Chapter 10. Dante Hills Pack

The Dante Hills Pack is a wolf pack that hails from the outskirts of Wolfspring Forest. They interacted more with humans in Wolfspring City and only went into the forest to hunt. Their pack members were few. From the last information Albert got, they numbered no more than twenty people. A small number when compared to the Golden Moon Pack, which was the largest pack in the entire Wolfspring.

Albert came to Dante Hills Pack with Jayden and five of his strongest warriors. With only twenty people, Albert was confident that they would be able to take down the pack in no time. Coming out of nowhere, Albert and his pack attacked the Dante Hills Pack mercilessly.

Even so, the Dante Hills wolves put up quite a fight. Alpha Dante Hills Pack went one-on-one with Albert. He didn't know for what reason Albert suddenly came to attack. However, when he saw his pack being slaughtered one by one, the Alpha was furious.

"Stop!" ordered Leroy, Alpha Dante Hills Pack, in a loud voice.

Albert raised his right fist for his pack to stop fighting.

Alpha Leroy turned his head towards his pack, which lay lifeless in a state of torn bodies. As an Alpha, he felt he had failed to protect his pack. This was the worst condition for an Alpha.

"I know the whole Wolfspring knows your reputation, Alpha Albert, but I don't feel like I have any problems with you.  So, what made you come here and slaughter my pack?" asked Leroy, who was trying to contain his anger.

The smirk on Albert's lips showed no remorse at all. When his foot stepped forward, all of the remaining Dante Hills wolves immediately assumed an alert stance. Albert glanced at them one by one and then laughed lowly.

"Nice defense," Albert said, simultaneously praising and disparaging while pulling the corners of his lips down. His expression turned cold when he said, "Tell me about the prophecy!"

"Prophecy? I don't know what you're talking about," Leroy retorted.

"Don't play dumb in front of me, Alpha Leroy! I know you know something about the prophecy. You better tell me, then I'll let you and your pack live in peace," Albert said.

One of the Dante Hills wolves approached and whispered something into the Alpha's ear. Looking at Albert out of the corner of his eye, the Alpha turned his head.

"Oh, so you heard about the prophecy?" Leroy snorted with a sardonic smile. "Why, Alpha Albert? Are you afraid? I thought at first that it was you. But when I saw your fear, I changed my mind. It can't be you," he taunted.

Leroy's words disturbed Albert's emotions. However, the Alpha was still able to control his composure. Albert smiled slightly and said, "Me? Scared? I guess you don't know my reputation as well if you still think that way. Don't waste my time, Alpha Leroy! Tell me about the prophecy, and I will spare you."

"Who are you to talk about forgiveness with me?" Leroy spoke in a hissing voice while staring intently at Albert, full of hostility. A moment later, the man grinned and shouted, "Fire!"

Dozens of arrows flew toward Albert and his flock. They tried to deflect and dodge, but there were still arrows that pierced their body. They were injured, but it just made the adrenaline rush even more intense.

After the arrows were gone, Alpha Leroy and his flock attacked. They didn't want to give their opponents a chance to rest. Technically, they won in numbers. However, they also couldn't ignore the reputation of Albert and his warriors, who had defeated several packs before.

Albert pulled out the arrow stuck in his arm and countered Alpha Leroy's attack. Even though he was fighting injured, it did not diminish Albert's strength. Every Alpha who died in his hands made his strength increase. Because of that, Albert became the strongest Alpha in Wolfspring's entire history.

In just a short time, the entire Dante Hills pack was eliminated. That left Alpha Leroy, who was now in Albert's clutches.

"I'm giving you one last chance, Alpha Leroy. Tell me about the prophecy, and I'll let you live!" Albert ordered Leroy, who was lying limp on the ground.

Leroy coughed up blood from his mouth. The man then laughed weakly at Albert, who was so curious about the prophecy.

"You will never get the parchment, Alpha Albert," Leroy said in a weak voice. "And you will never get my power," he added, then stabbed an arrow into his heart.

Albert bent his knees and grabbed Leroy's collar with a roaring breath. But unfortunately, Leroy died first, so Albert didn't manage to get the information he wanted. The man shook Leroy's body violently and stood up.

Albert walked up to Jayden and said, "My father never said anything about the parchment. Check this place and find the parchment!"

"Roger that," Jayden replied as he nodded once.

The Beta ordered the others to check the place. Entering the house belonging to the Alpha Dante Hills Pack, they shuffled through the entire building, but there were no expected results.

Jayden returned to Albert with a head shake. "There are no clues here," he said.

Albert's hands were clenched into tight fists. His jaw tightened as he took a deep breath.

"There's no point in us being here anymore. We're leaving now!" the man ordered.

Leaving the Dante Hills area, Albert and his flock returned to the pack by way of Wolfsbane Hill. Albert wanted to confirm his suspicions about the place. The man stood overlooking the expanse of wolfsbane plants that stretched like a purple tapestry. The morning sun shining through the gaps in the leaves made the blooms look even more beautiful.

"You still think that girl lives up there?" asked Jayden while pointing at the hill with his eyes.

Albert did not answer. The man's attention was focused on a scrap of cloth stuck in a thorny bush. He then approached the bush and picked up a scrap of cloth. The color and the lingering scent of the cloth were very familiar to Albert.

"This is hers," Albert said.

"You mean the girl?" Jayden came over and asked for the scrap of cloth from the Alpha.

Instead of answering Jayden's question, Albert noticed the grass around him. There was a section of grass that was not tall, looked like it had been trampled, and formed a trail pattern. Albert followed the trail, which disappeared in front of a gap between two fairly wide wolfsbane plants. Albert stopped walking and examined all directions.

"Did you find anything?" asked Jayden.

"A trail," Albert replied briefly.

The man looked behind him at a big fallen tree trunk. Albert walked quickly to it and climbed onto the trunk. Then he jumped to a higher branch so that he could see much further. He gazed longingly at the hill, then slowly raised the corners of his lips.

"Impressive," he murmured.
