Chapter 4

All the books and lore I read, though they varied in one way or

another, agreed that wendigos were once humans with an

enormous carnivorous appetite for human flesh; the folklore also

mentioned in its contexts that the only thing that could kill a

wendigo is a silver blade to the heart, so it seems that the legend

was true after all. Well, actually, monsters weren’t born; they

were created. Long story short, they messed up with a very

powerful witch, so the witch cursed them to be monsters with an

 insatiable thirst for human flesh.

“Is it dead? Looking at the ground where its body was laid?”I

wonder where she obtained her large brown coat from, Iris

 asked me.

“Yes,” I answered, shoving a handful of my blond hair out of my

face and attempting to catch my breath.

“How are you doing? She gave you a pretty good shove.” I put my

hand on her shoulder and gave her a thorough examination.

“Nope, I’m fine. I would have reprimanded her, but I knew Iris

too well to think that she would listen, and she never did. “I have

tough skin and I heal quicker than you,” she said with a smile that

eased my anxiety, All right. I offered to take the lead and drag the lifeless animal by

the horn. “Quick, let’s take it to the woods and bury it before

 someone sees us.”

Iris answered, “Sure,” and she followed me in dragging the lifeless

body of the Wendigo. We buried it six feet below the surface of

the earth when we got to the woods. Iris and I headed directly to

our apartment, which was closer to the state campus. I could

barely close my eyes at night.

It was just a matter of time before another monster discovered

me, and I had a strong suspicion that this wouldn’t be the last one

 I have to deal with.

But I’ll be prepared for each and every one of them.

 Dimitri’s POV

I smelled her perfume at Tropical Thunder yesterday, and yes,

after all this time, I felt her for the first time—my so-called mate

—but I sincerely wish I hadn’t for her own sake.

Since yesterday, when Luca my wolf first smelled her, he has

been practically singing the word “Mate” in my head. It was

excruciatingly painful to bear. I suppose he was jumping for joy

at the thought of finally meeting his so-called soulmate, but I

wasn’t, and to be honest, meeting someone chosen for me by the

moon goddess wasn’t exactly thrilling to me. It sounds too corny,

if you ask me. There were still a lot of things that needed to be

done, and she smelled like a human. What the hell could she do

to help me or the pack?

A human partner was useless to me and even more so to the

entire pack; if anything, she would just get in the way of my goals, regardless of what Celeste or her blasted predictions had

 stated.

My name is Dimitri Axel Castellan, and just to whet your

appetite, I am a Lycan. Well, our sworn enemies, the vampires,

made sure of it, being the last of us that still roamed this already

 messed up earth.

When I’m not out signing checks, closing deals, or breaking

pretty girls’ hearts, I’m the Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, the

biggest and most formidable pack in all of Europe. To the

supernatural world, I am known as the Blood Alpha and

everyone’s worst nightmare. To the mundane world, I am the

CEO of Castellan corp and Europe’s youngest and most eligible

 billionaire playboy.

A flashback of that cursed day crept back into my mind. It’s been

two decades and three years since both of my parents were

killed, the day we were raided and attacked by the Volkari coven,

but the memory was fresh to me like it was just yesterday,

haunting and plagued my thoughts. I guess time could heal some

wounds but this wound won’t. My mother, the Luna queen, and

father, the former Alpha lycan king, died a few years after I was

born, four years to be exact, In case you missed it, the Volkari’s were a coven of very old and

elite vampires. If you asked me, they were nothing more than

bloodthirsty parasites, and they are our eternal enemies. What

made them so dangerous was that, despite having thousands of

armies, they were presumably dispersed throughout the world

with the sole intent of wreaking havoc wherever they went.

I pushed those thoughts from my mind as I slammed the door of

my black Rolls Royce shut, knowing that vampires in the Volkari

pack were evil and that every pack knew better than to draw

their attention. I had arrived at Coffee Bay, the best café in

Bournville, and I literally ran on their best coffee.

I pushed open the door to the café and saw that Lance and Gabe

were waiting for me at a table. Lance is my delta and also my

annoying little cousin who occasionally irritates me. I fucking

hate that mutt. Lance is also my childhood friend and one of the

very few people I could completely trust. Our bond was

strengthened because he is also my beta and second in command

in my pack. In addition, he is one of the best warriors in the

pack, if I do say so myself.

Once again, everything was filled with the comforting and

enticing sweet aroma of freshly cut lilacs and vanilla.

Third-person POV Like a razor slicing through the air, Sylvester’s desperate calls cut through the quiet passageways of the Volkari vampire coven’s palace. He could feel the weight of the message he was carrying increasing with every step; it was highly significant and disturbing to their goals. Anxiety knotted in Sylvester’s chest because he was certain that his master, the vampire king, would not approve of this. His shove caused the throne room’s tall doors to tremble and creak, announcing his arrival with a loud roar that echoed throughout the room’s enormous volume. “Sire! Sire! Sire!” cried Sylvester, his eyes bloodshot with terror and anxiety. With a low, groveling bow that conveyed the seriousness of the matter, he paused before his master and the King of the vampires, Konstantine. Seated on his throne, Konstantine remained still, his black robes fluttering about him like a raven’s wings. His blood-red eyes glowed with rage as he stared coldly at Sylvester. He always relished

Oh Dimitri… I did something really terrible… I— I—” With a hint of worry in his voice, he said softly, “Tell me Isabella. What did you do?” He stares into my eyes as I tell him, “I made a deal with the prince of hell.” “Isabelle—” I hastily informed him, “I didn’t know what else to do. It was the only way I could bring you back.” “That’s why I feel different… My soul became part demon during my time in hell.” he said.I nodded, “Yes.” He pressed his palm into his black hair and took a deep breath. Dimitri’s voice hardened in rage, but it wasn’t aimed at me. “What did that bastard ask in return?” he demanded. “He wants our daughter. He says he will come to claim her as his bride after she turns eighteen.” I told him the truth. “Fuck Isabelle! How could you trade our child to bring me back.” He screamed. “I had no other choice, Dimitri. With you gone we wouldn’t even have a child to begin with. I knew I was wrong but I couldn’t live without you. But I’m not giving up my daughter to anyon

His smirk sent a shiver down my spine as he said, “Alright! A bargain with the devil always comes at a great price.” Would I be able to afford the cost? I shouted, “What price do I have to pay?” With icy breath departing his lips, he said, “It isn’t a matter of price, but a matter of cost Isabella.” With such a chilly tone, he tells me, “And the cost is your first born daughter. When you finally have her she will be my bride.” His remarks caused my eyes to widen. He desired my child. He wanted her even though I wasn’t pregnant yet. I said, “You bastard!” I lash out at him, saying, “You are crazy if you think I will agree to that.” I stared at his pallid face. He stands directly in front of me and asks, “So would you rather let the man you love remain dead? I thought mortals were willing to go to any depths for love, or was I wrong?” “The child can live with you until she turns eighteen, that’s when I will come to claim her as my bride.” Memphis declares. I considered it: I couldn’t gi

I sobbed while holding his lifeless body close to me. Lance fell to the ground and knelt in front of his dead Alpha. He sounded a long, melancholy howl, and the other wolves bowed to the fallen Alpha King, joining him in the sky with their own cries. “The end??” I muttered, “This can’t be our end, Dimitri,” with a low, savage snarl. “This couldn’t be the end we deserved!” I sobbed, transforming my suffering into a renewed resolve. “I won’t let our story end this way, Dimitri. This is my last promise to you.” We weren’t doomed! ~~~~~~~~~~ ***AFTER A WEEK*** Location: Damascus, Syria He passed away seven bloody days ago. It had been seven brutal days since sanity had deserted me, replaced by a primordial, all-consuming hatred that drove my every action. Finding a method to revive Dimitri had turned into a singular fixation of mine, an unrelenting quest that had no boundaries. I have been traveling across the entire continent for the past couple days. In an attempt to revive Dimitri, I

My greatest love, Dimitri, was my mate, and I had to find him! My father hurried after me and asked, “What is wrong, my dear?” I kept a close eye on him since I sensed that his motivations weren’t entirely good. I said, “This isn’t real,” my voice trembling with conviction as I shivered out of his icy clutches. “None of this is.” Panic flared in my mother’s eyes as she tried to pull me in. “What do you mean?” she asked, looking into my soul with an emotionless face. I mumbled, “Mom, I watched you die,” my voice choked with a mix of outrage and agony. I tell her and all the witches in the room who are watching, “I watched all of you die when I was only four. This can’t be really happening?” My mother bluntly said, “We are your family, Isabella,” and as she sought to bring me into her arms, I resisted. As the shattered fragments of my recollection solidified into an astonishing clarity, I screamed, my heart pounding, “No, there is an important part in my memory that I was missing….” “I

I snarl and charge at Alpha Hessimir, tearing his fucking skull from his body before he could get his claws on Isabella. Namek smiles and tells me, “I knew you would protect me.” I needed to get the Darkness out of Isabella since I detested seeing her like this. “Isabella, you need to fight this, come back to me.” I attempted to connect with her but was unable to do so because of a large wall separating us. Namek replied, “Isabelle doesn’t want to come back to you.” I could feel Isabelle resisting, and she gasped aloud as hereyes brightened. “We must now cast the spell, Dimitri. Diego said frantically, “Namek is getting all of her powers from the prison world.” As they attempted to exorcise the darkness within Isabella using the Jade stone, Celeste, Dixie, Alexa, and a few witches formed a protective circle around her. Diego used the blazing Jade stone in his palm to chant while forming a magical shield around Isabella. He continually screamed, “Incervica le mer ra demonica…” and the
