Amanda changed her shoes before answering the phone.

“Hello?”

“Madam, it’s Lydia.” Her tone was calm as ever, betraying nothing.

Amanda walked slowly inside, her voice cool. “What is it?”

From her voice, Lydia couldn’t detect even a hint of anger. That puzzled her. Wasn’t Madam upset? Not even furious? Could it be that she’d misunderstood—that there really was no feeling between them?

Lydia spoke apologetically, “I’m sorry, Madam. I don’t know why people on the internet are saying such things. Once I recover, I’ll leave Jadeview Park Residence. Forgive me for the misunderstanding between you and Benjamin. But he worried no one would take care of me, so he asked me to stay here. Madam, you still haven’t come home… are you angry?”

At those words, Amanda almost laughed. That tone—it was dripping with green tea sweetness.

She “hadn’t gone home”? As if she didn’t know? Clearly, this call wasn’t for an apology at all, but to deliberately tell her: I’m staying at Jadeview Park Residence now.

Patrick and I… we ended a long time ago.”Amanda looked at her for a long moment, saying nothing.“Claire, you two talk. I’ll head back and rest,” she said, exhaustion tugging at her. This w

Amanda stared at him, startled by his blank look. Worry crept into her voice. “Did that fever fry your brain?”Patrick: “…” Am I stupid now? No—he just couldn’t remember what had happened.Still uneasy, she pressed her fingers against his pulse. It was steady. Normal.“You’re fine.” Her gaze deepened. “Do you remember what happened last night?”Instead of answering, Patrick rolled onto his side, eyes glinting with mischief. “Why sleep slumped by the bed when you could’ve been in it with me? Much more comfortable.”Amanda: “…” Her face chilled instantly.Sensing her anger, Patrick quickly backpedaled, flashing a sheepish grin. “I’m kidding. Thank you, Amanda.”She’d come when he needed her most. Maybe that erased the debt between them now.Once reassured he wasn’t in danger, she pressed, “Do you remember being stuffed into the cold storage yesterday?”He shook his head, then told her what he did recall.“You smelled flowers?” she echoed.“Yeah. Benjamin thought of how Lydia had taken a knife for him. The wound wasn’t too serious.“She’s fine. The target was me, but I wasn’t in the car when they struck. Lydia got hurt instead. She’s already home,” he explained.Amanda let out a quiet “Oh,” her eyes narrowing. “If they were after you, why would they act without making sure you were inside the car?” Her sharp mind was already forming suspicions.Benjamin shook his head. “I don’t know. By the time I got there, the accident had already happened.”Amanda frowned, thoughtful. “So this is the ‘coincidence’ you mentioned? But what does Patrick’s incident have to do with you?”She couldn’t see the link. Unless… both of them were being lured out?“Maybe I’m just overthinking,” Benjamin muttered.Curiosity sparkled in her gaze. “What, do you have treasure hidden in that house of yours? Were they trying to lure us away so they could dig it out?”“…” Benjamin gave her a flat look. Her imagination really had no limits.Amanda chuckled, adm

His skin had regained warmth—no longer icy like before. His cracked lips were redder now, color returning.“You’re awake?” Patrick leaned weakly against the edge of the tub, eyes hazy as he looked at the anxious girl before him. A faint smile tugged at his lips.“Amanda, were you… worried for me?”In his final moments, he had seen her smile—strong and determined.“Patrick, come here,” she had seemed to say. He’d reached for her hand, and then opened his eyes, only to realize it had been a dream.Amanda pressed her palm against his forehead—hot. Fever. Exactly what she had feared.“Patrick, you’ll be fine now. Don’t worry. I won’t let you suffer,” she murmured, steadying her own panic. The decoction finished simmering. She carefully poured the steaming medicine into the tub.“Patrick, sit still, all right?” she coaxed softly.Patrick grimaced, shaking his head. Her tender voi
