LOGINRogue POV
It took me days to flee my old territory. The supposed Alpha King tracked me for 12 hours through the land before he called off the search. A few hunters tried to track me in the days after that, but I evaded them all.
Seeing my street come into view and the modest 4-bedroom house I called home come into view gave me hope that I had escaped that world again. I put my key in and turned it just glad to be back. “I’m Home”.
My room mate Kimberly is the first to great meet me. “Welcome back. How was the conference”.
“Uh, yeah it was good. Usual sort of Vet updates”. The humans I live with don’t even know werewolves exist, let alone that I’m a wolf. No way I can tell them where I was or what happened.
Michelle comes running up too me way to excited, “Well now that your back you need to get dressed up. We're going out to a wine bar tonight”.
I dramatically groaned. “No. Why”.
She just rolls her eyes, “Because I want to meet someone to have fun with and Kimberly is still looking for Mr husband material”.
I just laugh. “And what about Willow”.
“You know the only men she’s interested in are the ones in her books. Still more than you though”.
I’m the first ready and wait at the bottom of the stairs for my girls. Michelle comes down next in the shortest, tightest red dress she has ever made in matching 5-inch heels.
Michelle sees me and instantly rolls her eyes. “Why do you always dress like a bodyguard. Honestly how are you going to attract a man dressed like that”.
“A, who says I’m looking for one, and B, who is going to protect you from the ones who might actually try and eat you dressed like that”.
Her face lights up and she starts giggling. “I know, I look awesome right. Just need a man looking for a fun time tonight”. We look up the stairs as the other two girls make their grand entrance.
“Well hello commoners. Will you be escorting the ladies tonight on our outing’’, Willow calls out in a playful mocking tone.
Michelle just playfully snaps back. “You're just jealous I’m this hot and you’re not. Now hurry up we have a reserved booth”.
I wish I could be normal like them.
Walking into the dimly lit bar I check for exits and potential threats hiding in plain sight. I use my senses to check for other wolves. None. Since I know there is a threat, the coolness of my hidden blades against my skin always brings me reassurance as we walk towards our booth.
I’m stuck in my own thoughts, seeing those glowing golden eyes staring at me from the shadows and the word that makes by blood run cold replaying over and over in my head. “Mate”. Even now, I know he’s not here but it’s like I can sense eyes watching me.
“So, what about you girl. What’s new in your life”. I jolt out of my thoughts to see Michelle smiling at me.
“You know me, I never have anything interesting going on in my life. I treat people’s pets at the vet clinic. Make them better when I can and come home. I can tell you about a new surgery technique I’m researching as I want to improve my surgical capabilities. That and I’m planning my monthly camping trip for next week”.
“You really need to get a hobby or something”, Michelle groans why being dramatic.
I just laugh at her expression. “Hiking and camping is a hobby”.
“You do the same hike and go to the same place each time. How about just going somewhere new and exciting. Some were more beach-like with cocktails and cabana boys”.
I just shrug at her. “What can I say, I’m a creature of habit”.
Kimberly suddenly gets very excited and starts frantically tapping my arm. “There is a guy at the bar checking you out”.
I roll my eyes, “Please, I’m sitting next to Mish. His eyes are probably wonky from too much wine”.
A waitress brings over a very expensive bottle of wine to our table. In her best customer service voice, she tells us, “Ladies, this is from the gentleman at the bar”.
Michelle looks over and blows him a kiss. He slowly starts to walk over. In an expensive, fitted three-piece suit, muscle physique, and emerald green eyes solely fixed on me.
Shit. A hunter from the Alpha King’s pack has found me.
Lewana POVThe kitchen is silent for several minutes until Willow speaks. "So, what are your options?". I don't reply and keep staring deep in thought. Conrad is the one to reply to her. "Basically, we need to decide if we euthanise him". All the men nod in agreement, but their heads snap to Kimberly's sharp, disbelieving tone. "You're going to kill him because he's vulnerable and confused".Connor tries to calm Kimberly. "If he were tried for his crimes, he would be tried for treason, among other things, and the sentence for that is death". Kimberly looked horrified. "Wouldn't he be found not guilty due to manipulation or insanity or something?". I speak up as I can tell none of them understands. "That's not the problem, Kimberly. I'm not sure any of you understand the main problem here". Everyone stops and turns to me with a look of confusion. I try to explain. "Does anyone know where the word Lunatic comes from?". Willow, of course, knows the answer. "Yeah. They noticed c
Lewana POVI eventually got some control back from Serena. I used that energy to walk us straight into the private living room. To say I was mortified at her declaring herself the ultimate bridezilla was an understatement. Once the door is closed, I lay into her. "What the hell were you thinking, declaring us a bridezilla?". I could feel Serena roll her eyes at me. "So what if I did? We are awesome, have won a battle against the shadows, marked by our mate, and been accepted as Luna Queen. We should get everything we want". "I couldn't agree more". I jump at the voice. Conrad followed us down from the kitchen and was watching Serena and I argue with an amused smirk on his face. I cover my face with my hands and groan, and he walks over, chuckling, and pulls me into a hug. He lifts my chin up to meet his eyes and stares deeply and lovingly into them. "Lewana, what is it you want?". I don't even need to think about it. "A small ceremony with just the pack. Having it as quick as
Liam POVThe rollercoaster on the night of the battle was intense. Exilerating that we won against Malik. Devastation when we lost Lewana and Conrad to the Shadows. Then the hours of fear we had to survive without them before the moon had a chance to bring them back. Every guardian wanted to help and protect them, so we divided into two teams. Sirens and Faes during the day. Phoenix's and Wolves at night. We moved them to the Moon Garden that Conrad has constructed. We figured this would protect them the most. We placed them on a bed we brought outside and monitored them closely. The Sirens cleaned both of them, and the Faes placed flowers around them while tending to the garden, and the Phoenixs lit flame torches around them so they wouldn't be in darkness. It was awful seeing them in this state. Every vein was now black as they rested peacefully, but we just hoped they could save each other. We all waited on the night the moon rose. Neck craned towards the sky, waiting for her t
Conrad POVTime works strangely here. I haven't seen the sun or the moon, but there is still a form of day and night. As I entered from the real world at dawn, and it is now night, I hope this corresponds to the real world and that we only have to survive the day before the moon rises. Serena's light seems to have stabilized. It's no longer flickering, but it is still very dim. At least it's there. Lewana is curled up in my lap and snuggled against my chest. I make sure she is as comfortable as possible as I hold her, determined to not only fight the shadows that threaten her but also keep them from giving her more nightmares. It doesn't feel like an entire night has passed when it starts to get light again, but I'm relieved when it does. I know I have to survive with our girls, but I know if the shadows need to kill us, then today might be their last chance. Lewana starts to stir slowly in my arms, and Serena stirs in Jace's. Thankfully, they are still connected. I wonder if that
Conrad POVAs soon as all the visions disappeared, I started to try and come up with a plan. Serena is made of moonlight, which explains why she glows. That might be why the shadows separated her from Lewana. If they needed to kill the light, they would be after her. Jace was getting anxious and started whimpering while pacing back and forth. I could tell he was trying to use the bond to reach her, but there was no response. I started pacing and running my hands through my hair, trying to focus. "Are you angry because I did something wrong?". I look down at Lewana's big blue eyes staring at me with tears starting to form. I can't afford for her to cry again. "No, sweetie. I'm not angry. I'm worried. Jace is worried. You're safe with me, but we don't know where Serena is. I'm worried she's in danger". She seemed to think hard for a while. Her child-like face scrunches as she thinks. Goddess, I hope my daughter takes after her. "Maybe she's hiding. Arthur used to call out my nickn
Conrad POVWe exit the front door to the pack house and are met with a violent storm. The rain is hammering down hard, and the wind is ice cold with such force it feels like it's cutting through my skin. I turn to go back inside, but it's now an empty doorway in the midst of the storm. I look down at the terrified child clutching my leg, and instincts take over. I pick her up and cradle her to my chest to keep her as shielded as possible. I call out. "Jace, lead us somewhere with some shelter. I protect her". "What if Serena is out here?". I can sense his fear, but I need him to focus. "Then we will find her, but there will be no point if Lewana dies from exposure in the process". The fear doesn't subside, but he knows I'm right. He calls back to me. "There are trees over there. That will be our best bet at the moment". We trapse through the cold for what seems like an hour as the trembling little girls hold onto me tight. By the time we get to the trees, she is nearly blue, so
