CHAPTER TWO

“Hi, I am Aleister and I will be playing the role of Peter. Nice to meet you all, hoping we could all work in unity. Thank you,” said by the famous actor Aleister who is currently at a script reading of his new movie project.

“Hi! I’m Mallory! I’m playing the role of Stephanie, hoping to work well with all of you!” Mallory, the lead actress, cheerfully said. Aleister didn’t even glance at her.

The script reading lasted for almost three hours. After it ended Aleister, together with his manager, proceed to the parking lot a preparing to leave when suddenly Mallory blocked his way. Aleister told his manager to enter the car first.

“It’s been a while,” she said.

“Yeah, it’s not good to see you.”

“I didn’t expect you to accept this project.”

“Well, I had this feeling that after the project all of the staffs and cast would magically disappear or turn into a vampire so I’m here to stop that tragic ending.”

“Superior vampires would always get on my way, huh?”

“Well, yeah, probably, that is why I’m here.”

The atmosphere became heavy. Suddenly, it felt like dark clouds will start forming soon and create a storm. It became dark as the two vampires faced each other. The atmosphere became heavier and heavier as the two of them continue to glare at each other.

“I’m keeping an eye on you, just so you know. Every human in this project will come out as one piece, and I guarantee you that.”

“I also guarantee you, that even you, the future leader of superior vampires, won’t come out alive in one piece.” Mallory left and Aleister watched her enter her car before he entered his.

Aleister is a five-hundred-year-old superior vampire or also known as good vampires. They are the kinds of vampires who only consume animal blood and meat. They are also known as the protectors of the human beings from immortal creatures. He is the son of the current superior vampire leader which means that he will soon be the leader.

If Aleister is a superior vampire, Mallory is the opposite. She is an inferior vampire, and her kinds consume human blood. They are also known as the bad vampires. They kill humans to consume their blood and to survive. Mallory is the leader of the inferior vampires.

It’s been generations since superior and inferior vampires became enemies. They never became allies as the two groups has different beliefs and goals. Like what Aleister mentioned earlier, he only accepted the project to protect the mortal casts and crews. He was informed that Mallory will use the project to infect mortals to become immortals and grow the number of inferior vampires.

Aleistar’s car is currently on the road and heading towards his company office when the car suddenly stopped.

“What happened?” he asked the driver.

“It looks like that one of the tires got flat.”

“Seriously?! Now? I have a meeting in ten minutes.”

“Sir, the company is already near from here. We could walk if you like.”

“You want me to walk? What if people recognize me and start a commotion? I don’t want to be held reliable.”

“Why don’t you wear a wig?”

“What? No way!”

“Okay, then just be late and listen to your mother’s long lectures.” Aleister sighed as he hears what his manager said. He ended up wearing a wig and a mask before stepping out his car to walk to their office.

“Why is it so hot?!”

“Why does my mother keep on asking me for money? Do I look like a bank?!”

“I know he’s cheating but I still love him.”

“They keep on asking as to do extra works when they don’t even give us extra pay or bonus!”

“Yes! I finally have a job! I’ll buy some of my daughter’s favorite food to celebrate.”

These are the only few thoughts that Aleister hears from the people walking by the streets. Aleister just shook her head as he ignores most of what he hears. He has a super hearing which is common for vampires but he also has a mind reading ability.

“For goodness gracious mom! Just let me bring you to the hospital for your check-up! I am working hard so I could pay for your medical expenses but you are being stubborn!”

“I’ve told you multiple times already, I don’t want to go to the doctor because it’s too expensive! Just save your hard-earned money for your future. I am already old, spending money for my healthcare is just a waste! My death will come soon no matter what we do.”

“Mom! Money or any wealth is useless if I won’t spend it for you! Please, don’t be stubborn and just get treated! Do it for me at least.”

“I said I don’t want to! How can you shout at your mother in this crowded place? Aren’t you ashamed?”

“Because you are so stubborn! I told you to just get treated!”

This is the conversation of a mother and daughter on the sidewalk not so far away from Aleister. They are also approaching their direction.

“My dear daughter, my only mission in this world is to raise you properly and give you a comfortable life. Now that I have achieved my mission and now that you are successful, I am already useless. Its time for me to leave. I would just waste your money, because the last page of my book of life has arrived.”

These words are what Aleister heard from the mind of the mother. Few moments later, the old woman held her left chest and collapsed on the ground.

“Mom? What’s happening? MOM! HELP! HELP, PLEASE HELP US!” shouted by the daughter who is kneeling on the floor while holding her mother.

Aleister was looking at their direction and didn’t notice a woman running towards his way. He and the woman bumped each other which made them fall on the ground. The manager of Aleister assisted him to stand up while the woman didn’t bother to say sorry and ran away.

“Aleister are you okay?” asked by his manager.

“Damn, she didn’t even say sorry—“ He stopped midway his sentence when his vampire instincts were alerted. It is a sign that there is a werewolf within a radar but he sensed something wrong and different.

“Is that Aleister?”

“Omg! It’s him!”

“Aleister I’m a fan!”

He was suddenly alerted when he heard female voices shouting. It turns out the when he bumped on the woman earlier, his wig fell off and he didn’t even notice it. His manager pulled him and both of them hurriedly ran to escape from the group of fans. Aleister wanted to stop and look for the scent but he couldn’t as the fans are chasing him.

On the other hand, Madison, who bumped with Aleister earlier, is currently examining the old lady who collapsed.

“M-Miss, what’s wrong with my mother? H-Help her please,” said by the crying daughter.

“Don’t worry I am a doctor. Call an ambulance! Faster!”

It didn’t take long for the ambulance to arrive. They hurriedly transferred the old lady to a stretcher and boarded her inside the ambulance. The daughter and Madison also came with them. Shortly they arrived at the hospital.

Madison was on the top of the old lady continuing the CPR while the wheeled stretcher is being pushed, entering the emergency room. Madison went off the stretcher after arriving inside the emergency room.

“Heart attack patient. Age, sixty-five years old, get ready for defibrillation.” The nurse prepares the equipment for the electric shot or defibrillation. Madison was about to do the procedure when the head nurse suddenly came rushing to her.

“Doc Suarez! The patients have records in the hospital. She signed for a DNR order.” Madison was stunned and slowly put her hands away from the patient.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING! SAVE MY MOTHER!”

“We...we can’t...we can’t do anything, I’m sorry.”

“What do you mean you can’t do anything? You are a doctor! SAVE MY MOTHER!”

“Your mother... she signed a DNR order which stands for do-not-resuscitate order. It means that the patient wishes not undergo CPR or defibrillation. We could only do that if the patient herself would allow us, however when have to follow the DNR order. I’m sorry.”

The daughter’s knees felt weak and she fell down on the hospital floor. She kept on crying and a nurse assisted her to stand up.

The mother suddenly gains consciousness which gained the attention of the daughter.

“Mom, please let them treat and save you. Please mom...” The daughter pleads her mom as she continues to cry.

“I’m sorry...m-my child. My mission h-has come to an end. It’s time...for me to rest and sleep infinitely. Build your own family and be happy. I’ll continue to guide you from above. It’s time for me to meet your father a-again.”

“MOM! S-stop talking like that! Y-You can’t leave me...no, please.”

“I’m s-sorry for all my lacking a-as a m-mother. I am satisfied to see you g-grow into a fine young woman who has a heart for everyone. I-I don’t want to suffer at the last moment of my life, t-that is why I signed a DNR order. Does CPR hurts. I want to leave with no pain and comfortably. My own book has ended, you still have many chapters to write.”

“Mom! P-Please...” The daughter continued to cry as she holds her mother’s hand.

“I love you, m-my angel and t-thank you.” These are her last words before taking he final breath.

“MOM! NO! NO!” The daughter yelled and cried. It can be heard all around the emergency room. With a heavy heart, Madison looked at the clock and prepared to announce the time of death.

“Time of death, four-thirty in the afternoon. October twenty-fourth of two thousand and twenty-one.”

All the nurses and doctors took a moment of silence to pay respect. Only the loud sobs of the daughter can be heard. Madison assisted the daughter and she made her sit on a chair.

“I-I fought with her earlier because she didn’t want to have a check-up. T-Today is her s-scheduled check-up but she wanted to go to the park instead. I insisted on her going here for the check-up but s-she kept on resisting that’s why I got mad. I-If I only knew that it would be her last moments, I w-would have walked her in the park. I should have let her do what she wants and did not fight with her,” said by the daughter you kept on crying. Madison taps her back and tries to comfort her.

“Her last wish, was to spend time with you. She didn’t want to be a burden to her daughter. I never had a mother so I don’t know how they act, but all I could see is the eagerness of your mother to rest. She wants to rest and at the same time, she wants you to rest. Her job as a mother is finished, all you could do is live your life to the fullest, in that way, she would completely fulfill her mission as a mother. She’s done, now it’s your turn to complete your mission in life.”

They stayed silent for a moment before Madison left and went to the nurse station. She saw a intern doctor crying.

“Why is he crying?” asked by Madison to the nurses.

“He’s an intern and he already saw two death case today. He got emotional because of them.”

Madison called the intern and faced him.

“Even if you cry all day, you won’t be able to bring back their lives. You are a doctor and your job is to treat patients not to cry.”

“Because it’s so unfair! Why do they have to die?”

“Death is inevitable. Even if you try to escape death, it will still come to you one day. We could delay it, and that’s our job as doctors but we could never stop it from happening. We will reach the point where we will die, you could die first or it could be. Who knows?”

“It’s still unfair! Earlier, a kid died because a snake in the zoo escaped and bit him. They just went there to have fun but why does it have to end like that?”

“The child died because of the snake’s venom. We are not superhero nor Gods to retrieve the people from the dead. Our job also depends on our patient. If they have a chance and wants to live, we save them. We’ll do our best to keep them alive. However, if the patient doesn’t want to live, we have no rights to argue with them. We could only advise the best options, but the last decision is theirs. It is their life after all, and our job is to make patients comfortable by whatever means, either treat and discharge them or let them rest internally. It depends on them, but it also depends on the supreme being above the skies.”

The intern stopped crying and it got silent for a while.

“Wait, who are you again? What department do you belong to?” asked by Madison to the intern doctor.

“Madi, he’s a general surgeon intern,” answered by one of the nurses. Madison’s eyes widened in disbelief. She wanted to shout but stopped herself as the whole emergency room would hear her.

“OMG! OMG! Seriously?! It’s not a joke, right?! FINALLY!! OH MY GOSH!!!” Madison happily jumped and ended up hugging the intern. The intern looked so confused and did not move. Madison pulled out from the hug and happily faced the intern. “What’s your name? What grade level?”

“I’m Josh Dizon and I’m a fourth-year student.”

“Finally! I waited for so long to have a GS intern!” Madison said with all smiles. The intern is still confused and he looked at one of the nurses.

“It’s a big hospital but there are only few general surgeons. That’s why...be ready for a pile of work. Good luck!” said by the nurse.

“Wait, isn’t it your day off doctor Suarez?” asked by another nurse to Madison. Madison’s expression suddenly changed after hearing the question.

“Right, it’s my day off. What am I doing here? I don’t know.” Madison faced the intern and puts both of her hands on his shoulders. “Day off doesn’t really exist to us. I’m saying this in advance. Even if you are riding a six stars cruise ship, if someone collapsed you have to remove your sunglasses and put down that fancy wine and conduct a CPR.”

The other nurses softly laughed. Madison faced them and reached for her bag.

“I’ll go now before I totally forget that it’s my day off today. I hope you won’t call me because my day off is already ruined. I’ll go now before I totally lose it.”

Madison left the hospital and decided to go to the mall first before going home.
