The Callahan mansion was quiet when Noah walked in.

Too quiet.

He was drenched. Exhausted. His suit stuck to his skin. His hair dripping.

The study door stood open. Light spilling out.

He stopped. Something felt wrong.

Both parents sat in the sitting room. Waiting.

Eleanor on the velvet chair. Perfectly composed. Face like ice.

Thomas standing by the fireplace. Jaw tight. Hands behind his back.

Noah's stomach dropped.

They knew.

"Come in, Noah." Thomas's voice was calm. Too calm.
