REBEKKA Activity was bustling in the clinic as I held my mop close to my chest and weaved through the crowd to make my way over to the bedside of one of the pack warriors who had just vomited blood on the tiled floor. I put the mop down and cleaned up the mess and was about rinsing it free when I heard my name. “Rebekka! Get over here!” Doctor Purcell yelled as he struggled to hold down a combative patient. I dropped the mop and the bucket and ran over to him, “Yes, Master!” “Hold him down, I need to pull out all these shards!” He commanded. The man on the table eyed me wickedly as I tried to hold his hands down by his side, with a little shake he sent me stumbling backwards and I fell to the floor. I wasn’t even strong enough to hold down an injured pack warrior. “Get out of the way, mutt!” a vicious voice called out to me. I stiffened and looked up, shifting out of the way quickly. The man that spoke to me, along with two other men, were covered in blood and were pushing a gurney hurriedly into the pack clinic. On the bed was the most handsome man I had ever seen! He was shirtless and covered in blood but even that did not dampen how hot he looked. I felt a tightness in my chest as I gawked at him as I got to my feet, Who the hell was that? The initial excitement was replaced by a wave of fear, when I saw his injuries. Why was he bleeding so much? I didn’t think I had seen so much blood in my life. I felt sick. I just stood there as he was wheeled in and Doctor Purcell left the patient he was treating to give all his attention to the hot injured man that was just brought in. I shook off the fear and confusion, I was in a clinic and one day I was hoping I might be able to work here as a doctor, I should not be scared of the sight of such blood or injury. I went about my normal duties of cleaning up after patients and changing soiled sheets. Later that evening, as I was returning from a supply run, I saw a line forming up outside the clinic. What was this about? “Excuse me miss, please why are you lining up here?” I asked the last lady on the line. She eyed me head to toe and then smirked, “Are you sure that you are in this pack at all?” She looked at my uniform, “How can you work in the clinic and have no idea what is going on?” I was caught off guard by her aggression, “What is going on?” I asked innocently. She rolled her eyes at me, “If you are so curious, go to the town square!” she replied. I left her side and made my way over to the town square, today had just been weird. Firstly, we got a huge influx of pack warriors, it looked like they had been in some kind of fight or battle, with whom I had no idea. We were not through dealing with that and now there was a line forming up outside the clinic, was some rare disease going around? The voice of the alpha’s messenger boomed loudly and interrupted my thoughts, “Loyal members of the Half Moon Pack, today, your heir, the son of the great alpha Michael needs your help. He has been poisoned with wolfsbane by devious witches and is near death!” I gasped in shock, the alpha’s son was dying? How? Where? Something pinged in my brain and I remembered the young sexy man that was rushed in by those three menacing men. Could that be the alpha’s son? My heart began to thump in my chest. “He has a rare blood type and as such we need to find a donor for him or else he will die. Save your heir’s life… go to the clinic now and get tested, there awaits a huge reward for whoever shall save his life!” Before I could finish processing what I had heard, I was already running back to the clinic to join the line. How could I be aspiring to be a doctor like Master Purcell in the future and yet allow the alpha’s son to die under my nose? I couldn’t let that happen, I doubted that a low born like me would amount to any good but I was determined to do my best to save his life. I joined the queue and waited impatiently for my turn. Kaitlin glared at me when it was her turn to draw my blood, “What the hell do you think you are doing here?” “Please test me,” I said and bowed curtly. “What good could your blood be to anyone?” she added. “Next!” she shouted, looking past me. “Please test me, Kaitlin, please!” I refused to bulge. “Get away mutt, you are holding up the line!” the man directly behind me shouted. I winced but didn’t bulge, “Please Kaitlin,” I pleaded. Doctor Purcell came over with an annoyed look on his face, “What’s the matter here?” “Dad, Rebekka joined the queue!” Kaitlin ratted off. Doctor Purcell eyed me then looked at his daughter, “Just test her, this is urgent.” “But…” she began to protest. “Just do it and be done with it,” he cut her off. “Give me your hand!” She said in annoyance. Kaitlin jabbed me with the needle and drew my blood, I winced in pain, looked like she did it intentionally to hurt me. She put a drop of it on the yellow Stardust leaf and then gasped when it turned deep red. “Dad!” she yelled. I looked from the leaf to her face, “Please, what is going on?” Doctor Purcell ran over, as soon as he saw the red leaf his eyes widened and he looked at me, “You are a match!” Before I could show my surprise, two guards moved forward and grabbed me and led me into the clinic to a room and a bed, adjacent to me was the alpha’s son, Lord Stephan. Everything happened so fast. One minute I am getting tested and the next I am being laid down and prepped. The last thing I remembered before passing out was the drip being hurriedly fixed into my left hand and then everything faded into blackness.146 – LIES AS TRUTH REBEKKA POV“Yes, you were right, your blood can break the curse,” he continued to speak.A wave of relief washed over me, I was right, he knew all along, “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get out there.”“Did you listen to anything that I told you? I stuck him with a silver dagger in the heart and it didn’t slow him down.”“Yes,” I said eagerly, “You just said that my blood can break the curse, let’s use it to do so.”Damon squinted as he stared at me, “Have you ever been in a fight before? Vane or the Wendigo is not exactly going to sit there waiting for you to come cure it. We should wait until the day when he is back in his human form, then he will be easier to deal with.”“No, we cannot do that,” I snapped, “Lord Stephan is out there right now, that monster is hurting him and if what you said is true, he has no way to kill it.”Damon still remained unfazed but there was a faraway look in his eyes, “If the alpha son is anything like I think he is, he would
145 – PARALYZEDSTEPHAN POVClaude was safe and he was going to remain that way.Tonight, I would put an end to this menace and avenge my three fallen comrades.I had no idea how the creature was tracking them but I knew it was doing so somehow, each and everyone of them had been found and brutally murdered and what was worse, it looked as if they didn’t put on a fight. That didn’t make any sense to me, these were all well trained warriors, could it be that the creature was so stealthy that it got the drop on all three of them? That was not possible, could it be that there was more than one creature? The thought of that scared me a little, I had not put that into consideration when I made this half-cocked plan.It didn’t matter, the plan was in motion and there was no backing out of it.I thrust my hands deep into my pocket as I walked the empty cobbled streets.Ever since the murders started, the high-borns were too afraid to come out at night, it was not every day that three high-bo
144 - GODDESSREBEKKA POVI gasped softly and then Damon’s eyes and mine met, there was a flash of understanding in them, he seemed to know exactly what it meant.“Fuck,” he muttered.“What is it?” I asked. The text said, Blood of a goddess, if I was not mistaken, it was referring to someone like me? Right? My eyes searched his, would he finally admit that he knew what this was all about? Maybe he could provide more insight.“Forget it, we will find another way,” he said and flipped the page over.“No, say it, tell me,” I insisted.“Oh, c’mon Rebekka, this is not the time to play coy,” he snapped. The tension in the air was thick and unbearable as we stayed there, eyes locked, mine searching, his refuting.“If the only way to break the curse is with the blood of a goddess, then that’s exactly what we are going to do.”“Why do you have a death wish?” he asked suddenly.“What?” I was taken aback, “I do not have a death wish.”“Oh, you think you are somehow invincible now, is that it? Yo
143 – LATE NIGHT STUDYREBEKKA POVI was darting through streets, moving at a speed so fast that I knew it could not be mine, I had to be dreaming or something like that.I could feel a thick unease, it was almost coursing through my vein as blood, my heart was thumping in my chest but there was something else, anger, almost boiling anger.I trashed around in bed as I continued to dream, back in the dream, I felt myself come to a complete stop.I was not alone, I could feel it, something was hunting me, my hairs were standing on edge as I stood there, breathing hard through my nose.I didn’t feel fear, if anything, there was this sick sense of relief that I was being targeted. There was no way this was me, even as the dream went on, I could tell, it was somehow not mine. This did not feel right, why would I be dreaming a dream that had nothing to do with me?I stood there listening and the more I did, the closer whatever it was that was hunting me came, a shrill high-pitched sound sli
142 - UNDYINGDAMON POVWhat was this thing? The members of Stephan Squad were no slouches; I had worked with them once and that was enough time for a seasoned fighter like myself to tell. The way they moved, their coordination, these were highly trained high-born wolves. Now this thing has killed three of them? Fucking hell. As Stephan walked out, Rebekka followed after him leaving me to my thoughts. What the hell was going on? This was undoubtedly the work of Lady Cecile, but why was she going after Stephan? If anything, I thought that she would be coming after me. That didn’t seem to be the case, I was safe from the attack but once again, she was killing members of my pack. The only people that she was supposed to kill were those that I wanted dead, namely – the alpha and his Luna. What gave her the audacity to have another monster running loose in my pack?I needed to put an end to this, as soon as possible. I took a deep breath as I recalled my encounter with the monster. I had
141 – NO WEAKLINGSTEPHAN POV“Lord Stephan, I’m so sorry,” Rebekka said as she reached out to take my hand.I waved her off, “I just… It’s okay, I just need a minute.”I walked out of the cell and back outside the brig, my head felt like it was going to explode, why the hell was this happening to me?I knew from the start that Damon was innocent but a part of me wanted him to be guilty, that would have made this easier, I would have been able to take out my anger on him, but right now, I had nowhere to put all this rage that was swirling within me.“Lord Stephan, is there anything that I can do?” a soft voice broke out behind me.I spun.Rebekka was right behind me, her hands were in her laps and her eyes were wide and eager, she was watching me, there was a glimmer of red in her pupils.I swallowed, “I just need to be alone right now.”“Okay, okay,” she muttered softly, “But I am here for you, anything that you need, please, I am right here.”I squinted and twitched irritably.Rebek
