MasukChapter Three
Harper
I stared at Pedro, my heart doing frantic somersaults in my chest. "Your mate? That is impossible. I was married to Elec for three years. If there was a bond, I would have felt it."
Pedro leaned even closer, his shadow swallowing me whole. "Elec is a fool who wouldnt know a fated bond if it tore his throat out. I have spent years waiting for a scent that didn't make me want to burn the world down. Then I found you, face down on the pavement in the rain."
I shivered, the heat from his body radiating off him in waves. "I don't understand. The bond... it just happened?"
"It snapped into place the second my skin touched yours,"Pedro whispered, his voice vibrating with a raw, dangerous hunger.
"My wolf hasn't stopped howling since I brought you into this house. It is deafening."
I looked away, my hand instinctively flat against my stomach. He cannot know,If he finds out Im carrying the heir of his rival, he will throw me back into the street. Or worse.
"You look like hell, Harper,"Pedro said suddenly, his tone shifting back to that cold, arrogant edge Id heard about in the news. He straightened up and looked toward the door. "Mina! Sara! Get in here."
Two young women in crisp uniforms hurried into the room, bowing low.
"Clean her up,"Pedro commanded, not even looking at them. "She smells like Elecs cheap cologne and failure. Scrub it off. I want her smelling like herself when I come back."
"Yes, Alpha,"the maids whispered in unison.
I felt a flush of humiliation creep up my neck. "You don't have to be so rude. Ive had a very long night."
Pedro turned at the door, his golden eyes flashing. "And Ive had a very long life waiting for a mate who wasn't a corpse. Youre lucky Im the one who found you and not one of the scavengers looking for a piece of the Gerald fallout."
"How do you even know about that?"I asked, my voice trembling.
Pedro pulled a thin tablet from the dresser and tossed it onto the bed. "It is everywhere, Harper. Every gossip rag from London to Paris is talking about the Alpha of the Gerald Pack dumping his 'human' wife for his true mate. There are even videos of you being thrown out of the gates."
I looked down at the screen. My heart shattered all over again. There it was. A grainy video of me stumbling in the rain, my suitcase bursting open while Elec stood in the background with his arm around Vespa. The comments were even worse.
Finally, he got rid of the dead weight.Vespa is way more of a Luna than that girl ever was.
I choked back a sob, the digital humiliation feeling like a physical weight on my lungs.
"Don't waste your tears on a man who used you as a placeholder,"Pedro barked. "Go. Wash. Ill be in the study."
He stormed out, the door slamming behind him with a finality that made me jump.
The maids were surprisingly gentle. They led me to a bathroom that was larger than my entire old apartment. They filled a marble tub with oils that smelled of jasmine and honey. They scrubbed the grime of the street from my skin, but they couldn't scrub away the feeling of Elecs betrayal.
When I was finally dressed in a soft, silk slip dress they provided, I walked out into the main bedroom. Pedro was standing by the window, his back to me. His shirt was off now, and I could see the ink across his shoulders. Dragons, wolves, and ancient runes covered his skin, moving as he breathed.
"Im done,"I said softly.
He turned around, and the air in the room instantly became heavy. His eyes weren't gold anymore. They were almost black. His chest was heaving, and I could see a fine sheen of sweat on his forehead.
"Pedro?"I stepped back, my wolf senses—what little I had—screaming at me to run. "What is wrong?"
"The scent,"he groaned, his voice sounding more like a beast than a man. He moved across the room with terrifying speed, pinning me against the wall before I could even blink.
His hands slammed into the plaster on either side of my head. He buried his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling so deeply it sounded like a growl.
"Stop,"I whispered, my heart hammering. "Youre scaring me."
"I am in my rut, Harper,"he rasped against my skin, his teeth grazing my pulse point. "And having my fated mate in my house, smelling like jasmine and heat... it is testing every bit of my sanity."
I felt the heat from his body searing through my thin dress. "You need to let me go."
"I should,"he growled, his hands sliding down the wall to grip my waist, his fingers digging into my hips. "I should lock you in another wing and wait for the fever to break. But my wolf wants to mark you. He wants to claim what Elec was too stupid to keep."
He pulled back just enough to look me in the eyes. The raw, primal desire in his gaze was intoxicating. I knew I should push him away. I knew I should tell him about the baby. But for the first time in three years, I felt like someone actually wantedme. Not as a prop. Not as a deal. But as a woman.
"Pedro..."I breathed.
"Im trying to be a gentleman, Harper,"he said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, low rumble. "But you need to stop looking at me like that before I lose the last bit of self-control I have left."
He leaned in, his lips a breath away from mine. I could feel the vibration of his growl in my own chest.
"Tell me to stop,"he demanded. "Tell me right now, or Im going to make you mine."
I opened my mouth to speak, but the words died in my throat. I didn't want him to stop.
Just as his lips touched mine, the heavy scent of his power shifted. He froze, his nose moving slightly against my cheek. His eyes snapped wide, and he pulled back, staring at my stomach with a look of sudden, piercing realization.
"What is that?"he whispered, his voice turning deathly quiet.
My heart stopped. "What is what?"
Pedros hand moved from my waist, his palm hovering just over my womb. His eyes searched mine, the golden fire returning with a vengeance.
"There is another heartbeat, Harper,"he growled, his face twisting into a mask of pure, unadulterated rage.
"Whose pup are you carrying?"
CHAPTER 75PEDROI said nothing for a few seconds after Harper asked if I would stop Elec from taking his child, because there were too many thoughts fighting inside my head at once. I could still feel the warmth of her hand in mine, and I could see the fear she was trying to hide behind her tired eyes. She had already been abandoned by the man who should have protected her, and I refused to become another man who made promises only to break them when things became difficult. I tightened my fingers around hers and looked directly into her eyes before finally giving her the answer she needed. Whatever happened next, I would not allow Elec to walk into Nightfall and take anything from her.“Elec has no right to come here and take anyone under my protection,” I said finally and firmly. “It doesn't matter if the child carries his blood. If he wants to reach you, he will have to come through me first.”Harper watched me carefully, as though she was trying to decide whether my words were re
CHAPTER 74HARPERI could not sleep that night, no matter how many times I closed my eyes and pulled the blanket over my head. Every time I started to drift away, I heard the sound of the bedroom door shaking again, followed by the deep voice of the stranger asking who I was and why I was living inside Pedro's pack house. I could still feel his hand around my arm, and I could still remember the fear that had rushed through me when he blocked the window and took the baton from my hand. But the worst part was not the attack itself, because what truly frightened me was the fact that he already knew I mattered to Pedro. He had not looked at me like a random woman he had found inside a room; he had looked at me like someone he had been sent to find.I turned onto my side and stared at the darkness, pressing one hand against my stomach without even thinking about it. My baby was still so small, yet it already seemed to be at the center of a storm that I had never asked for. Elec did not eve
CHAPTER 73PEDROI stood in the middle of the underground room, staring at the dead attacker while the anger inside me continued to burn hotter instead of cooling down. I had expected his confession to give me some peace, but it did the opposite because now I knew that Elec had sent men into my territory, into my home, and straight toward Harper. The thought made my wolf snarl so loudly inside my head that I had to clench my fists to keep myself from destroying something. I looked at the guards standing around the body and gave them a cold order before turning toward Martin, who was already watching me carefully. I was done treating this as a simple attack because someone had crossed too many lines tonight.“Take the body away and put out a search once more,” I ordered. “I want every piece of information you can get from him, even if you think it means nothing.”Martin nodded.“Yes, Alpha.”“And I want a full investigation started immediately,” I continued, turning toward him. “The ro
CHAPTER 72PEDROThe captive before me wailed again as I snapped his fingers, and the sound bounced off the stone walls of the underground room before dying somewhere in the dark corners. His body shook violently against the chair, but he still refused to speak, even though wolfsbane had been forced into his system and his healing had completely stopped. One of his fingers remained wrapped in a bloody cloth while the others lay uselessly beside him, and yet the bastard looked at me with nothing but stubborn silence. Even my father, who had spent decades dealing with enemies and traitors, looked uncomfortable as he watched me, while Martin stood nearby with his arms crossed and his jaw tight. I could feel my patience disappearing with every second that passed, and my wolf was already scratching at the inside of my skin, begging me to tear the truth out of the man myself.“You have one chance left,” I said quietly, leaning toward him. “Tell me who sent you.”The man only breathed heavil
CHAPTER 71HARPERI paced around Pedro’s bedroom for what felt like hours, even though it could not have been more than a few minutes since he had left. My heart had refused to calm down after hearing the first explosion outside, and every time another loud sound shook the walls, my body jumped before I could stop it. I tried to look through the tall windows, hoping to see what was happening outside, but the angle was terrible, and all I could see were parts of the courtyard and the dark trees beyond it. Somewhere far below, men were shouting orders, wolves were growling, and every now and then there was another loud boom that made the glass tremble in its frame."Pedro," I whispered, walking toward the window again.I pressed my hands against the cold glass and tried to see through the darkness, but there was too much smoke and movement outside. A group of guards rushed across the courtyard, their weapons drawn, while another group disappeared around the side of the building. I could
Harper’s pov But I also couldn’t put my rut at bay. Even just thinking about her made desire stir within me, hot and insistent, pulling at the edges of my control like a chain about to snap. The meeting with the Council had left me wired, the temporary stamp burning a hole in my pocket, but my body had other priorities. I needed her. I grabbed a cup of coffee from the kitchen, the bitter liquid doing little to calm the fire in my veins, and made my way to her suite. I found Harper asleep in her room, curled up on the bed like she belonged there. I sat on the couch across from her, sipping the coffee slowly, watching the steady rise and fall of her chest. My mind wouldn’t rest. It kept circling back to Elec and the child she carried—his child. How would that affect my future? The fate of my bloodline? I’d bought myself some time with the High Council, but that time would eventually run out. If I didn’t figure out a solution before then, I might end up losing my territory. I’d have t

Chapter 5Harper’s povIt took me about 10 seconds to realize what Quinton, Pedro’s father had just implied. A tiny whimper left my lips and I clamped my mouth shut. A breeder?Of course I was nothing but a lowly omega but I had never thought I would be forced to only breed for an alpha. I could

Chapter TwoHarper My hands shook so violently I dropped the zipper of my suitcase.I stared at my blurred reflection in the mirror. Tears streamed down my cheeks, hot and bitter. Three years. I had given Alpha Elec Gerald my absolute soul, and he discarded me like garbage on the side of the road.
