Saved by him

Azaria's POV

Darkness enveloped me the moment I opened my eyes. I was sitting on the floor. I could hear the tapping toes of rodents as they travelled across the room.

I tried to stand but then I remembered I had been bound by a tight rope. They were not stinging like before now they throbbed, from the constant pushing and twisting from me trying to be free. To escape.

“Ouch!” I had just touched an open wound on my wrist. I shudder to think of the many wounds on them. Or imagine myself trying to get a bath. The pain would be enormous.

I tried to turn. To know what I had been tied to, but it was not working. Was it like a wall or pole? I slumped exhausted from my trials. How long have I been here? I've lost track of time in this darkness. The only thing I could hear was the sound of my heart beating and the rats running around. I swallowed. It tasted like sweat plus blood.

Where am I?

“Help!!! Is someone there?” I cried out. It might be useless. What if I was kept in some sort of dungeon? Who took me? What do they want? I mean we have no money. My father is no high ranking elder in the pack. So why was I here?

I kept quiet and then when the realization hit me, tears began to cascade down my cheeks. I was nobody. If I went missing, nobody's going to know or care. What of Ashley?

She might not know too. I sniffed, tasting salty water. It was useless crying out for help.

Nearby something hissed. I sat up immediately. What was that? I struggled to free myself, not caring about the pain emanating from my wrist.

Suddenly the hissing grew louder, the dry coiling of scales on the floor. My heart pounded in my chest. It could fall out any moment from now.

I yelled as loud as I could. My throat was hurting. My head was hurting but I was still screaming. Maybe. Just maybe the reptile will leave at the sound of my cry. I was still screaming when I felt something wet hit my face and I bolted.

***************************************************************************************************

I awoke to a puppy licking my face. It was wagging its tail and staring at me.

Oh it was just a dream.

I tried to stand but couldn't. My hands and feet were bound. Okay I was still kidnapped but I was in a room, not in the woods or in a dark room. And for that I was grateful. I lay there and listened to their conversation about how much I would be sold and then I heard something that shattered my heart.

“Did you hear that the heir to the blood moon pack, has been betrothed to the daughter of the volcans”

“Yes”

“He will marry her to broker peace or else—“

“Or else what?”

“There will be war”

A tear slipped past my eyes. He called me his mate only to marry another. A sob escaped my throat and the door to the room was yanked open.

“Come here slave”

“No!!!!” I was dragged out of the room and as they walked, I kept screaming for my dear life. They would definitely kill him. Finally they dropped me in the middle of a room and switched on the lights and I immediately went blind.

*************************************************************************************

Please don’t hurt me!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. They ran round me as they circled me. Gritting their teeth and growling and they were not fully turned into werewolves. I was scared shitless because I had never gotten a close encounter with rogues.

“Guys let’s finish her off!”

“No, not yet, she has to suffer first”

“No guys don’t touch her yet, we don’t have the order to do that!”

The one who had lots of resentment towards me, gritted his teeth, glared at me and charged towards her. The others tried to stop him but it was useless. He was pretty fast.

“No! No! Please help me” I cried covering my face and shut my eyes as a tear flew past my cheeks at a fast rate. It’s a pity. Even on my date, I still have to be alone. Just like I have always been.

“Touch her and you will die” came a deep growl nearby. My eyes went wide. Who was that?

“Who the hell are you?” one of the rogues barked.

“Mind your fucking your business and why the hell are you here!” I turned to the door. “How the hell are you in here?!” the one who seemed like their leader yelled as he faced this very dark, red-eyed wolf. He was huge with furry air. Damn! I never knew we werewolves could be that big.

“Who are you anyway?” one asked.

“Shut up, I make the orders here!” came the scary werewolf.

The wolves burst into laughter. I was scared for the werewolf but with such size, I shudder at the havoc he could wreck but I was scared for him

“I think he wants to take her place” one said amidst laughter. “Who are you to her anyway? Her lover?”

“We all are werewolves, so we are not scared of you” another rogue said.

“Oh really” the big werewolf snarled. “ how about now—“ before I could process a thing, right before my eyes, the big werewolf moved like a flash and the next thing I saw was the bloodied parts of the rogues on the floor.

I gasped. The big guy killed him.

“So do I continue?” he gritted his teeth.

With a snap of my fingers, the other 5 rogues had all transitioned. “We are not scared of you,” their leader growled.

“Hmm” the big guy chuckled. “Now this will be fun”

And the fight began, claws against claws. The big guy slit their throats, pulled their hearts out, tore them limb by limb. It was gory, blood filled the place.

Then it was just one. Their leader. He staggered backwards with a bloodied up leg.

“Come on, don’t waste my time” the big guy said with a smug voice as he circled him.

“Who… who... the hell…is... is she to you anyway?” the leader coughed out blood.

The big guy grabbed the rogue by the neck and began to squeeze slowly. The rogue struggled to breath, he clawed and kicked and pushed but it was useless.

“MINE!!!!” he growled harshly and the body between his claws cracked and the rogue fell to the ground, dead. Blood filled everywhere.

I clasped a hand over my mouth. He’s dead. The big guy killed them all. He snapped his eyes at me and I gasped.

Was I next?

With a long stride, he was already in front of me. “Don’t hurt me!” I cried out as I covered my face.

“Azaria”

I opened my eyes. It was none other than Nicholas Sinclair. My eyes flew wide. He had already transitioned back to human form. If Nicholas was here, it meant one thing and one thing only.

He. Was. My. Mate.

“Come let’s go home” he said, loosening the ropes. But as soon as my hands were free, I did the first thing on my mind.

I smacked him on the face.

Moonchild MasteryAzaria’s POVThe days after my return to the waking world felt both gentle and demanding. The palace still moved with a kind of hushed awe, as if I might slip away again at any moment. Faces softened when I passed.Conversations paused, as though my presence was enough to change the air. Nicholas rarely let more than a few steps stretch between us. The company that my family provided was continuous in nature like an anchor that keeps a sea faring sailor to stay close to his being. It was a comfort but also a reminder. If I was truly back I could not simply have stood in the midst of all this warmth and let life go on about me. I had to step into it fully. It could not be fear that determines my decisions anymore. That was what sent me to the little coutage in a far corner of the north woods. The place where Liora lived. She had been a name carried in quiet voices for years, the Moon Warden. A witch that had refused all the proposals to power, and so was living solita

A Kingdom RebornNicholas’s POVThe sun was pouring down golden light on the palace grounds and to the marble corridors it gave a pleasant sense of warmth. Things had been weighing heavy on my chest since weeks since Azaria came back and I felt the weight getting smaller. Every morning I would wake up to hear her voice. I slept every night knowing I had her with me. Alive. Breathing. Whole. The kingdom felt different now. It was not only that the danger had lessened, though that was part of it. It was the way Azaria stood beside me. She was not an ornament for the court to admire from a distance, nor a silent shadow following my steps. She was my equal in every sense, my partner in ruling and in life. That morning, we sat together in the council chamber. The war table stretched between us, cluttered with maps, coded letters, and markers in deep red ink where the last of Selene’s loyalists were believed to hide. The threat had not been erased. The serpent still had teeth. But now, for

The Celebration We Almost LostNicholas’s POVThe palace has never been like this before. The sound of music issued forth of the great hall, rude and uncontrollable, mingling with the laughter which rebounded in the white marble halls, running out into the gardens. There was an aroma of roast meats and sweet wines and bread flavored with the moon. Around the fields the bonfires were crackling, and the packs were midway feasting, though not feast of custom, but of survival.A celebration none of us thought we’d ever get to have.Because she came back.Azaria.Alive, breathing, smiling, walking, her step a bit sluggish, but still soft, yet still she was herself.I was standing at the further end of the garden, out of the crowd, some distance away. Her face was lit up under the moon and she bore her head thrown back as she laughed at something Ashley had said. The hair tumbled in her back disheveled and undone as I had fallen in love with the girl before all the turmoil was released. Th

The ReturnAshley’s POVThe corridors never seemed so long.My pulse was pounding against my rib cage so I ran through it, nurses shouting behind me, sounds that were more like a background blur behind the thunder in my ears. Not in fear… no. In hope. In disbelief.“She moved… she opened her eyes!”I didn’t want to believe it.Not again. We’d had too many false alarms. Twitch and breath and flutter of lashes that never reached its close without heartbreak. Too often Nicholas had cried wolf, gazing at her with the expectation that she might first turn into a life form, that love was the sole means by which to pull an individual out of nowhere.Yet it was not the same sensation in the air this time. My bones were shaking. My soul wouldn’t let me stay still.I pushed the door open and…She was looking at me.Azaria.Eyes open.Breathing.Alive.I clawed back against the wall where I could not hear the machines suddenly. The little sighs and nonsensings faded to blankness with the rest of

The Unmoving SunNicholas’s POVThe room was quiet.Too quiet. The type of silence which sat heavily on your chest, and seemed to make breathing difficult. There was the sound of machines murmuring faintly, rather like reminders of the fact that Azaria lived after all. Technically. But her soul? Her soul had been gone for weeks.I was sitting on the side of her bed and my crossed legs were painfully on the floor, my head on the edge of the bed. It smelled of lavender, of the oil with which Ashley had always cooled herself after a fright, rubbed on her wrists. And there was a vial she had left here, amongst the sunflowers that already were half wilted in a vase.Azaria would’ve hated the silence. She energised the room even as she remained silent. When she was just smiling, or tightening her eyes like that as though she was going to make some witty thing at my expense, as I knew she would. Now she was still.Unmoving.Unbreathing, even if the machines said otherwise.I lifted her hand

The Mirror TrialAzaria’s POVThere was no sky here.No ceiling, no horizon, no stars.Just an endless silver void, like fog laced with moonlight, stretching in every direction. I walked through it barefoot, my steps silent. The ground beneath me was cool and untextured, like glass, but it didn’t reflect me.Nothing did.Until I reached the mirrors. All of them not the same height, but curving in odd unstable ways. They moved lightly, as though they had a pulse, with curling and trembling silvery flanks like water that a wisp of breath had stirred. The Memory Keeper had been behind them, clad in that heavy mantle of his everlasting silence, his glowing eyes staring at me like his book still in progress.“You’ve come far,” he said in a voice like broken glass.I said nothing. Not yet.He stepped aside, gesturing toward the first mirror.“This is who you were.”I hesitated then looked.A small girl stared back at me.Eight years old, maybe. Hair tangled. Eyes too wide. She wore a faded
