Chapter 5: The Devil’s thought.

POV: LUCIAN

The door clicked shut behind her, and I stood frozen right there in the middle of my room like some idiot who had forgotten how to move.

Her scent still filled the air. Warm and complex, wrapping around me in a way that made my wolf sit up and snarl for more. I did not breathe for a long second. My jaw locked tight. My hands curled into fists so hard the knuckles ached.

Seven fucking years. Seven years since anything hit me this hard.

she smelt.. not like Lysandra. Not exactly the same. But close enough to tear open every scar I had stitched shut with pure rage and stubborn will.

I could still picture Nyx standing there in that scrap of ivory lingerie. Shoulders back, chin up, refusing to shrink even an inch. Those full curves and breasts on full display, skin flushed hot, eyes locked on mine with fear flickering behind the cold wall she tried to hide behind. She looked ready to fight the whole damn world rather than apologize for existing.

My wolf lunged hard toward the door. Wanting to track her scent down the hall. Wanting her. The pull felt sharp and specific, nothing like the cold plan I had laid out. I slammed it back down with every bit of Alpha control I had forged since I was seventeen.

"Enough," I growled under my breath.

The word came out rough. More animal than man. I hated the sound of it.

I crossed the room and dropped into the chair at my desk. Her file waited there. Thin black folder with her name printed neat on the tab.

Nyx.

I flipped it open. Stared at the first page without really seeing the words.

She smelled like courage wrapped tight around terror. The exact way Lysandra used to mask her fear behind steel and quiet strength. Same tilt of the chin. Same refusal to break even when everything around her was already shattered.

And my body had cataloged every damn detail before my brain could stop it. The way that lingerie clung to her. The soft rise of her breasts with every careful breath. The small cut on her lower lip that made something dark and hungry twist low in my gut.

I slammed the file shut.

She killed the woman you loved.

The thought sliced through me clean and cold. The same reminder I had repeated like a prayer every single day for seven years.

I opened the file again. My eyes landed on the drawing of her clipped inside. Sharp features. Dark wavy hair. Eyes staring straight like she dared whoever took it to try her.

My wolf whined low in my chest and pushed again. Harder this time.

I shoved it back down with everything I had. The same iron control that had kept me breathing when grief tried to swallow me whole.

I could still feel the heat of her body from when I had pulled her close earlier. She had not flinched away. Not really. She just met my stare like she would burn right along with me if that was what it took.

I hated how badly I wanted to test that fire.

"She's here for one reason," I said out loud. My voice came out flat and precise. The voice I used when I needed to remind myself who the fuck I was. "She killed Lysandra. Everything else is noise. She suffers. Then she ends."

The words tasted like ash in my mouth.

My wolf did not give a damn about my rules. It wanted her scent again. Wanted to follow it down the hall. Wanted to know exactly how that warmth would feel pressed tight against my chest.

I shoved up from the chair fast. The legs scraped loud against the floor.

I paced across the room once. Stopped and paced back.

That image of her in the lingerie flashed again. Uninvited. The defiant set of her mouth. The way her body curved under that thin fabric. The slight cut on her lip that made me want lean down and kiss it.

I stopped at the desk. Snapped the file closed.

Opened it again.

Closed it.

"Fuck."

I walked over to the tall window and stared out into the night. The estate grounds lay dark and quiet below. Moonlight cut silver across the trees. Somewhere out there she was walking back to whatever room they had put her in.

I kept staring into the black.

Her name sat heavy on my tongue. Unwanted and dangerous.

I said it anyway. Quiet. Just once.

"Nyx."

It settled in my mouth like it belonged there. Like it had been waiting years to be spoken out loud.

Rage flooded through me hot and fast.

I was already losing the war I had declared the second she stepped foot in my territory. And I had not even started the real fight yet.

I closed the file one last time. The sharp click echoed in the silent room.

But my eyes stayed fixed on the window. On the dark. On the path she had taken.

And the wolf inside me kept pushing. Kept pulling. Kept whispering that this broken bride might just ruin me in ways I had never planned for.

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 111: The Game He Wanted

POV: Kane Thorne looked at me differently now. Small things he did gave it away. He used to meet my eyes straight on when he walked into a room but now his gaze slid past me first, landed on anywhere surrounding me, before it came back to my face. That’s a soldier's habit. He thought he was hiding it. He wasn't good enough to hide it from me. Lucian was worse, in the way that mattered more. His warmth toward me had gone cold by exact degrees, day over day, like a man rationing something he used to give freely. He still introduced me as uncle in front of the others. The old habit from when he was a boy trying to earn my approval. But I noticed how he behaved awkwardly towards me. I notice everything. That was when I knew that my plan had hatched out. They knew who I was behind the scenes. They thought they'd found me on their own not knowing I let them. The route Thorne asked me about weeks ago, I had waved it off as dead and told him not to waste time on it, but the thing they

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 110: The name behind the Voice

POV: LucianAfter reviewing the legders Thorne gave to me few days ago, I decided to test Kane myself. I gave him a name that didn't exist, just to watch what he'd do with it. It was a contact in the eastern territories that I invented on the spot and dropped into the middle of a meeting. He nodded and filed it away. He kept talking like it meant nothing. Three days later that same name walked back through my own front door, carried by a scout who swore he'd pulled it from inside Kane's network, from a source that had never once spoken to me directly. There was only one place that name could have started.I read the report twice before I let myself believe it."One day," Thorne said, when I finally handed it to him. "It came back to us a full day before your scout should have had it, going through the normal channels.""Could be nothing.""Could be." He watched my face longer than he needed to. "But you don't believe that."I didn't answer him, because saying it out loud would have m

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 109: The Reluctant Ally

Lucian’ Pov Thorne came to me late in the evening carrying a thin file under his arm. His face stayed calm but I knew him well enough to see the weight behind his eyes. He set the file on the table between us and sat down. "I found something worth checking," he said. His voice stayed even. "Nothing certain. Just a detail that does not line up the way it should." I opened the file. The ledger page Kane had brought us sat on top. Next to it were notes from the old border logs. Thorne had marked two entries. One name and one route. Both appeared in the ledger as new discoveries and had shown up in our own records weeks earlier. Kane had mentioned the name in passing. He had called the route dead-ended and told us to look elsewhere. I read the notes twice. The overlap was there. It was small and easy to miss if you were not looking for it. My stomach tightened. I had brought Kane into our circle. I had listened to his advice. I had trusted the information he gave us because it helped

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 108: The Moon Owes Us

Soren's POV (third person pov)Soren stood at the edge of the circle as the lamp burned low in the center. The air felt thick with the herbs they burned each night. He had been part of the group for three years now. Long enough to know the words by heart and to believe them deep in his bones. The leader spoke from the center. His voice stayed calm and steady. "The moon gave us her power once. She chose the old bloodlines to carry it. Nyx Crane holds what should have been ours. She took it without understanding and she woke it without offering it back."Soren nodded with the rest. He had heard the story many times. The moon had spoken through dreams in the beginning. She had shown the first followers how the power moved through certain families. The bloodlines were meant to serve as vessels. To share the gift with those who kept the old ways yet Nyx's line had broken the promise. They had hidden the power saying they were protecting the people. Saying that the kind of power they hold c

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 107: Suspicious old pages

Thorne’s POV (THIRD PERSON LIMITED) Thorne stayed in the records room after the others had gone. The lamp burned low. He resumed reviewing legders that kane had given. The ledger page Kane gave them stayed on one side of the table and the registry copy on the other. He had read both before but not like this. The first time he had been grateful for the help. He had moved quickly because the names and routes had seemed useful right away. Now he read them slowly because of the abnormality he saw the last time. He wanted to see what he had missed when he was in a hurry. He started with the ledger page. Kane had said it came from old records buried before the Reformation. It listed routes the Silver Voice once used to move funds. Thorne traced one line with his finger. A supply path that ran near the river bend and then cut toward the old forest trail. The page marked it as active one year ago. He turned to the registry. The same path appeared there under an older entry. The dates line

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 106: The Man in the Dark

Eldric pov They came for me on the fourty-third day. I had stopped counting the exact hours but I knew the number. The cell had no window. Only a small slot in the door where food came twice a day. The man who brought it never spoke to me. He set the tray down and left. I only ate because I had to and my body needed strength even when my mind did not want it. I had been in this place since the day I escaped the execution. The people who pulled me out did not tell me their names. They only dragged me to this cell and locked the door. At first I thought they were allies. Then I realized I was not a guest. I was kept here until someone decided otherwise. My clothes smelled of damp stone. My wrists still carried the marks from the chains they used at the start. They removed the chains after the first week but the feeling still stayed. When the door opened this time two men stood there. They did not speak either. One carried a cloth bag and threw it at my feet. Clean clothes. Si
