Chapter 3

Author: Reading Lamp
I happened to reach the doorway when I heard Caleb's voice. I froze mid-step, and my ears perked up instantly.

"Are you serious?" Asher raised an eyebrow, clearly unconvinced.

"Valerie's back, so I'm not going to keep dragging things out with Sabrina. Besides, it was never serious," Caleb said with a sneer.

Asher leaned back lazily. "You don't know Sabrina. She's super clingy. Getting away from her won't be easy."

"That's why I need your help." Caleb lifted his gaze and went on, "Go flirt with her. Let her be the one to break up with me."

At that, Asher shot upright. "What? You want us to do it? No way. I can't stand women like her. She's pathetic and desperate. Just the sight of her irritates me."

He scowled as he spoke, disgust written all over his face.

Then, Caleb turned to the quiet one. "What about you, Marcus?"

"I'm not interested," Marcus answered, adjusting his gold-rimmed glasses.

Even so, Caleb remained calm. He slowly pulled out his phone and said, "Once it's done, the Dodge Tomahawk is yours. As for your photos… I'll delete them."

Marcus' expression changed instantly. His grip on the pen tightened until veins bulged. "What photos?"

"The ones from elementary school. You know, when you danced in a skirt at the New Year's recital. The kind the whole class passed around," Caleb replied with a gentle smile.

The room went silent for a moment.

Then, Asher cursed, "What the hell? You really know how to get people where it hurts. Fine! We're in. Forget about her. I could even make a rock fall in love with me if I wanted to!"

"If you post those photos, I'll kill you!" Marcus warned through gritted teeth.

Caleb's lips curled into a smirk. "Relax. She's easy to manipulate. One spark, and she'll light right up."

Outside the door, I heard every word. I slapped a hand over my mouth, barely holding in a laugh. This was a gift from above!

Sure, Caleb was a dangerously handsome jerk, but the other two weren't too shabby either.

Marcus had a striking face. He wore a white shirt and gold-rimmed glasses, radiating cool, fragile elegance. The mole at the corner of his eye seemed perfectly placed to make him utterly captivating.

As for Asher, he was on another level entirely. Towering at six feet two inches, he was lean and tanned. His gaze was sharp, but when he smiled, it was enough to make any woman's heart race uncontrollably.

When I got close to Caleb, it wasn't just because of his looks. Staying near him was the perfect cover and the shortest path to winning both Asher and Marcus over.

At first, my plan was to take them one at a time. I just hadn't expected them to come at me together.

Well, if they were offering themselves, I had no choice but to accept.

Back in class, I sat down, grinning like a fool. Waiting for Asher and Marcus to make the first move felt sweeter than Christmas morning.

I couldn't stop smiling when I saw Caleb walking down the hall.

"Thank you for sending me these perfect guys! You're an absolute saint!" I exclaimed inwardly.

"Are you really this happy to see me?" Caleb asked with a frown, clearly disgusted.

I nodded eagerly. "I love you most, Caleb! You're the best!"

"Pathetic," he muttered, but the corner of his mouth twitched.

After that, he lowered his head and sent a message in the group chat. He wrote, "She might not be that easy to win over."

That night, I tossed and turned in bed, wondering who would make the first move.

By all logic, it should've been Asher. He had no limits and was the kind of guy who could flip the principal's desk without blinking.

But the next morning, the moment I arrived at school, I spotted Marcus standing at the corner of the stairs.

He stopped me. His face was tense, as if he had just flunked a test.

"Sabrina, do you… want to study together?" he asked in a strained voice.

I froze, stunned at how direct Marcus was. He wasn't even trying to hide it.

I had thought he was the quiet type. But to my surprise, he was a straight-up, no-filter kind of guy.

I didn't say a word and just stared at Marcus. I was doing it on purpose. I wanted to see how he'd play it next.

"Alright," I said.Once we'd settled in, the three of us headed downstairs for dinner. The restaurant wasn't crowded, so we decided to choose a table by the window."What do you want to order?" Asher asked as he handed me the menu.I flipped through it briefly before declaring, "Let's get one of each seafood dish."Marcus furrowed his brows. "That's a lot. Can we even finish it?""If we can't, we can always pack it up," I replied nonchalantly.Asher let out a chuckle. "Fine. We'll do it your way," he replied. It didn't take long for the dishes to arrive. Soon, the table was covered with plate after plate of seafood. As we chatted over dinner, the mood between us settled into something warm and cozy."Sabrina," Marcus said suddenly.I gave a small hum in response."Are you happy?" he continued.I paused at his words. "Of course I am. Why do you ask?"A smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "I just wanted to make sure. Seeing you happy puts my mind at ease."I kept my ga

On the way back to campus, I found myself walking between Marcus and Asher. The night breeze carried the scent of early summer. All of a sudden, it struck me how nice this kind of life was. Without the need to date and the constant fear of losing someone that came with it, I was content as long as I had sincere friends."Sabrina," Asher suddenly said.I gave a soft hum in response."Will we always be like this?" he asked. His question caught me off guard. "I think so," I replied after a moment. "As long as we all want it to stay that way.""That's good to hear."Marcus spoke up as well. "No matter what happens in the future, we'll always be friends.""That's right. We're friends for life," I said with a smile. After that, we fell into a comfortable silence as we walked on. Still, I knew we were all thinking the same thing.…Finals arrived right on schedule.I was certain that I did pretty well. At the very least, I wasn't in danger of failing any of the subjects. All th

Just then, Asher walked in with a whole bag of snacks in hand.He placed the snacks on the table. "Here, have some. You'll need the energy."I immediately tore open a bag of chips. "You're the best, Ash!" "Of course, I am," he replied lightly, settling into a seat beside me. "How's revision going?""Don't even ask. It feels like my brain's about to explode," I crunched on a chip and grumbled."Why don't you take a break then? There's no point in studying non-stop anyway," Asher said."But exams are right around the corner.""That's exactly why you need to relax. Come on, I'll take the two of you out," he replied.Marcus frowned at his words. "Now? I don't think that's a good idea.""What's wrong with it? Work hard, play hard—that's the way to do it," Asher replied as he stood up.I hesitated for a moment before asking, "Where are we going?""Just follow me."In the end, Asher dragged the two of us out of the library and straight into an arcade."Why are we here again? Before I could finish my sentence, I caught sight of Caleb walking toward us.He came to a stop by our table before asking, "Can I sit here?"The three of us froze at his words. In the end, Marcus spoke first. "Sure."Caleb sat across from me. After a brief silence, he said, "There's something I want to tell you, Sabrina."I set my fork down. "Go ahead.""I'd like to speak to you alone," he insisted.I glanced at Marcus and Asher. "You can just say it here. They're not outsiders."A frown crossed his face, but in the end, he still nodded. "I've thought it through," he said. "We really weren't meant for each other."I raised an eyebrow at his words. "And?""So, I want to apologize to you properly. What happened before was my fault. I shouldn't have treated you that way," he said, meeting my eyes."I've already received your apology," I replied."I know," he said quietly. "But I wanted to say it again. I'm sorry, Sabrina."I studied him for a few seconds. "You've changed, Cal

"Here, Sabrina." Marcus handed me an umbrella."Thanks," I replied."Do you want to grab something to eat? I know a pretty good place nearby," Asher offered.I shook my head. "No, it's okay. I want to be alone for a while."The two of them exchanged a glance."Alright," Marcus said gently. "You can always come and find us if you need anything." I gave a soft hum in response. After they left, I held up the umbrella and made my way back slowly. The rain grew heavier as it drummed against the umbrella above me. All of a sudden, my thoughts drifted back to the first day I arrived on campus. It'd been raining that day, too.I'd stood by the entrance, feeling a little lost as I took in the unfamiliar surroundings before me.That was the moment I first crossed paths with Caleb. He'd brushed past me, umbrella in hand, without even sparing me a glance.I remembered thinking he was really good-looking. And that was how I started to pursue him. Looking back now, it felt almost li

Asher broke into a sudden fit of coughing the moment my words fell. "W-What kind of nonsense are you blabbing about?" he stammered.I blinked at him innocently. "I was just asking, but that was quite a reaction. Don't tell me I'm actually right?" He looked away and replied, "That's not it. Don't jump to conclusions."I stared at the faint blush creeping up his ear before letting out a chuckle. "Alright, I get it."Once I'd returned to the dorm, I lay on the bed and scrolled through my phone. Just then, a message from Marcus popped up."Thanks for coming to see me today. The oatmeal was delicious," he texted."You're welcome. Are you feeling any better?""Yeah, much better.""That's good. Remember to take your medicine on time," I urged."I will. By the way, did Caleb come to look for you?" he asked."Yeah, he came to apologize," I said."Did the two of you make up?""No. I turned him down."There was a long silence on the other end before Marcus finally sent another mes
