*Cade's POV*
“CADE GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE NOW, YOU’RE GONNA BE LATE FOR SCHOOL”
FUCK. I sit up and yell back, “5 MINUTES MOM!” I roll myself out of bed and throw on the first pair of jeans I can find with a random black t-shirt and head down the stairs. Mom hands me a plate with toast on it and a cup of coffee. I give her a kiss on the cheek as I grab them from here and then take a seat on one of the stools at the island next to my 6 year-old twin sisters, Hanna and Lily.
“Hi Cade!” They say at the same time and look up at me with adoration in their eyes.
“Hi cuties,” I say before shoving the toast into my mouth.
My mom had them after she got married to my Step-loser Ben. God only knows what she sees in that guy. He is selfish, arrogant and basically treats my mom like she’s his live-in housemaid. He cheats on her constantly and doesn’t even try to hide it anymore. I think she only tolerates him out of necessity. Without his money, we would end up right back in that trailer park; and Ben makes sure to remind us of that constantly. Personally, I think the trailer park is better. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad my sisters are out of it, but I wish Ben would just disappear already.
I finish off my coffee and throw my dishes in the sink. As I’m putting on my blacks boots and leather jacket, my mom yells, “Have a good day at school, love you!” I yell “Love you too!” back as I grab my bag and rush out the door. I hop in my civic and squeal out of the driveway towards the school.
When I pull into a parking spot, I look at the time: 7:55. What the fuck? I still have 20 minutes. I roll my eyes. Of course mom would rush me here 20 minutes early. I see Xander’s car which means Brett is here and Jason’s is next to his. I send a group text.
Me: Where are you fuckers?
Jason: Atrium.
I slip my phone into my back pocket and head in to find them seated around one of the tables discussing last night. When Xander sees me he lifts an eyebrow and says, “You’re here early.”
I just shrug my shoulders and take a seat on top of the table, putting my feet on one of the chairs. The guys continue describing yesterday’s conquests and I drown them out as I survey the atrium. I find Grant, Captain of the football team and king douche of Half Moon Bay High with all of his lackeys (i.e. the rest of the football team) hanging around on the benches with most of the cheerleading squad dangling off their arms, Mackenzie included. I roll my eyes hard and then continue scanning before stopping on someone.
She must be new here. With a body like that I would have noticed her before. Slim but toned with an ass you only ever see in fitness magazines and decent tits to boot. Holy fuck, I don’t think jeans and a leather jacket has ever looked that good. It’s hard to tell from this distance but from what I can see her face is just as hot as her body. Never taking my eyes off of her, I interrupt their conversation and ask “Do any of you know that girl?”
All 3 of them turn to follow my gaze and I can practically see the drool coming out of their mouths.
Brett is the first to reply, “No, but I would sure like to.” My body has a very sudden and adverse reaction to his comment and I glare at the back of his head. Xander notices this and gives me a strange look. I school my features back into an expression of neutrality and continue watching the girl. I see many heads turning to watch her, which is no surprise. We don’t often get new people here; certainly not ones that look like that.
While I’m busy focussing on her, I see king douche himself jog a little to catch up with her. She stops to look at him. I don’t know what they’re saying but I can clearly see him checking her out. He then steps closer and puts a hand on her shoulder but she’s quick to remove it and walks away. He yells after her “Wait I didn’t even get your name!” But she completely ignores him and keeps walking. Smart girl. I feel myself smiling until I hear Xander say, “Well boys, it looks like Cade here has himself a little crush on the new girl.” They all smirk and I snort and say, “Yeah, right.”
“Come on Cade, I saw the googly eyes you were giving her,” Xander says.
“Nah man, that was me planning on making her the next notch on my bedpost,” I say, a smirk forming on my face.
*Monroe's POV*It’s finally prom night. We all get ready at my house with the exception of Brett and Jason who are getting ready with they’re dates. Deciding to go along with the casino royale theme, I wear a tight, low-cut black dress with a slit up my left side. Maddy is wearing an a-line, v-neck red dress with a slit up the side and Charlie is wearing a long-sleeved off the shoulder, fitted green dress with, you guessed it, a slit up the side. Cade, Xander and Matt look hot as fuck in their tuxedos when they come to pick us up.When we arrive at the prom, all eyes fall on us. We know we look good and we don’t shy away from the attention. It turns out this prom did have fake poison martinis and nerf gun assassinations which were actually a lot of fun. It was even more fun because of the fla
*Cade's POV*We spend the rest of the rest of the week convincing everyone to come to Monroe’s party Friday. Naturally, they all come with the promise of free liquor and at the party, Monroe plays a little slide show of her and Maddy breaking down the entire incident, including the photo evidence and it finishes with Monroe saying, “If you’re like us and are sick of Mackenzie’s shit,” and then Monroe and Maddy together say, “Vote for Maddy!” Everyone cheers and Mackenzie storms off and out of the party. The party is a massive success and we’re pretty sure Maddy is going to win. When Monday comes around, once again neither of us wants to go to school. At lunch we discuss college, which is a topic Monroe and I have tried to avoid.
*Cade's POV*When we leave Maddy’s house that evening, I can’t help but feel like my entire life has changed in the last couple hours. I feel so emotionally drained but my heart still somehow feels complete. We go get Monroe’s bike and then head to her house. When we walk in, she feeds the dogs and then walks downstairs and pours us each a very full glass of very expensive whiskey. “I feel like you probably need this as much as I do,” she says as she hands it to me.She leads me back upstairs to the living room couch and she says, “What are you thinking about?”“A lot of things. I’m thinking about how stupid I was today and how I almost fucked everything up. Bu
*Monroe's POV*We’re about halfway through the semester and Maddy and I have strategically planned out her party at my house for next Friday which is exactly 1 week from today; the day of the candidate speeches. Our campaigning is going well and all signs point to one of us winning (preferably Maddy). All of the seniors are gathering in the gym to see our petitions. The girls start and Mackenzie goes first. Her presentation starts on the screen and she starts discussing her cheerleading history and ‘how much she’s done for this school’ and then she says, “Besides, the other two options are a girl who’s being cheated on and a girl who’s sleeping with her best friends boyfriend.” She clicks the slide and I look at the screen to find three pictures. The first one is Matt and I walking into a room together, the middle
*Monroe's POV*When we’re back in Half Moon Bay, we spend the rest of our vacation hanging out with our friends and relaxing before we have to go back to school for our final semester. When we finally go back to school, we barely make it to lunch and already all anyone can seem to talk about is the fucking prom.“Did you guys hear that Mackenzie is already going around calling herself our ‘future prom Queen’?” Maddy says.I snort and say, “I don’t even understand how that girl fits that much ego into her tiny body.”“She also said that nobody is allowed to wear gold because she’s wearing gold,” Charlie says.
*Monroe's POV*I wake up earlier than a sane person would on their vacation and decide to go for a run on the beach. I don’t wander too far because I feel like Cade would worry if I wasn’t back when he woke up, even though I left him a note. When I get back to the room and find him still asleep, I crumple the note and get into the shower. He joins me halfway through.“You went for a run,” he states.“Yeah, I did.”“What, my workout yesterday morning wasn’t good enough?” He says, wrapping his arms around my waist.“Well, I mean, both are good.”After our shower (which we take our time with), we both get ready f
