Chapter 1: You Just Want to Get Rid of Me

POV: Nyx

"I would rather die than marry him"

The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop myself.

Silence fell across the study and Edric Calloway didn’t flinch like what I had just said didn't matter to him.

He just kept writing.

"Three days" He said calmly, like I hadn’t just chosen death over obedience and him some seconds ago.

Like the words *you are marrying Lucian Crane* weren't the kind of words that could stop a heart cold.

My stomach twisted in shock and annoyance. Three days??

Three fucking days???

That was all the time I had left before my life stopped being mine. Before I and my life belonged to that monster.... Alpha Lucian Crane.

I stared at him from across the study. Edric Calloway. The man who collected me at four years old and called it charity. He made me pay for it every single day since. He sat behind his desk like a king, hands folded, eyes already moving back to the papers in front of him. Like I was already dismissed.

"No," I said.

He didn't look up. "It's done."

"I said NO!." My voice came out steadier than I felt. Good. Let him think I wasn't shaking. "I'm not marrying anyone in three days. I'm not marrying *him* in three days. Lucian Crane is—"

"The Alpha King." Now he looked up. Slow and patient. "The most powerful wolf alive. And he has agreed to take you."

Take me?. Like I was furniture being rehomed.

"Agreed to take me," I repeated. "Not that he wants me. Not that I have a choice but He agreed to take me."

"Watch your tone."

"My tone is the only thing in this room that's honest." I stepped closer to the desk because I couldn't stand still. Stillness felt like surrender and I had learned early that surrender meant you stopped existing. "You can't do this. You can't sell me off to the scariest man in the werewolf world because it's convenient for you."

He gave me nothing. Not even a flicker.

That was always the worst part about Edric Calloway. He didn't get angry when I pushed. He got still. Like I was a problem he had already calculated the solution to and was simply waiting for me to exhaust myself.

"You just want to get rid of me, right, Papa?" The word sat wrong in my mouth the way it always had. Papa. Like he had ever been that. "Just say it. Say it out loud, that you never wanted me, that I was always just—"

"You will go," he said. "You will go and you will be grateful."

"Grateful?" I laughed. It came out sharp and a little broken. "I curse the day God gave me to you. You know that? I curse every single day of it."

The silence that followed was two full seconds long.

Then he stood up.

I didn't move but I should have. Some part of me that still remembered being small knew I should have stepped back, dropped my eyes, made myself smaller but I didn't.

“TAHHH” The slap hit the left side of my face hard enough to snap my head sideways. I tasted blood instantly, copper flooding across my tongue from where my lip split against my teeth.

"You fucking ungrateful slut." His voice was completely calm. "You will go to Lucian Crane and you will be grateful that a man of his standing wants anything to do with a girl like you. You are nothing. You have always been nothing. He is doing you a favor."

I straightened up slowly and looked at him.

I did not cry. I had not cried in front of Edric Calloway since I was seven years old and figured out that tears were the only currency he actually enjoyed collecting. I was not going to give him that. Not today. Not ever again.

"Fine," I said. My voice didn't shake. I was almost proud of it.

I walked out.

Down the hall. Past the portrait of Ren at sixteen that hung where a portrait of me never would. Past the staircase and up it, one step at a time, my hands loose at my sides, my chin level, my face giving absolutely nothing away.

I made it to my room and I closed the door.

“AHHHHHH”.

One long, raw sound that started somewhere in my chest and came out like something that had been trapped there for years, and maybe it had been sitting right there waiting for a door to close so it could finally get out. I pressed both hands over my mouth after and stood there breathing hard through my nose, eyes burning, refusing to let the crying happen but it came out anyway. I broke down.

I slid down the door until I was sitting on the floor.

The blood on my lip had dried a little. I touched it with two fingers and looked at the smear of red there in the dim light from the window and thought about every meal where Ren was called by his name and I was called *the other one*, my birthdays that passed without a word, the way Isolde looked at me sometimes, like I was a stain on something she was trying to keep clean, the fact that I had a sharp mouth and a fast brain and I had built both of those things specifically because they were the only things no one could take from me and they had still never once been enough to make me feel like I belonged anywhere.

I sat there on the cold floor and I let myself feel all of it for exactly sixty seconds.

Then I stopped.

I pressed the back of my hand against my lip and I took a deep breath. I looked at my reflection in the dark glass of the window across the room, the girl with the torn lip, red eyes and the spine that was still straight even now, even after everything.

"Fine," I said quietly to whatever was listening. "But I don't go quietly. I never have."

I held my own gaze in the dark window.

"And Lucian Crane is about to find that out.”

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 74: The Longest Night

Elara’s pov (Limited third person)Elara sat in the hard wooden chair beside Thorne’s bed, her eyes fixed on his face. It had been two days since the ambush. Two long, exhausting days of watching him fight the poison. She had barely slept. Every time his breathing changed even a little, fear gripped her chest so tightly she could barely breathe.Thorne looked pale against the white sheets. His usual strong presence was gone, replaced by quiet vulnerability. She studied his face. The strong jaw, the faint scar above his left eyebrow, the way his hair fell across his forehead in sleep. He looked younger like this. Handsome in a way that made her heart ache. The room was quiet except for the soft sound of his breathing. The healer had left hours ago, saying the poison was under control but Thorne still needed rest and she was unsure when he would wake up. Elara had not moved from the chair. Her back ached from the hard wood, her eyes burned from crying but she stayed.Lirael was quiet in

POV: LUCIAN I stepped out of the interrogation room and the heavy door closed behind me with a dull thud. My heart was still pounding. Derek’s words kept repeating in my head. Nyx had killed Lysandra. Not by choice or with her own mind but she had done it. The horror on her face when she heard it was something I would never forget. I started walking fast down the corridor. “Nyx!” I got nothing. The halls were empty. She had run out so quickly. I checked the nearest turns, then moved faster. My boots echoed against the stone floor. I knew this estate like my own body, but right now it felt too big. Too many places she could hide. I went to the garden first. She liked it there when her mind was heavy. The moon was high, casting silver light over the paths. I scanned every bench, every shadowed corner. “Nyx, where are you?” Still I got nothing. Only the quiet rustle of leaves. I turned and headed toward her chambers. My chest felt tight. I had wanted the truth for so long bu

POV: Nyx The lantern above us swung slowly, throwing shadows that danced across the cold stone walls. We were sitting now, I sat next to Lucian in the interrogation room, my hands cold and my stomach tight waiting to hear what Derek had to say. “Start talking. Tell us everything you know about that night.” Lucian said, keeping my voice calm and low. Still dangerous. Like he didn't trust the man. Derek’s voice shook as he spoke. “We.. We were told to drug the girl to sleep inside the Calloway house. Then we took her out through the back and carried her to a small building deep in the forest area. When we brought her to the building, we were instructed to strap her down to a table. They wanted to give her a concoction right away.” I felt my body go cold. Lucian sat beside me like a wall of quiet anger. I tried to stay strong, but my hands were already trembling. “We all left Nyx in that room and left to our positions,” Derek said. “One guard was left in that room where Nyx w

NYX’s pov Dusk had settled over the estate like a heavy blanket. I walked beside Lucian down the stone corridor that led to the interrogation rooms. I had never been to this part of the estate before. The air grew colder and heavier with every step. When we reached the thick iron door, Lucian stopped and turned to me. He took my hand in his, his grip warm and firm.“If it becomes too much for you, leave,” he said quietly, his eyes searching mine. “Okay?”I squeezed his hand. “I came prepared, Lucian. I am tougher than you think. Don’t worry about me, just do what you need too.”He studied me for another second, then gave a small nod. We stepped inside together. The room was dark and quiet. Too quiet. Thick stone walls swallowed most of the sound. A single lantern hung from the ceiling, casting long, flickering shadows across the floor. In the center stood a heavy wooden chair bolted to the ground. On a table to the side lay tools meant for torture. Metal clamps, thin blades, and othe

POV: Nyx The afternoon sun warmed my skin as I sat alone in the garden, my back against the old stone bench pretending to read a book but my thoughts were somewhere else entirely. I kept thinking about Lucian and how far we had come from the day I walked down that aisle hating him, about the last night at the inn when everything between us became undone.I was not going to deny it anymore. Something real was happening between us. I could feel it every time he looked at me, every time he touched me, every time he held me like I actually mattered. I would not name it yet. I was not ready for that. But I also could not pretend it was nothing. The hate we started with had slowly turned into something warmer and deeper. Something that made heat pool low in my belly whenever he was near. Then a sudden noise pulled me out of my thoughts. Shouts. The sound of men moving quickly. It came from the left side of the estate, near the dungeon cells. I closed my book, stood up and walked in that di

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 69: The Letter

Lucian’s POV I sat at the head of the long council table with Nyx beside me. I had started bringing her to every pack meeting now. At first it was strategy. I wanted to watch her, to see if she would slip or reveal something useful. But that reason had quietly died somewhere along the way. She was smart. Sharper than most of the men sitting around this table. She asked questions that cut straight to problems I sometimes missed. And after the night we spent together at the inn, I no longer wanted distance between us. I no longer hated her. I had stopped fighting whatever this thing between us was. I just let it exist. The meeting had been dragging on for almost an hour when the door opened suddenly. A messenger stepped inside, breathing hard, his face serious.“My Lord, sorry to interrupt but it is urgent.”I turned my head and looked at Nyx. She met my eyes and gave me a small nod. That simple gesture felt natural now. I trusted her opinion. I trusted her.I stood up. “This meeting i
