Lucian's POV

I stood over her while the healer finished wrapping the wound, candlelight throwing both our shadows long across the stone.

Violet didn't stir. Her breathing had evened out an hour ago, though it still came shallow, too fast for sleep.

The healer tied off the bandage and rose to her feet, not quite meeting my eyes. "The bleeding has stopped, my lord. She'll wake within an hour."

"Leave us."

"Yes, my lord."

The door clicked shut behind her, and the candle flames near it guttered onc

Violet's POVI woke up to sunlight pressing warm against my eyelids, and something felt wrong before I even opened them. There was no throb in my knees when I shifted under the blanket. No pull at my throat when I turned my head.I sat up and pulled back the blanket, staring down at my legs in the morning light. The skin where the stone had torn me open the day before was pale and whole, not even the faint pink line a healing wound usually left behind. I pressed two fingers against the spot where the deepest scrape had been. Yet I got nothing, like my body had simply erased what happened. My hand went to my throat next, fingers searching along my collarbone for the edge of a bandage and it wasn't there. My skin was smooth and unharmed.I sat frozen for a moment, running my fingers over and over the place where his teeth had been, unable to make sense of what I wasn't feeling.A knock startled me out of it."You're awake." Rhoswen leaned in the doorway when I opened it, one shoulder

"The bleeding has stopped, my lord. She'll wake within an hour.""Leave us.""Yes, my lord."The door clicked shut behind her, and the candle flames near it guttered once in the draft before steadying.I stood there a moment, then spoke to the empty room."I know you're here." My eyes remained fixed on Violet. "Come out, Kellan."He didn't answer at first. I watched the candles dim, all of them at once, the flames shrinking to blue at their centers though no wind moved through the room. Then the shadows near the hearth thickened, folding in on themselves until they took his shape. Kellan didn't speak right away. He walked towards me slowly, his boots making no

Violet's POV"Please...!" I cried, stumbling as Lord Blackthorne dragged me across the rough stone corridor without slowing his pace. "Please, you're hurting me!"My fingers clawed helplessly at the hand gripping my arm, but it was like trying to pry apart iron. The cold stone scraped against my bare feet. Every time I lost my balance, my knees slammed against the floor before he dragged me forward again.Sharp pain shot through my body as the rough ground tore at my skin, leaving burning scratches across my legs. My palms stung where I'd tried to catch myself, small stones biting into the torn skin."I wasn't trying to run," I sobbed, struggling to keep up with his long strides. "I swear I wasn't. She told me to find your chambers myself. I got lost."He didn't answer. His broad shoulders remained stiff as he continued walking, his black coat billowing behind him. The torches along the walls blurred past, one after another, until I lost count of how many corridors we'd crossed."Plea

Violet's POVMy eyes darted open the moment my body slowly regained consciousness. A sharp groan escaped my lips as I lifted my head, a throbbing pain pounding against my skull. Why does my head hurt so much? I pressed a trembling hand against the back of my head. Did someone knock me out?The moment my surroundings came into view, my breath caught in my throat.I found myself in a bedroom that looked like it belonged to a fairy tale princess.Silk sheets.Antique furniture.Elegant gold-trimmed walls.Everything about the room screamed luxury. It wasn't anything like Ivy's or Jade's bedroom.This... this looked like heaven.Thousands of questions flooded my mind.Where am I?Before I could think any further, the lock on the door clicked open.I quickly looked up.A lady stepped inside, walking toward me with slow, measured steps before stopping beside the bed. She folded her arms across her chest, looking over me with narrowed eyes."So." She tilted her head slightly. "Pretty little

Violet POV I woke to the smell of oil and rust, and for a moment I thought I was still dreaming, still trapped in one of those endless corridors from my nightmares. Then the vehicle hit a pothole and my skull cracked against something hard, and the pain told me this was real. My wrists were bound behind my back, the rope biting deeper than the one Helena had used. A strip of fabric pressed against my lips, tied tight enough to keep my jaw locked. I tried to scream anyway. It came out as nothing, a useless vibration trapped behind cloth. The floor beneath me vibrated with the rhythm of tires on gravel. I was lying on my side in what felt like the trunk of a car, my knees pulled to my chest, every jolt sending fresh pain through bruised ribs. Voices murmured somewhere beyond the metal separating me from the front seat. I recognized none of them. Not Helena's voice. Not Victor's. Strangers were driving me somewhere, and my own family had put me here. I don't know how long the drive

Violet POVThe smell of pancakes woke me before the sun did. For a moment, I thought I was dreaming. I lay still beneath my blanket, listening. Plates clinked together downstairs. Someone hummed softly in the kitchen. Butter sizzled on a hot pan. It had been years since this house had sounded... peaceful. I frowned. Mrs. Ellis usually prepared breakfast in silence. Curiosity pulled me out of bed. By the time I reached the dining room, I stopped so abruptly that my fingers tightened around the banister. Helena was setting the table. Not giving orders. Not criticizing anyone. Setting the table herself. She looked up as though she'd been expecting me. "There you are." Her voice was warm. Warm. I couldn't remember the last time she'd spoken to me like that. "I... didn't realize breakfast was ready." "It is now." She pulled out a chair. "Sit." I stared at her. Behind her, Ivy and Jade exchanged a quick glance before lowering their eyes. Neither of them laughed. Neither of them mad
