KATHERINE

I watched him walk away until he was a small speck at the end of the long stone corridor, and then I turned back toward the archives. I wasn't going to be deterred by his fake sympathy or his warnings about Stephen. I had a job to do. My family deserved the truth, and if the evidence was buried in this room, I was going to find it.

I pulled out the master key Stephen had given me. My hands were a bit shaky, but I managed to slot the metal into the lock. It turned with a heavy click,

KATHERINE I stepped out of the storage room directly across from the archives, a satisfied smile playing on my lips. It was a good thing I hadn't left right after our little run-in. I had waited in the dark, and my patience had paid off.Leona had come back. She was meticulous and careful, but she was also desperate. Seeing her return to that specific spot confirmed everything I suspected. Whatever she was trying to hide or find in those drawers had to be important. Leona followed a strict schedule every day, and she had absolutely no reason to be hanging around the dusty archives, unless her father had sent her.My brain started connecting the dots immediately. What if she was here to scrub their history? It made perfect sense. Stephen was gone, the guards were few, and the palace was quiet. This was the best time for them to move, and they knew it just as well as I did. If Leona was acting on orders to hide their traces, then Mira’s warnings were more than just the ramblings of a b

LEONAI stormed out of the archives, my heels clicking loudly against the floor. I didn't stop until I reached my own wing of the palace and I realized I was shaking."Damn it!" I hissed.A few maids standing near the pillars jumped at the sound of my voice. They stared at me with wide, stupid eyes."What are you looking at?" I snarled, stepping toward them. "Get back to work before I have you all thrown out of the gates!"They scrambled away immediately, nearly tripping over their long skirts. I pushed past the heavy oak doors of my personal chambers and slammed them shut behind me. I needed to think, but my mind was a mess of anger and fear.Being caught by Katherine was a disaster. Of all the people in this wretched palace, it had to be her. That pathetic, silver-eyed girl who had no business holding the keys to anything.I sat on the edge of my bed, my fingers digging into the silk sheets. I blamed my father for this. He was the one who told me to go down there. And I blamed that

My hands were a bit shaky, but I managed to slot the metal into the lock. It turned with a heavy click, and I pushed the door open just enough to slip inside. I closed it behind me quickly, not wanting any passing guards to notice the light from the hallway spilling into the room. The archive was massive. It was a labyrinth of tall wooden shelves that reached all the way to the ceiling, packed with thousands of folders and leather-bound ledgers. I knew the most important documents were kept deep inside, in the back layers where the light barely reached.I started walking deeper into the room, my f

KATHERINE The sun was setting and I stood by the large window in my room, watching the courtyard below. Stephen was ready to leave. He was dressed in his dark tactical gear, and the royal guards were lined up behind him. Rowan was there too, looking sharp and disciplined as the commander of the guards. Most of the elite force was going with them, leaving only a small number behind to watch the palace.I watched Stephen give a final nod to his men before he climbed into the back of a black SUV. He had told me earlier that the trip to Oslo would take around three days, but I didn't think he was just going for meetings. Based on the gear they were carrying, I guessed they were planning to hit one of the Borderland rogue hideouts. The thought made my stomach tight, but I didn't turn away until the last car disappeared past the p iron gates.I stood there for a long time, staring at the empty road. The palace felt different already. It was too quiet. I reached out and closed the heavy cur

  • BOUND TO THE ALPHA KING   CHAPTER 76

KATHERINEI had been back at the pack grounds for a few days, but the atmosphere felt different than before. Everything was quiet and tense. I hadn't really seen Stephen since we returned from Oslo because he was constantly busy. He spent all his time in meetings or on the phone, trying to mitigate the effects of the ambush. The attack on the human king had caused a massive political mess, and Stephen was right in the middle of fixing it. Today was the first time since we got back that he actually reached out to me. He sent a maid to my room to fetch me, saying he wanted to speak in his office. As I made my way through the stone hallways, my mind started to wander. I couldn't say I had moved on from what happened in that hall, but I was getting there. I wasn't crying every hour anymore. Instead, the sadness was being replaced by something else. What resonated in my mind the most were the words Mira had whispered right before she bit her cheek an

ALARICI stood on the little forested hill that overlooked the castle. It was nearly a kilometer away, but I could see the chaos perfectly. The flames were licking at the night sky and the sounds of sirens reached my ears. People were yelling and running in every direction down there. I couldn't help but smile as I watched the results of my efforts. It was a beautiful sight to see such a secure place fall apart so quickly. However, my smile didn't last long. I looked closer at the gates and realized that the main objective had failed. I felt a frown pull at my lips and I let out a heavy sigh, annoyed by the lack of completion. I had given the borderland rogues a simple task, but the human king was still very much alive. Even worse, Stephen hadn't been injured. Not even a scratch as far as I could tell. My plans were meant to be more effective than this, and losing a fighter like Mira made the whole thing feel like a waste of resources.Right then, there was a sharp whooshing sound in

I kept replaying her face when I scolded her, the way her jaw tightened, the way she tried not to react, and it had affected my wolf more than I wanted to admit. He didn’t like it.
