Iris's POV

I sat by my mother's bedside, filled with worry. She looked so pale and fragile, and she coughed profusely. Lucian sat by my side, and it felt comforting that he was here. To be honest, I didn't expect him to follow me here.

My mother had employed a maid, and it was she who called to inform me of my mother's illness. Her name was Maya, and she was by the bedside, tending to my mother.

With the look in her eyes, I could tell that her relationship with my mother was closer than employer-employee. The doctor had just left, after dropping off drugs to be taken. Even the doctor didn't know what was wrong with her; he just provided drugs to manage the illness and ease her pain a bit.

"Iris, you're here." My mother said, as her eyes were half-opened. Her voice was weak.

"Yes, Mama." I held her hands.

"I don't have much time, but before I die, you need to know something. It saddens me that you must hear it this way, on such an occasion." She smiled sadly.
