clearly in the dark.“Stop!” I barked suddenly.Sir Claude halted and looked at me with a frown, “What is it?”The hairs on my body stood on edge, “Something is coming,” I said. His gaze narrowed, he could tell something was different about me, “Luna, there is nothing up ahead.”I shook my head, I could fe
