My father kicked me again, and again. “No daughter of mine would've been so completely useless. All you have brought us is shame and embarrassment. Enough. I've arranged your marriage with the Lycan King. He'll come for you tomorrow and I'll finally be rid of you” “W-what? The Beast Lycan?” I stuttered, my fathers words hit me like a block of ice. “Precisely. He could kill you like his other wives for all I care. Good riddance” My father looked at me one last time, his eyes filled with disgusted contempt before he walked out of the house. ~~~ Iris is hated on by her pack and her father. Stuck between two men and an origin she knows nothing about, what decision will she make?
View MoreThe room was filled with guests of different calibres. Everyone had rushed at the chance to finally get a good look at the beast lycan. The thought of it humoured me.
I stood in a corner with a champagne glass observing it all. I started to grow weary so I decided to leave the main party for a while.
I made my way out of the sprawling mansion and into the gardens. I'd barely moved when I felt a hand grab onto me. I turned around, startled and my eyes locked on his.
The man who had caused me so much pain.
“Iris, it's you…” His voice voice softer, more tender than I remembered. It my chest ache for some reason.
It had been months since I last saw Jacob, the last time I'd set my eyes on him, he'd humiliated me and rejected me as his mate. Seeing him again brought back a rush of old feelings which I thought I'd buried.
“Jacob… W-what are you doing here?”
“I had to come see you, after I found out your father married you off and to such a beast of a man, I couldn't stop thinking about you… this was my only chance to see you again”
His words surprised me, the ingenuity and the way he looked into my eyes. I wished he'd looked at me that way months ago; then, perhaps I wouldn't be here.
“I… I don't understand what you mean Jacob, why would you care about me because you made it crystal clear that you don't actually”
He let go of me as he ran his hands through his hair, seemingly exasperated.
“I know Iris, I know, I messed up. What I did to you was awful… but rejecting you as my mate was the worst decision I've ever made”
I felt a tug in my chest, my heartbeat quickened as he spoke.
“I want you back Iris, please come back with me”
“It's too late for that, Jacob. You rejected me and humiliated me in front of everyone… I can't go back to a pack that related me so cruelly” I tried to sound firm but my heart was breaking.
The man I'd loved finally felt the same way about me but I couldn't… I just couldn't… not anymore.
“And how does he treat you?” Jacob questioned as I turned to leave, stopping me in my tracks.
I knew he was referring to the beast Lycan. He was the man my father had married me off to and he had an awful reputation.
“That doesn't matter… he's my husband. I'm a married woman, Jacob, so leave me alone”
“Does he hurt you?” Jacob held me again as he stared into my eyes, searching for something… an answer… the truth but he didn't deserve to know.
“Jacob, leave me alone,” I said with a tone of finality as I shook him off and walked back into the party.
The bright lights made my vision feel hazy and weak as I stumbled through the guests.
I could hear Jacob calling after me but I chose to ignore him.
He couldn't just change his mind as he pleased and expect that I'd be willing to jump into his open arms.
Jacob soon grabbed onto me and I froze… No, not in front of everyone, not when he'd be able to see me.
“Jacob… l-let go of me. Everyone's here”
“I don't care, all I care about is you. Just hear me out, Iris”
I tried to rip his hand off me but it didn't work. He pulled me in closer to me, and he whispered in my ear; his warm breath on my neck sent involuntary chills throughout my body. For a moment, I forgot where we were.
“I know I hurt you, Iris, and for that, I am so very sorry. But since you left, you have no idea how I've pined for you each and every single minute of every day. I couldn't stop thinking about you… Come back with me, give me a chance to make things right”
Jacob was the stable beautiful life I'd always dreamed of… but that was all it was. Dreams… I'd come to face the real world and it was the opposite.
“I'm married”
“Do you love him?”
I looked up at Jacob, his question catching me off guard.
“If you tell me right now that you love him and you're happy with him, I'll leave. I promise you”
Did I love my husband?
I didn't have an answer to that question yet.
I was about to speak again when I heard everyone in the crowd go silent. I didn't even have to look to know he had entered the room.
His aura was so powerful and intense, I felt it in every breath I took. I couldn't let him see me with Jacob.
“Jacob, Jacob… you have to let me go now” I whispered sharply.
“Answer me first”
I looked towards him as he approached us, his cold blue eyes had already locked on me the moment he entered. I let out a sigh, anticipating what was to come.
“Unhand my wife” His voice came out like a low growl as he came up behind me and wrapped his hand around my waist.
Jacob looked up at him, an unreadable expression on his face.
“We were just talking”
“And I'm here now, so leave”
Jacob stared at me longingly for a second longer and I felt my husband pulling me on even closer. He was jealous, I knew that for a fact. And I also knew he would do something crazy because of it.
He guided me through the crowd to the staircase which served as a podium. I stood beside him as he addressed the crowd, all the while, Jacobs's words replayed in my head.
“And now… I introduce to you all, my mate” I heard him say as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I looked around at all the people staring at me and I began to feel uncomfortable. In the midst of the crowd, my eyes locked on Jacobs.
My husband pulled me closer with a strange look in his eyes
“W-what are you doing?”
“I'm marking what is mine”
Before I could say another word, he sunk his teeth on my neck as a loud moan escaped my throat.
The suddenness of his action weakened me and he held onto me like I was but a doll. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw Jacob walking out and I couldn't help but think about the moments which had led up to this…
Iris's POV The rays of the sunlight hit my face and turned on the bed, groaning before slowly sitting up. The curtain was slightly parted, same with the window and the sun seeped in.It was closed, and I was sure that it was that bastard that opened it. Talking about him…how did I get to the bed?I remembered that after much grumbling, and waiting for him to leave, he didn't. Yet he laid comfortably on my bed. I had no choice but to make use of the sofa. Then how did I get here…The idiots must have placed me here. I wondered when he woke up, and when he left. Instinctively, I shifted towards where he laid and sniffed it. His earth and mint scent filled my nose and I closedy eyes. What the hell…I jerked back, shifting away from the place he laid. Dear me,What was I doing? I took several breaths in and out, calming myself. I remembered my silliness yesterday and my face palmed. What was I thinking when I tried to push him off yesterday? The bastard had taken advantage of that and
Lucian's POV “Hm, I’ve been called that many times. It isn't new.” I shrugged.“What do you want from me, Lucian?” She asked, her shoulders dropping.“You.” I said, and watched her go through different stages of emotions before she glared at me.“I want to sleep, and I’d prefer being alone.” She mumbled.“Go ahead.” “I’ll do so when you leave, I want my space.”“There's no such thing as space between husbands and wives.” I said, playing with a piece of cloth. She looked angry, frustrated, tired and exhausted at the same time.“I guess I’ll leave the room for you then, bastard.” She muttered as she made to leave the room.Snapping my fingers, the door banged shot. Her eyes widened as she faced me, before reaching out for the door handle. She tried to pull it opened, but no matter how she tried, it just wouldn't bulge.“Flaunting your powers, huh?” She scoffed, “Undo whatever you did, now.”Her voice was low, stern and commanding like a mother hen scolding her chicks for going stray.
Iris's POV The shadow idiots laid in the bed with a wide grin in his faces. At this moment, the temptation to punch it off further increased. After much contemplation, I decided to open the door. I'd shield the door with my body so Rhea wouldn't look in, then I'd leave the room with her. When I get back, I'll give the idiots a nice piece of my mind before sending him away.I took a deep breath, throwing Darius one last look before heading towards the door. I raised my hands to the door handle and slowly unlocked it, making sure my body covered the space. I looked forward, but instead of Rhea, it was a man and a familiar scent hit my nose. It was a combination of earth, and mint. Then I slowly looked up to meet a pair of familiar icy blue eyes that I had somehow gotten used to."Lucian." I whispered as my heart skipped several beats. What the hell was he doing here?Wasn't he supposed to be in his study, at work or somewhere?"Work? It's evening girl." That nosy voice whispered.I sc
Lucian's POV I sighed, finding Kaiza was looking like a Herculean task. I wondered if it was something Baran would be able to do. I left Zurich's body and didn't bother to clear it.We left the shack and drove off, back to the mansion. It was evening already, and everywhere was very calm. I passed through the garden, expecting to see the musketeers but they weren't there as well.I had to see Gaius, to warn him not to play such stunts with Iris like he did the last time. Ivan had once reported that while Iris and her maids were in the garden having lunch, a dagger had been thrown at her.Plus the musketeers were also in the garden that same time, having their usual picnic. Although Ivan didn't mention names, it was clear he also knew who it was from his tone.It obviously wasn't Ivana, she hadn't really seen and interacted with Iris. Neither was it Michael, all that he loved were food, drinks and fun. Which leaves only Gaius, it was definitely him.He must have sense that Iris was wo
Lucian's POV "Tell me Lucian. How many days does your new prey have before she gets missing? Days? Weeks? Months? Years? What would it be?" Zurich, Mica's brother said as he walked around us in the shack, running his sword on the walls."Who knows." I voiced in reply."It seems you don't have time for jokes today Lucian. Then let's get down to business. Where is Mica?" He asked as his eyes flashed red."I don't want to believe that she's dead, like the rest of your other wives. Tell me where she is and if she's alive, I might spare you. But if she isn't, you know the answer." He said."Okay. What would happen if she's maybe half alive, with her body parts butchered and mutilated? What a beautiful sight." I taunted, enjoying the look of rage on his face."You're doing this to piss me off right? I know she isn't dead." He smiled, but he gripped his sword harshly."Well...hope is a good thing. And Azariel here agrees with me right?" Azariel only glared at me in response."You are cunni
Iris's POV My eyes slowly opened, adjusting to the dimness of the room. I rose up and stretched my hands towards the curtain, opening it. It was evening already, and everywhere was turning dark.I stood up from my bed, and walked towards the switch, turning on the lights. I was not a fan of darkness or dark places, even during the night, I slept with the lights on. Not that I was scared of the dark, but I just preferred the lights on.But wait a minute, have how did I get here?I remembered I was at the garden with Samantha, Eloise and Rhea. We were painting, then the next moment we were training. And then we started talking and things started to go wrong. I recalled us talking about Lucian, and I suddenly felt overwhelmed and a panging headache.I also recalled walking out of the garden and heading towards my room. But I didn't remember opening the door myself, something gripped me before I collapsed. My eyes widened, it was the shadow. I remembered the feeling of its shadowy hands
