Rogue POV

It took me days to flee my old territory. The supposed Alpha King tracked me for 12 hours through the land before he called off the search. A few hunters tried to track me in the days after that, but I evaded them all.

Seeing my street come into view and the modest 4-bedroom house I called home come into view gave me hope that I had escaped that world again. I put my key in and turned it just glad to be back. “I’m Home”.

My room mate Kimberly is the first to great meet me. “Welcome back. How was the conference”.

“Uh, yeah it was good. Usual sort of Vet updates”. The humans I live with don’t even know werewolves exist, let alone that I’m a wolf. No way I can tell them where I was or what happened.

Michelle comes running up too me way to excited, “Well now that your back you need to get dressed up. We're going out to a wine bar tonight”.

I dramatically groaned. “No. Why”.

She just rolls her eyes, “Because I want to meet someone to have fun with and Kimberly is still looking for Mr husband material”.

I just laugh. “And what about Willow”.

“You know the only men she’s interested in are the ones in her books. Still more than you though”.

I’m the first ready and wait at the bottom of the stairs for my girls. Michelle comes down next in the shortest, tightest red dress she has ever made in matching 5-inch heels.

Michelle sees me and instantly rolls her eyes. “Why do you always dress like a bodyguard. Honestly how are you going to attract a man dressed like that”.

“A, who says I’m looking for one, and B, who is going to protect you from the ones who might actually try and eat you dressed like that”.

Her face lights up and she starts giggling. “I know, I look awesome right. Just need a man looking for a fun time tonight”. We look up the stairs as the other two girls make their grand entrance.

“Well hello commoners. Will you be escorting the ladies tonight on our outing’’, Willow calls out in a playful mocking tone.

Michelle just playfully snaps back. “You're just jealous I’m this hot and you’re not. Now hurry up we have a reserved booth”.

I wish I could be normal like them.

Walking into the dimly lit bar I check for exits and potential threats hiding in plain sight. I use my senses to check for other wolves. None. Since I know there is a threat, the coolness of my hidden blades against my skin always brings me reassurance as we walk towards our booth.

I’m stuck in my own thoughts, seeing those glowing golden eyes staring at me from the shadows and the word that makes by blood run cold replaying over and over in my head. “Mate”. Even now, I know he’s not here but it’s like I can sense eyes watching me.

“So, what about you girl. What’s new in your life”. I jolt out of my thoughts to see Michelle smiling at me.

“You know me, I never have anything interesting going on in my life. I treat people’s pets at the vet clinic. Make them better when I can and come home. I can tell you about a new surgery technique I’m researching as I want to improve my surgical capabilities. That and I’m planning my monthly camping trip for next week”.

“You really need to get a hobby or something”, Michelle groans why being dramatic.

I just laugh at her expression. “Hiking and camping is a hobby”.

“You do the same hike and go to the same place each time. How about just going somewhere new and exciting. Some were more beach-like with cocktails and cabana boys”.

I just shrug at her. “What can I say, I’m a creature of habit”.

Kimberly suddenly gets very excited and starts frantically tapping my arm. “There is a guy at the bar checking you out”.

I roll my eyes, “Please, I’m sitting next to Mish. His eyes are probably wonky from too much wine”.

A waitress brings over a very expensive bottle of wine to our table. In her best customer service voice, she tells us, “Ladies, this is from the gentleman at the bar”.

Michelle looks over and blows him a kiss. He slowly starts to walk over. In an expensive, fitted three-piece suit, muscle physique, and emerald green eyes solely fixed on me.

Shit. A hunter from the Alpha King’s pack has found me.

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 258

2 years, 2 months laterLewana POV "Audrey, will you stop wiggling? You need to have nice hair for Daddy's birthday party tonight". This traitorous little one instantly sits still at the mention of Conrad. She would do anything for him, but she seems to enjoy ignoring me. I got the last clip in when she hears the door open and takes off running while screaming. "DDDAAAA DDAAAA". Conrad picks her and spins her as she grips him tightly. "There's my little Princess. And how is my amazing Luna Queen doing?" I grumble. "Wondering if I should be referring to our little Princess as her Royal terror". He laughs at me. "You're just jealous I'm her favorite". I gasp and clutch my chest in shock, and he rolls his eyes. I love the fact that I could give her my mother's name, but at the same time, it feels wrong to tell her off. Conrad looks at his watch. "We'd better start heading down to the barn. The pack will be there waiting by now". I smile and head into the nursery that joins our

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 257

Conrad POV As soon as the words left the medic's mouth, my mind kicked in, and I knew what I had to do. I mind linked Liam first. "Liam. It's confirmed. Luna Queen is in labour. I need you to get every wolf who is not a pack member off this territory immediately. You can tell them why, and after everything that Lewana has been through, they should understand. Also, get extra patrols on the territory boundaries. No is to come near my land, let alone my mate". I can hear his urgency come through. "On it". I know my only other job for today is to keep my mate and pups safe. According to the medics, she needs to eat and rest for the first part so she has energy for the second part. For security reasons, we head back to the pack house and our room. The medical centre is to open as it is designed for easy access. The packhouse, with Murdock's help, has been turned into a fortress. As soon as we are in our room, I run a bath to help Lewana relax and ease any muscle aches. I sit with Lew

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 256

Lewana POV Yesterday really took it out of me. A wedding, a coronation, and a possession to top it off is making every inch of my body ache. The sun has barely breached the top of the trees, and I get out of bed, annoyed because I'm hungry and uncomfortable. I try to waddle as gracefully as I can away from the bed to not wake Conrad and head straight for the kitchen. As soon as I open the fridge, I spot leftover pasta and dig in. I slowly make my way to the private living room and make myself comfortable with my giant prize and dig in. I must have fallen back asleep in the chair at some point, as I woke with a kiss to the forehead. "Morning, my Luna Queen. When did you end up down here?" I open my eyes and smile at my mate. "Blame your pups. They decided breakfast started at 5am today". I start to get up, but struggle as my entire body feels like rubber bands stretching. I wince at sensation, and Conrad instantly panics. "You OK. You don't normally struggle this much in the mor

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 255

Conrad POV I watch as Lewana seems to fade from the event. At first, I thought she was just tired, but when she didn't respond to me, I knew something was wrong. I thought she was staring out at the crowd, but then realised her gaze was fixed solely on the moon. "Moonlight. Speak to me, Moonlight. What's wrong? You're scaring me". She didn't register my voice or my touch. She just kept staring. "Something is happening". As soon as the words left her lips, a force radiated from her stronger than any aura, sending me flying 6 feet onto my back. Her arms flew out wide as she started to glow as Serena does. The crowd started screaming and whimpering as they ducked for cover. As soon as the force started to subside, I opened my eyes and slowly reached out for my mate. She turned and looked at me with glowing eyes and spoke in an echoing, soothing voice that was not her own. "My son, I'm so proud of you". It took me a second to realise I recognized the voice before I spoke with a sh

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 254

Lewana POV As soon as the wedding ceremony is over, we all head into the barn for the reception. Most of the people here are humans, as the pack will participate in the following coronation ceremony more. We do all the usual stuff I have seen before. Have a meal, cut the cake, and dance. I stay by Conrad's side most of the night, but I am looked after by the bridesmaids very well. They whisk me away to rest when needed, made sure I ate, and that I wasn't on my feet for too long. The main benefit of being extremely pregnant and having a serious scare a while ago is that when the night was called at 9:30, no one batted an eyelid. As all the humans pack up and leave, Conrad and I retreat to the side room to get ready for the next ceremony. The coronation. As soon as the door shuts, he guides me over to the seat. "How are you holding up, Moonlight? I know it's a big day for you". I look down at my belly and rub it gently. "I'm good. We're all good. Today has been amazing. I'm sorry

  • Balance of Light and Shadow   Chapter 253

Lewana POV Just as Mary had promised, all the girls came to my room to have lunch with me. They insisted I stay in bed while I eat so I can have as much rest as possible. It's going to be a big night. We all spend a few hours gossiping while my hair and make-up are professionally done by trained omegas. All the girls are loving the pampering as well. Willow seems lost in thought when she finally speaks up. "Do you know it has almost been a year?" Kimberly looked at her, confused. "What do you mean?" Willow smiles. "A year since Connor found us in that wine bar". The thoughtful silence stilled the room. Even the omegas paused. A lot had changed. Michelle starts giggling as I know she is uncomfortable with silences. "And you thought we would be in danger, and that we shouldn't visit the pack". I raise my eyebrows at her. "So we're just going to skim over all the kidnapping, attacks, a war, and nearly dying several times". She waves a hand at me. "The point is, we made it. We al
