POV: LUCIAN

The door clicked shut behind her, and I stood frozen right there in the middle of my room like some idiot who had forgotten how to move.

Her scent still filled the air. Warm and complex, wrapping around me in a way that made my wolf sit up and snarl for more. I did not breathe for a long second. My jaw locked tight. My hands curled into fists so hard the knuckles ached.

Seven fucking years. Seven years since anything hit me this hard.

she smelt.. not like Lysandra. Not exactly the same. But close enough to tear open every scar I had stitched shut with pure rage and stubborn will.

I could still picture Nyx standing there in that scrap of ivory lingerie. Shoulders back, chin up, refusing to shrink even an inch. Those full curves and breasts on full display, skin flushed hot, eyes locked on mine with fear flickering behind the cold wall she tried to hide behind. She looked ready to fight the whole damn world rather than apologize for existing.

My wolf lunged hard toward the door. Wanting to track her scent down the hall. Wanting her. The pull felt sharp and specific, nothing like the cold plan I had laid out. I slammed it back down with every bit of Alpha control I had forged since I was seventeen.

"Enough," I growled under my breath.

The word came out rough. More animal than man. I hated the sound of it.

I crossed the room and dropped into the chair at my desk. Her file waited there. Thin black folder with her name printed neat on the tab.

Nyx.

I flipped it open. Stared at the first page without really seeing the words.

She smelled like courage wrapped tight around terror. The exact way Lysandra used to mask her fear behind steel and quiet strength. Same tilt of the chin. Same refusal to break even when everything around her was already shattered.

And my body had cataloged every damn detail before my brain could stop it. The way that lingerie clung to her. The soft rise of her breasts with every careful breath. The small cut on her lower lip that made something dark and hungry twist low in my gut.

I slammed the file shut.

She killed the woman you loved.

The thought sliced through me clean and cold. The same reminder I had repeated like a prayer every single day for seven years.

I opened the file again. My eyes landed on the drawing of her clipped inside. Sharp features. Dark wavy hair. Eyes staring straight like she dared whoever took it to try her.

My wolf whined low in my chest and pushed again. Harder this time.

I shoved it back down with everything I had. The same iron control that had kept me breathing when grief tried to swallow me whole.

I could still feel the heat of her body from when I had pulled her close earlier. She had not flinched away. Not really. She just met my stare like she would burn right along with me if that was what it took.

I hated how badly I wanted to test that fire.

"She's here for one reason," I said out loud. My voice came out flat and precise. The voice I used when I needed to remind myself who the fuck I was. "She killed Lysandra. Everything else is noise. She suffers. Then she ends."

The words tasted like ash in my mouth.

My wolf did not give a damn about my rules. It wanted her scent again. Wanted to follow it down the hall. Wanted to know exactly how that warmth would feel pressed tight against my chest.

I shoved up from the chair fast. The legs scraped loud against the floor.

I paced across the room once. Stopped and paced back.

That image of her in the lingerie flashed again. Uninvited. The defiant set of her mouth. The way her body curved under that thin fabric. The slight cut on her lip that made me want lean down and kiss it.

I stopped at the desk. Snapped the file closed.

Opened it again.

Closed it.

"Fuck."

I walked over to the tall window and stared out into the night. The estate grounds lay dark and quiet below. Moonlight cut silver across the trees. Somewhere out there she was walking back to whatever room they had put her in.

I kept staring into the black.

Her name sat heavy on my tongue. Unwanted and dangerous.

I said it anyway. Quiet. Just once.

"Nyx."

It settled in my mouth like it belonged there. Like it had been waiting years to be spoken out loud.

Rage flooded through me hot and fast.

I was already losing the war I had declared the second she stepped foot in my territory. And I had not even started the real fight yet.

I closed the file one last time. The sharp click echoed in the silent room.

But my eyes stayed fixed on the window. On the dark. On the path she had taken.

And the wolf inside me kept pushing. Kept pulling. Kept whispering that this broken bride might just ruin me in ways I had never planned for.

  • BOUND BY REVENGE: The Alpha King's broken bride    Chapter 80: The Truth

POV: Nyx The lantern above us swung slowly, throwing shadows that danced across the cold stone walls. We were sitting now, I sat next to Lucian in the interrogation room, my hands cold and my stomach tight waiting to hear what Derek had to say. “Start talking. Tell us everything you know about that night.” Lucian said, keeping my voice calm and low. Still dangerous. Like he didn't trust the man. Derek’s voice shook as he spoke. “We.. We were told to drug the girl to sleep inside the Calloway house. Then we took her out through the back and carried her to a small building deep in the forest area. When we brought her to the building, we were instructed to strap her down to a table. They wanted to give her a concoction right away.”I felt my body go cold. Lucian sat beside me like a wall of quiet anger. I tried to stay strong, but my hands were already trembling.“We all left Nyx in that room and left to our positions,” Derek said. “One guard was left in that room where Nyx was. To k

NYX’s pov Dusk had settled over the estate like a heavy blanket. I walked beside Lucian down the stone corridor that led to the interrogation rooms. I had never been to this part of the estate before. The air grew colder and heavier with every step. When we reached the thick iron door, Lucian stopped and turned to me. He took my hand in his, his grip warm and firm.“If it becomes too much for you, leave,” he said quietly, his eyes searching mine. “Okay?”I squeezed his hand. “I came prepared, Lucian. I am tougher than you think. Don’t worry about me, just do what you need too.”He studied me for another second, then gave a small nod. We stepped inside together. The room was dark and quiet. Too quiet. Thick stone walls swallowed most of the sound. A single lantern hung from the ceiling, casting long, flickering shadows across the floor. In the center stood a heavy wooden chair bolted to the ground. On a table to the side lay tools meant for torture. Metal clamps, thin blades, and othe

POV: Nyx The afternoon sun warmed my skin as I sat alone in the garden, my back against the old stone bench pretending to read a book but my thoughts were somewhere else entirely. I kept thinking about Lucian and how far we had come from the day I walked down that aisle hating him, about the last night at the inn when everything between us became undone.I was not going to deny it anymore. Something real was happening between us. I could feel it every time he looked at me, every time he touched me, every time he held me like I actually mattered. I would not name it yet. I was not ready for that. But I also could not pretend it was nothing. The hate we started with had slowly turned into something warmer and deeper. Something that made heat pool low in my belly whenever he was near. Then a sudden noise pulled me out of my thoughts. Shouts. The sound of men moving quickly. It came from the left side of the estate, near the dungeon cells. I closed my book, stood up and walked in that di

Lucian’s POV I sat at the head of the long council table with Nyx beside me. I had started bringing her to every pack meeting now. At first it was strategy. I wanted to watch her, to see if she would slip or reveal something useful. But that reason had quietly died somewhere along the way. She was smart. Sharper than most of the men sitting around this table. She asked questions that cut straight to problems I sometimes missed. And after the night we spent together at the inn, I no longer wanted distance between us. I no longer hated her. I had stopped fighting whatever this thing between us was. I just let it exist. The meeting had been dragging on for almost an hour when the door opened suddenly. A messenger stepped inside, breathing hard, his face serious.“My Lord, sorry to interrupt but it is urgent.”I turned my head and looked at Nyx. She met my eyes and gave me a small nod. That simple gesture felt natural now. I trusted her opinion. I trusted her.I stood up. “This meeting i

POV: Elara(Third person limited) The ride to the infirmary felt endless. Forty minutes of pure fear. When they finally burst through the doors, the healers took one look at the black tipped arrow and moved fast. Elara sat in the hard wooden chair in the corridor, anxiously locking and unlocking her palms into fist. it was either that or she paced around like an insane person. She stared at the closed door of the infirmary room as they would not let her inside while the healer worked. She understood why, but it did not make the waiting any easier. Three hours had passed. Three long, terrible hours. She had not stopped crying. The tears came quietly now, sliding down her cheeks without a sound. She no longer tried to wipe them away. Linn sat at the far end of the corridor, giving her space. He did not look at her, and she was grateful for that small kindness. She kept her hands clasped tightly in her lap, with her legs shaking, trying to hold herself together.Every minute felt like

POV: Elara (Third person POV) The attack came without warning. One moment the road was quiet, nothing but the steady sound of hooves and the wind through the trees. The next moment, the forest on both sides came alive. At least ten attackers burst out from the shadows, swords and bows ready, moving like they had planned this exact spot for hours.“Ambush!” Thorne shouted.Thorne moved fast to protect Derek’s horse, keeping the prisoner from bolting in the chaos. Elara pulled her daggers free in one smooth motion. Her heart slammed against her ribs as she kicked her horse forward and took the left flank. She had trained for fighting since she was fourteen. Her body knew what to do even when her mind was still catching up.The first attacker came at her fast. She met his blade with a hard clash, twisted her wrist, and drove her dagger into his side. He fell with a grunt. Another man rushed her from the side. She blocked, spun, and kicked him square in the chest, sending him stumbling b
