Chapter 26“You didn’t answer my question. Do you know that man?” He repeated again, this time softly with one hand on my shoulder giving it a light squeeze. I try not to shake. “I don’t know.” I lie through my teeth. “Well, he’s looking for you. We need to keep you safe. You don’t have to worry alright? I’m here. You’re safe with me.” He says as he brings me in close by pulling on my hand. I don’t resist as I put my head on his chest and breathe deeply. He must have realized something was wrong for him to be behaving this way. What’s strange is that I actually feel safe. As soon as he said that, I felt safe. I didn’t want to tell him or Dani. I didn’t want her to know that Aria had died because of me. This man came here looking for me and other people were just collateral.Maybe I shouldn’t have escaped back then. Then Aria would be alive and Taranis wouldn’t be hurt. Even though I knew how ridiculous my thoughts were, they still came up, making me think I didn’t deserve to be h
Chapter 26 Continued I hear footsteps and not just any footsteps. These particular ones were all I could hear for a month straight. Locked in that room, hearing him walk up the stairs or down the stairs. Hearing him in the kitchen. Everywhere. I recognise these steps a little too well. I know for sure I did not misjudge them. It was him alright. The aura was menacing. “Haz- Ericaaa” He calls out in a singing voice. It made me cringe uncomfortably. He knew my real name. He was aware I was not his daughter and yet he was so good at acting I almost believed he was completely delusional. Well he was definitely mentally ill in one way or another. Taranis looked at me in slight confusion. I chew on my lower lip, drawing blood. He tried to push me towards the closet but I was resisting. “Stop. I’ll take care of this.” He assured me trying to push me further but not wanting to be forceful. I frown. “That’s exactly what I don’t want.” I pull away from him. If something happened to him b
Chapter 27 He managed to take the gun from me and tried to nudge me to the closet but it was already too late. Adam had spotted us. Grey hair. The shabby look hadn’t changed, he looked exactly the same as before except skinnier and perhaps more well built probably owing to the physical labor he was made to do during prison. I didn’t notice I was shivering until I felt an arm around my waist, the sensation almost made me jump. “Go inside and lock it.” Taranis whispers. I was scared. Of course I was scared, but I wasn’t the same person as before. I’ve received countless training sessions over the years but somehow I felt it melting away after looking at Adam’s face. “You. Leave. This is between me and my daughter.” Adam tells Taranis, a menacing smile playing at his lips, especially when he says ‘daughter’.I feel my blood running cold. When is he going to let it go?“Nobody else has to get hurt. Just tell me what you want.” I say slowly and calmly as he inches closer step by step
The past 2 chapters were short, as I mentioned it was because I was taking care of my sick puppy. He’s definitely doing much better now :). I’m so happy. Finding a good vet is really difficult :( and I was guided wrongly which made him even more sick !Thankfully he’s doing much better now just wanted to give an update if anyone was interested. He’s 8 weeks old and is the sweetest well behaved toy poodle.\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
Taranis pushed me and I stumbled towards the closet.“Man to man fight. Put the gun down.” Adam smirked slightly, the wrinkles on his face accentuating. He showed his rifle in an attempt to make peace as he slowly put it down. Seeing this, Taranis scoffed. “Easy for you to say when you’ve already shot me.” His eyes were watching Adam’s every move, like he was waiting for him to bring out a trick. When Adam completely put down his rifle and even went as far as kicking it away from himself and putting up his hands. Taranis did the same.“Don’t fall for it.” I whisper, loud enough for just him to hear. “I can’t back down from a fight.” He shrugs, stretching his neck to one side with his hand and then the other side. “That’s not me. Come on grandpa, I can do this in my sleep.” He offers a smirk. I bite my lip. I knew Adam. I could remember all the times he promised he’d let me go and then going back on his word.
Chapter 28Adam was old but not that old and he clearly seemed more well built than before. He must be around my dad’s age, so in his 50’s. I don’t know how well Taranis fights but he’s pretty well built as well, better than Adam. The only problem here is, he doesn’t know that Adam does not play fairTaranis brings up his left fist, going for a punch. When Adam brings up his arm to defend himself he uses the opportunity to right hook him since the left was just a decoy. Adam receives a fist to his face and stumbles backwards. He spits out blood and makes a wry face. He uses his own head to jerk forward and smack it against Taranis’s, receiving a slight groan. Then Adam kicks his knee almost causing him to fold but Taranis held his ground and spun him around using his arm. He forces him to the ground as he keeps Adam’s arm locked behind his back to the brink of almost breaking it. “You don’t even know the story, boy. This is between me and her.” Adam groaned, trying to escape his gr
Chapter 29 Adam saw that Taranis’s guard was lowered and he took the opportunity to take out a small pistol from his waistband by fumbling around.I was watching the entire time but now, I knew I had to move. I had to do something. As he took it out, I ran toward him. He pointed the gun towards Taranis’s chest. I took a hold of the barrel and with a swift movement I changed the trajectory. The years of training finally paid off, at least it was worth something. I didn’t think I would ever need it but here I was.//////////////////////////////////////////////////////Sorry for the short chapter !
Chapter 29 I never thought I had the worst luck in existence until this happened. For a couple minutes I couldn’t believe myself. Of course with bullets and a closed space sometimes it’s unpredictable but this was crazy even by my standards. The bullet must have ricocheted somewhere in the hall most likely on a metallic material. Unfortunately, it’s target was me and it entered my lower back on the left side. I did not feel it exiting which meant it was somewhere inside perhaps doing further damage. I yelped in pain as soon as I felt it and for a couple minutes I wasn’t aware that it was the bullet. I simply felt an unbelievably sharp pain. Taranis had taken the gun from Adam and used the back of the handle to deliver a hard blow on his face. Adam shortly lost consciousness after and we let out a sigh of relief. It wasn’t long after the SWAT team entered the area with their guns and heavily protective bullet proof jackets and I resisted the urge to scoff at them. It took them an e
